I bought me and my son both Old Town peddle kayaks 2 years ago and we love them. Can get on lakes with motor restrictions and low pressure. I carry tons of tackle and 6 rods with a pvc rod rack I built. Its comfortable for 8 hours of fishing, super quiet and when done I throw them in the back of the truck and go home. We enjoy them more than the Triton I used to have. No maintenance, no insurance and cheaper.

Please do! I love seeing the pros fish out of a yak. It's more relatable to a lot of us.

I've been a "kayak angler" since 2018. It seemed like a natural thing to do since I've owned my own boats since 1985. Caught my first trout at age 3 way back in 1966 !

Great tips Gene! I love kayak fishing. I remove the chance to accidentally catch a rod sticking up behind me with my cast by keeping it simple. I just take one fishing rod with me and a spare baitcasting reel if I have a bad backlash. That way I never have to worry about my casting angles.

Mr. Evers, I want to start with saying how much I enjoy watch your tournaments with the MLF. Also, I learn alot every time I watch your youtube channel. The reason I messaged you is that this spring I am planning a trip up to Norman, OK with my 4 year old son. I want to do some fishing while we are up there and I am formally extending you and invitation to join us for fishing if your schedule allows. I am a veteran of the armed forces and I do not normally mention this but would very much enjoy getting the opportunity to wet a line with you this spring.

Good info. I’ve had three kayaks and enjoyed fishing that way. One quick comment about the lower seat position, if for some reason you have to paddle a long ways (trolling motor goes out) you will find it’s easier in the lower position.

I fish out of a kayak alwAys. It’s become my favorite way to fish especially with a group of friends you can fish together and not be fighting for the front of the boat. You and your son should have a blast.

Welcome to a world of kayaking. To help get in after you fall out in water have a rope with a loop and pvc pipe in the loop for a foot step come over the kayak top side and toy of to the handle the step will be on the other sid you are on place foot in the step and get in the kayak it will take some practice but it will help

Couldn’t agree more, like Gene said don’t put too many accessories at one time. Learn where you like something before you mount it permanently. Tulsa Kayak or OKC Kayak can probably help you with mounting electronics or whatever and they are great people!

Edwin great video. In my opinion people are putting too much on their kayaks. I feel it's nice to keep things simple maybe just a fish locator like a helix 5. Get yourself also a lighter weight paddle kayak too where you can just throw it in back of your pickup and go fishing with minimal tackle and rods on a smaller lake or area of water, it's a nice way relaxing style of fishing. Just make sure you have a comfortable seat.

@aarongreenlee78673 жыл бұрын
Edwin, first- congratulations on making the leap to kayak bass fishing! Second, one thing that Gene did not touch on directly, but weight is your main enemy. It may or may not seem obvious, but it is easy to overlook until its time to load or unload it. My set up is probably pushing 160-175lbs and she is a beast on dry land, but get her in the water and I am a happy fish hunting man!

I would think using a heavy action rod fishing out of a kayak would cause me to lose more fish. The reason I say this is because the rod needs to stay loaded correct? If so then its alot easier to keep medium heavy rod loaded vs heavy in a kayak fishing situation in my opinion. Am I wrong? I find it hard to keep frog fish pinned when kayak fishing.....not fun.
@barrywarren42213 жыл бұрын
Really nice Kayak, one like that I might be able to handle. The smaller one's are too flimsy for me. I like my 14ft alum. boat plenty of room for everything.

If you take a rope with a loop with a pub pipe to place your foot in have it toyed of on the other side to help you get in . There is a guy that you can watch on you tube Calle kayak hacks it is a great tool

Try not putting all that crap you have in your boat in a kayak and hone your fishing skills. Connect to the water and get back to basics.
