off leash dog on a kids playground? No go man. Theres SO many kids that are scared of dogs! Like not even because of negative experience but because its a big or weird lookin guy runnin at them! The way to help kids be not afraid of dogs is NOT having an off leash dog running at them full speed!

H's shock about pancakes for dinner means clearly he needs to be introduced to the concept of pancake day

Pancake day is the exception to the rule, I feel H is still right about this 1, what pancake would you even eat for dinner that'd still be filling? Also on pancake day you'd have few pancakes, but they're not enough for a meal alone

The rule of thumb is, if it has human food, especially if it is open and unpackaged or being prepared in the same space that you are in, then you can't bring a non-service animal in. It's common sense. Either roll all the windows down in your car (as someone who has sat in a car waiting for people to come back out of a store, windows fully rolled down but in the sun is basically the same as being in the shade because of the air flow), or come back on another day without your pet. But also, if there is something that someone is doing in a store that you don't like, inform a staff member. It's not your business to get involved and try to enforce your own opinions or rules into a space that you don't control. If the staff don't care enough to interfere, that's their decision. It's their space. Don't be a Karen.

With the pets in cars thing, you definitely do need to have your car on and the air running (yes there are security problems, but that is the only way to ensure your dog's safety. Otherwise just leave your pet at home) and yeah I agree, if someone else's dog is in the store then you can't say anything especially since you don't know if it is a service animal or not, or if it's in training and has permission

Yeah, it’s a very nuanced situation, and I get it from both sides- one one hand, you leave your pet in the car with AC running and all that, but even 10 minutes is enough for someone to come up and steal the car, also if you didn’t roll the windows down enough, you could potentially accidentally lock the car from the inside, so it’s fair to not want to leave your car and pet behind with that risk. On the other hand, pets are generally not allowed in grocery stores, with few exceptions like service animals and ones in very contained spaces (dog carriers, strollers, etc), and pet rules are in place for a reason especially an environment with relatively open access to food and stuff that can get contaminated by pets, however, I think some exceptions can be made for people by themselves with a pet for quick trips, since days get hot and people don’t always wanna take risks with their pets in the car, plus if they’re on a leash it helps a lot already. I say it’s more troublesome when someone brings an unleashed pet, or they have more than one person with them meaning they could have easily left them with the car and pet

I took my foster dog to garage sales on a nice day to work on his exposure to things, and even though the garage sales are outside, I asked every location if it was okay for me to bring the dog on their property. It just seems like the respectable thing to do. I couldn't imagine just assuming my dog is allowed in to any/all public places that don't specifically say no pets.

I'm not sure about cats, but you can bring your dog to Starbucks. They even have a Puppuccino for them. My pit, Hae Soo, loves them. And the employees love when people bring their dogs.

Idk about your specific starbucks, but mine has said that they don't want non-service-animal dogs in the store. Drivethrough is fine, just don't bring them in. Thankfully, there's a lightpost right by the side door that I can tie my dog to on the occasion that we walk

With the part about bringing dogs/pets into stores is that it can cause issues for anyone with a service animal and puts there dog at risk of being told that their service dog doesn't "look like a service dog" and not being aloud in the store because of one person who wanted to bring their pet in the store ibhave had my service dog attacked in target once because someone couldn't leave their dog in a car for there "short visit" into the store

As a disabled woman who needs a service dog I cringe when people bring pets into places they aren’t allowed. When I worked at the store I had a woman put their dog on the belt

Michael's allows dog and I trained my dog in there when he was younger, but the SECOND he even reacted negatively to someone I left with him. I never let him bark at anyone or get in their way (he was short leashed) and I also asked the workers at my specific location if it was okay

14:04 I have a friend who got scared and very nearly attacked by a dog when they were really young, even if it's not as bad today they still stay away from dogs if they can. So yeah, there are a ton of ways people can end up afraid of dogs.

My sister and i once put our small dog in a baby swing on a play ground, we were the only ones at the playground to. And he was really cute, but it was obvious he wasn’t enjoying all of it. He does this weird thing too, when you hold him over water he starts to doggy paddle slowly, and apparently the playground was made out of Blue material and he thought it was water. He didn’t like the slides though.

I have taken my dog to a children's park before because the one in my community is not open, but only because it is a very small park, and I have a very small dog. and to clarify, I only take her when there are no children because I understand that many kids and adults are afraid of dogs.

about the first one. as a person who works in customer service, we are only allowed to ask if its a service animal. if people lie, what are we supposed to do about that?

just saying as someone whos educated themselves on like service animals: please dont bring your dogs into stores!! its dangerous not only for your dog but other dogs as well no matter how friendly 1. its a danger to service animals, if that dog gets attacked it puts the handlers life at risk not only that but your dog could pass a really deadly disease if not properly vaccinated!! 2. its unhygienic, esp for people with dog allergies but i used to work at target and ive had dogs almost bite me, not only that but dogs peeing in the isles. i love seeing them dont get me wrong but theres a right place and time

I've definitely brought my dogs to a kid's park multiple times before and let them play on everything there. But, maybe I'm just nice or maybe it's just my social anxiety, whenever anyone else is there or shows up while I'm there I leave.

i work retail and people bring there dogs and cats in all the time, we don’t really have a pet policy so usually i just welcome them in and call it a day but one time this persons dog barked at me, the person apologized for their dog and i reassured them it’s fine and that i don’t have a fear of dogs and was just caught off guard, yet that thing definitely would have bite me if i didn’t back away💀

For the first story it is called a service dog and unless they are a service dog you should not bring them anywhere other than pet stores and go parks

my family took my puppy into a trader joes once and we were mostly done shopping when someone told us to get him out, he was a little guy sitting in the cart like a toddler, so I, at the time around 11 or 12, had to stand outside holding him while my mom and little brother got finished up, looking back a bit confused why she didnt have me go back to the car but yeah, no pets in trader joes

I don't understand the 'oh, this is a breakfast food, this is a lunch food, and this is a dinner food' I just don't understand that. I have whatever I want whenever I want. Can someone please explain why different foods have specific times, it just doesn't make sense to me.

I hate people who bring their animals into places thinking that they’re gods gift to us all, completely untrained. Taking no account of people who may be allergic, have fears, or have service animals of their own that your untrained animal could be distracting. If a service animal-for example, dog that is used as a medical device- is distracted and misses a cue, their owner could die. Leave your animals at home, people.

I have a big 100 pound bulldog and he's aggressive towards other dogs, willing to fight a dog for getting too close and such, and one of my biggest fears just walking him around my neighborhood is coming across an off-leashed dog and it approaching my dog and getting attacked, or worse, it attacking my dog and then I get in trouble because my dog defended itself and happened to be the bigger dog. Always keep your pets on a leash, its the law for the most part.

For bringing dog to grocery store, in a situation like that, i bring my dog in- BUT he’s in a bag locked up against me. I wouldnt let him walk around on the ground to sniff everything. Also difference between shedding/nonshedding dogs. If your dog sheds… keep them home for other allergy purposes.

I swear my cat Boo-boo I thought she had separation anxiety, but I’ve left her with my parents and she’s fine. She just freaks out when I’m in the other room. I have to pick her up and bring her with me or else she’ll just sit in that other room and cry. And she’s destructive, she destroys paper and stomps on buttons on my printer. Recently I’ve found out that when she does that, it’s because she’s hungry or thirsty and even though I leave the door to the kitchen and my room open, she won’t go eat unless I bring her there. What is wrong with her? She didn’t use to be that way, it’s gotten worse and worse over the years. She’s 8 years old now, but when I got her she was a kitten and didn’t have that problem. That’s why I thought she had anxiety because she sleeps next to my head all night and follows me everywhere I go, but when I leave the house, like I said she’s fine. I… cats are confusing. Meanwhile her brother will sleep 24 hours a day. I have to pick him up and take him to the food or else he won’t eat. So weird

Im surprised this isn't common knowledge but pets aren't allowed anywhere they serve or sell food. (this is a US health code law, and can cause huge issues for an establishment if broken) Target, Ikea, grocery stores, restaurants; only service animals who are trained to assist a disabled person are allowed in these establishments when its a reasonable accommodation. All other private establishments get to make whatever rules they want. It's a health and safety thing and often it's for the best for the animal, some of these places, like the gym, can be scary where they can act out or get hurt. That first story, I've heard some gyms allows dogs, but id just be worried for the dogs safety.

Unless its a service animal its not allowed. But ppl bring their pets in stores and grocery stores anyways when they arent service animals. Ppl just too spoiled. I think me and mom brought our cat in once to walmart but we just left the vet and needed something for our cat i think. Otherwise we would never do that and you cant leave them in the car. I think the biggest no no is ppl that bring their pets in store without leashes and they attack or disturb real service dogs thats the thing that bothers me the most. But only bring ur animal in a store if its unavoidable. If ur leaving the house for the store leave ur animal at home its that simple.

In my opinion, anyone that tries to exclude people from public parks on the grounds that "there's playground equipment there, so the park is now JUST for kids" is the AH. Public parks are public spaces and members of the public should be allowed to use it.
