I've noticed over and over again that when it comes to race, sex, ethnicity, etc., there's a master narrative of what you're supposed to be to claim that distinction. Example: you can't be gay and a republican, black and like heavy metal, Latino and oppose illegal immigration, etc. Like here's your box, now get in your box and stay there. At best that's mental laziness and at worst it's a control mechanism.
