I have had some luminance pencils and one of them was soooo scratchy, it seemed like there was something in the lead. So I emailed the company i bought it from and they sent out a replacement. The new one was sooooo much better! So I recon it was a bad batch that I got with the first one.

I have the whole set of Luminance and I find quite a few of them to be scratchy. I mostly use them for skin tones. I LOVE my Polychromos!

Oh really?! You should share your “scratchy list” - would be good to know! 😅 It’s so interesting about how everyone prefers a specific brand of pencils. When I first started using coloured pencils, Polychromos were my first ones and I really couldn’t tell the difference, now having tried most of the other artist grade coloured pencils I feel the texture immediately as it touches the paper. The pencils just glides differently when it is oil or wax based, but even there is difference amongst wax and oil pencils. Fascinating! 😁

All my full set polycromos are amaaaaazing! Best for me, but I buy luminance 76 before 3days soo I need test them better.

Hi Alyona! Your swatches are so beautiful you should make prints or cards of them! I have all the colours (complete sets) of Luminance, Pablos, Lightfast and Polychromos. Both Luminance and Lightfast have some colours that might be scratchy but sometimes is a batch because I have ordered new ones of the scratchy colours and they were not scratchy at all. For example, I have 3 Luminance Burnt Sienna 10% and all three are creamy. Same with the Burnt Ochre 10%. The only really scratchy Luminance I have is a dark brown I can’t remember the name now. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is all a bit of a mystery with Luminance. 😅 But they are fantastic when you get the good one! 🧡

I have to say all my luminance are soft and creamy but I have some gritty and scratchy derwent lightfast which put me off too. 😅

did you try another sepia 10%, mine is not scratchy

Such a beautiful group of pencils 😍 Question, how easy are they to lay down? I have developed arthritis in my wrist and hand and am drooling over these pencils, not sure about making the investment. Would I get solid coverage using a light hand, or would I have to press hard? Thx Alyona x

I find that you have to press a bit to get full coverage, I haven’t noticed pain in my wrists or fingers. I don’t have arthritis but when I pencil is really hard I do feel it. However, I found the softest to be the Derwent Drawing pencils, they are like butter. But there is colour limitation of only 24 in this line. :)

@@AlyonasWatercolourCreations Thank you for your reply, Alyona. I have my eyes on the portrait set, but perhaps it might be a better idea to invest in a couple of them and give them a go. I have the 12 set of the Derwent drawing pencils and will be picking up the missing ones individually, they are beautiful! X
