Caran D'ache Pablo pencils REVIEW *ARE THEY WORTH THE PRICETAG?*

I love my pablos. I got the full set a few months ago, when my husband asked if he could get a motorcycle. I said "Sure but one, i get to up your life insurance policy and two i get a full set of pencils ive been wanting". I knew he was gona get the bike either way, so i figured , im no fool. Ill get something out of it too, make him think he won. Lol

I love my Pablos. I will sometimes simply "have them out" to simply brighten the day. They are so great.

Thank you so much for this review!! I love seeing colored pencils, how they look on paper, and all they can do. I have been interested in certain brands, especially Carand'ache, and Derwent. And I have never seen a review of these pencils before, thank you! Very useful review!🥰

The pablos are a fully wax pencil, it is specified in the new red boxes. That is why they blend better and are more opaque than the polys :) they are just a firm core wax pencil

They are not fully wax. All colored pencils are a blend of wax and oil. It just depends on the ratio of wax to oil. This information is coming directly from Caran D'ache and other CP manufacturers. It's been a long-held misconception that a CP is either wax OR oil. That's not the case for any colored pencils.

The luminance are too soft for me and the barrel too thick. However the polychromos needs sooo many layers for realism. I know that supposed to be a good thing, but for my chronic pain in mijn hands it isn’t. Could the pablo be a good mix of those two?

Excellent comments! Most people talk about the Luminescents and so I was wondering what the differences were. Lovely ... so they glaze beautifully and only 7 with one star but some with dull pigmentation! I think you gave a lot of impartial comments that others haven't. Thank you so much! 🥰 Cheryl

I have a couple of Luminance and a couple of Pablo and I prefer the Pablo. The Luminance I have seem to me a bit scratchy. I could be doing all wrong or on the wrong paper. When alls said and done I still prefer Prismacolor and they seem to have fixed the breakage problem.

I have the full set of luminance, and have 3 pencils that are scratchy too - sadly. However I purchased some of the shades again and contacted customer service, as they are not supposed to be gritty and scratchy and got a refund for the 3 pencils 😊 I've never really liked prismacolor. I bought a set a few years ago, and really wanted to like them. I ended up creating 3 full drawing with them, before donating them - so I feel like I've given them a good shot 😅 I wish I liked working with them though, I've seen some amazing pieces created with them! And I'm really happy to hear they have fixed their quality control issues, as that was one of the things I really disliked about the pencils. Just like it is with everything - you need to find what suits you and your art style 😊😃

I know what you mean. I can’t put my finger on it, but somehow they don’t really work for me. I have a set Luminance but now I only use the black and white one when I’m drawing with polychromos. 😅

Thank you for the review, not sure why you'd need 120 pencils, of any brand (a lot of them look basically the same color). I know of many people who get the 100+ sets and 40% of them go basically unused. I have the 80 set of Pablos, and Supracolors, they are indeed wonderful, and more than enough.

Why do so many Pablo pencils have faulty engravement? My set has many as well. I saw many in your video, too! The "Pablo" name sometimes divided into two parts, a letter "P" and "Pablo" separatly. They work just as good, though. Just a minor detail.

Hi I am curious to what you where using on the paint brush to blend as I'm aware these are water resistant, what kind of solvent?

Hi :) I used Mone Lisa Odorless paint thinner. Mineral spirits helps to melt the pigment and blend it into the paper.

They are not oil based, there is a miss conception, I just saw a long review on Amazon that explains,but actually the top person at Caran D’ash never produced any of their colored pencils with oil. It is some kind of mixture of wax and oil,but it’s produced like no other colored pencils.

I see more two stars than three stars in the lightfast rating on these pencils in the sets. Polychromos is all three star in my 36 set with only one being a two star. I have their Supracolour watercolor pencils and most are 2 star in my set. You can get more three stars in a set of cheap Prismacolors. But I still want a set!!! LOL! I must be crazy.
