Was never a fan of the DS when I had it. I tried putting 3DS last night but Citra is dead. Didn’t bother afterwards. No PS3 as I hear they usually don’t launch at all unlike on the ROG Ally and Legion Go. No need to include Wii U because the Switch already has the best ports from it. I have a few doubles of the same game. Like I have NBA Street Vol. 2 for both GameCube and Xbox. The Xbox version is the one I owned. It’s the best-looking one and it loads faster during the intro. But I kept the GameCube version because Dolphin is the more mature emulator and it’s more battery efficient than Xemu. I also have the SNES and MAME version of Mortal Kombat II. The SNES port is the one I owned and mastered playing. OG Xbox is an interesting console to emulate. It was the most powerful of the 6th generation with graphics still holding up 20 years later. But it has the weakest library between it, DC, PS2, and GCN. Hence, why Xbox emulation is behind. I felt Xbox was what Sony promised to deliver with the PS2 but PS2 *technically* underdelivered. PS2 is the most popular, but it had some of the worst graphics of that four. Microsoft engineers defeated Sony in that gen with better specs. Not that PlayStation 2 was that weak. It matured by 2005. I’m playing Rogue Galaxy from 2007 and it definitely looks like the best-looking game on the console. I doubt Dreamcast could run God of War and Rogue Galaxy at 60 fps when it could barely handle Shenmue II. PS2 was very much like Sega Saturn where it had this hidden potential to make beautiful games but it was difficult to develop for. Saturn is the one I can’t run. Another complicated console to develop for similar to PS2 and PS3 but far less popular. No concise tutorials for it on KZbin and I’m clueless how to use CHDMAN. I may skip that one like I will with NDS. I never grew up owning a Saturn, so I don’t have nostalgia for it. I barely bought it in 2004 at a GameCrazy and rarely used it. I only want to play obscure 2D platformers like Super Tempo and Tryrush Deppy but it’s no big deal if I can’t play them. MAME is very hit or miss. Can’t seem to run the Model 2, 3, and NAOMI games. Can’t even launch any Street Fighter II game or Tekken Tag. But it can run Mortal Kombat I & II and NBA Jam & TE just fine which was the opposite experience with my Vita. My Vita plays the arcade version of Super Street Fighter II perfectly but can’t play the Midway classics. I do have some stinkers like WWF Wrestlemania, The Adventures of Bayou Billy and The Karate Kid on NES. But I did own Bayou Billy and remember beating The Karate Kid many times circa 1989-1990. One of the easiest games to beat similar to Kung Fu. Since most NES games are under a megabyte, it’s easier not to be picky. If it has some childhood attachment to me, I’ll download it even if the game is awful. Steam Deck is the GOAT, folks. Can play almost every generation and for under $300 if you look at the used market. Odin 2 can’t play Wii U or any recent AAA titles like FFVII Remake and Elden Ring. Steam Deck is the perfect balance of performance, price, ecosystem, and support. It’s the best gaming device I’ve ever owned. I’m only gaming on handhelds for the rest of my life. All-Time Favorite Gaming Devices 1. Steam Deck 2. PS Vita 3. Switch Lite 4. PSP 5. PlayStation 6. Dreamcast 7. PlayStation 2 8. Super NES 9. GameCube 10. Genesis 11. NES 12. Wii All-Time Favorite Games 1. Final Fantasy VII 2. Shenmue II 3. Tekken 3 4. NBA Street Vol. 2 5. Super Mario World 6. Ridge Racer (PSP) 7. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 8. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! 9. Street Fighter II’: SCE (Genesis) 10. Super Street Fighter II (MAME) 11. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 12. Final Fantasy X *PS5* *Pro* I don’t need it or any console that’s tethered to a TV. AAA titles are dying. They’re becoming too expensive and too long to make. With all that power, you want AAA titles coming out every 10 years? Since the PS4/Xbone era, we don’t have limitations coming from hardware like previous gens. The limitations are coming from the man power and budget. Do developers want to spend at least 5 years making one AAA game? Console era is over. Every game system from here on out should be portable. Then I expect companies like Microsoft and Sony to be gatekeepers to their library like Valve. Most games will move to the cloud and subscription based. If you see my list of titles on my Deck, you can see I’m allergic to many modern games in Gen 7-9. I hate first-person shooters. Very few modern games I would consider fun. It’s more boring and complicated. I’m in Chapter 13 in FF7R and I don’t love it as much as the OG. There is a lot of meandering scenes and padding to the gameplay. Beautiful to look at. Not as fun to play. This is my problem with most AAA titles after Gen 6. True, they look good to look at. Give me Tifa with the graphical power we have now compared to 1997. But many of these games are also a burden and tedious to play. I read Red Dead Redemption II is a slogfest. 😴

One of the reasons I still choose the Switch over the Steamdeck is having physical copies of games. It just makes me feel I really own them. It may be cheaper to download games, but it's not for everyone. And I'm one of those guys who love collecting physical games.

Physical games all the way. Actually owning games vs having a license to play games are two totally different things. Too many people these things think they own a digital game just bc they pressed the "Buy" button. Playstation and Steam Deck are moving more people to digital only because is cheaper and more convenient, but people will be unceremoniously put out if Steam or any other platforms restructure and shut down servers (RIP Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShop). The games that need to check for an internet connection before playing will also be useless if their servers don't exist anymore down the line.

The size of the Steam Deck and the fact that there's no way to try it except to buy it has been the main reason why I'm hesitant to get it. Together with the fact that I do not have a Steam library, and little interest in exploring the PC side of gaming, I'm just praying to the universe that Nintendo doesn't wait too long and comes out with a new console soon. Because you are right, it's definitely starting to show its age, and as much as I love it, I feel like it deserves to retire 😅

If you do definitely get the new one, it's much lighter, and you get to install mods. I don't own one, but my brother got one from both releases, and he is very happy. As for the library games are much cheaper for PC but if you are in a budget wait for the big sale dates I didn't get one bc the switch is a ppl gatherer, and i guess that's why it's still standing strong almost a decade from its launch and the reason I chose it over the more powerful ones

That's the problem with all hardware. You need a sizable population to test the hardware and point out all the problems with it. Then the manufacturer can fix it in a revision a couple of years later. The fixes for the Steam Deck are minor though but across the board. Revisions are common in the console space as well. Atleast it's better than Nintendo refusing to acknowledge their faulty Joycons.

Honestly it was the Switch release of My Time at Sandrock that kicked my disappointment with the Switch's performance issues up to frustration. I have had far fewer complaints than other gamers I know because I've almost always played only Nintendo, and these issues aren't uncommon across their systems - especially handheld-capable ones, which have long been my main way of gaming. Personally the switch will always be my main source of gaming while I get that content creators that do rely of gaming I think from me it’s prefect. My first console that I’ve played was the Wii. I’ve been a Nintendo fan ever since. Now I’m a college student working a part time job so I have barely any time to just sit down and play any games. This year I’ve gotten more & more into indie games. While yes some games have been held back for one reason or another it doesn’t really bother me as much. When looking for games to play I look for three main things: 1.)The music 2.)The plot 3.)The difficulty. Also, affordability; I bought a Switch lite in Summer 2022 for the sole reason of its low price & the portability. I get play on it right from my bed which I feel like I don’t feel like I wouldn’t get that same feeling if I were to play on something else.

Like the JSAUX Mod Case (w/ the fan), the JSAUX Carrying Case, a docking station, and an Anker 45W fast charger. You'll be glad you did. Expand externally for a year, then bust that thing wide open, and the sky's the limit. Honestly, I have only been gaming for three years, but the Steam Deck revolutionized gaming for me. ❤ Cheers!!

I've been toying with the idea of the ROG Ally. If only for the reason I can play Game pass games and Epic store games out the box and not have to do anything. I get where you're coming from and there are skmw games I'm looking at and wondering if I should hold off till I get an Ally.

Since buying my first steam deck in March I've been focusing on buying games on there. I'll keep my switch for nintendo exclusives but I just prefer the steam deck. I think I've only bought like 3 games on switch this year lol. I do find the switch with a grip is more comfortable but I still reach for my steam deck more. I got the limited edition oled and I'm so happy I did!! It's lighter, better battery, and I LOVE the screen! I was able to give my nephew my old steam deck for christmas and he loves it.

A new steam deck user here and I love it. As a new user I am enjoying the huge library of games available. I also love the community of steam users. I got a discounted LCD version for a very reasonable price. (~300 us dollars). The price is nearly double for an OLD. not worth the upgrades for me. I play my steam deck mostly at home and work. I find it too big to pull out on the bus but small enough to fit in my backpack. I am playing my switch less and less, just kind of getting bored with it to be honest.

I have only played Switch since its release, but last week I finally bought a 2nd hand Steam Deck. I feel the same as you do about the Switch. Mainly my issue is I live in Asia and the Nintendo eshop doesn't have a lot of the games that I want to play. Also, I wanted to buy the physical copy 'Let's build a zoo' but it was much more expensive than SD's winter sale price while actually having less of the game (I think the area for expansion is less?) I'm pretty much done with the Switch for indie games.

Tbf, indie games and ports not performing well/buggy releases aren't the switch's age's fault. Nier Automata, P5R, MHR, FE3H, etc... run smooth like butter on switch and those games are more graphically and power intensive than indie games like Mineko's Night Market, Potion Permit, etc... Notice how the examples I also gave weren't even first party Nintendo titles - those were ports as well. The biggest problem these days is optimization. Devs don't take the time to optimize their games before releasing on switch BECAUSE it's easy to just blame it on switch old hardware and people eat it up
@Eeowna

The lower the specs the harder optimisation gets though. So it kinda all comes back to the switch being old
@louvella-sama

@@Eeowna the switch hardware is old there's no denying that - but it's also up to developers to optimize their games if they decide to release their games on switch knowing the capabilities of the console very well. There's really no excuse to release buggy games especially not fix it through updates after release when bigger, more graphically and power intensive games run well on the system despite the said old hardware and the said new bad ports are small games that have pixel graphics etc... heck devs were able to make a modern game like Hogwarts Legacy run on switch even with compromises - the fact that it even runs at all means it's up to the devs' efforts to optimize their games.

@@louvella-samaif you have to remove all of textures, disembowell the resolution to get a title to even run then you still have frame pacing issues and frame drops. That's not an optimisation problem. That's 8 year old H/W that was low end when it came out. The technology is almost last last gen🤷. The switch has had a good run but it's done. My Switch has been in a box for almost 18 months🤷.

I don't blame you for being frustrated tho, I myself am getting tired of the bad switch ports. I only have a switch since I'm a pure handheld player, so I'm really getting tempted to get a Lenovo Legion Go or a Steamdeck OLED. Reasons I haven't gotten either is because I don't have a steam library nor a normal PC even, budget constraints, and I don't like LCD screens so I was waiting for Steamdeck OLED. Now I'm just waiting for a price drop.

Hello :) Lenovo legion go owner! Please get either one. Making a steam account is so simple and easy. The sale prices compared to the Nintendo sale prices are unbelievable. I picked up Red Dead 2, GTA 5, all the Tomb Raider series and all Batman trilogy plus Origins, for about 50 dollars for the winter sale. The quality is superb. the fact that the switch can’t even handle GTA 5 a 2013 game is where I couldn’t take it anymore. I’m sure the switch 2 will be an improvement but I don’t think it can beat the Lenovo Go or Steamdeck.

One of the biggest pros I have about the Nintendo switch verses steam deck is due to how I struggle with making the steam deck compatible with the games I play. I’ve never been a PC gamer so majority of the games I do play on the steam deck must have the controls configured to be compatible with handheld play verses with a keyboard. I hope more and more games that aren’t AAA titles will receive more attention to be able to “pick up and go” like the switch, which is why I will continue to prefer the switch until another console can replicate this!

so this is just a commercial of the steam deck OLED. portable wise, I'd prefer the switch. switch oled has better battery and portability in terms of weight and size. I don't really mind playing with 30fps indie games because 30 fps is playable and it's only on a small screen. plus if it's just indie games the the frame rate does not really matter as long as it's playable. it's not like you're playing fortnite or something. not to mention nintendo exclusives.

I own both a Switch and Steam Deck (neither are OLED), and I use the Switch for more family-oriented games. While I do have games that I myself have played, or still play, like Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, Monster Hunter Rise, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and many others, it's mainly used for family games that we (the family) can play together either via co-op or just to watch someone else play (because of solo only). Games like Mario Party, Super Mario 3D World, Boomerang Fu, Luigi's Mansion, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and a few others can help with bringing the family together, or have something that me and me nephew can play together. I am very appreciative of what the Switch has done as far as co-op games, so I can never really say that the Steam Deck has completely taken over, or that I'm done with the Switch, because I use them for different things.

I have been on the fence about a Steam deck for awhile and if I get one it will be an OLED based on what you said in your video. No I don't think I will be getting one anytime soon, but if I were- Will I be upset if I buy it and a Switch 2 comes out in the next year?- no, because, even if games are backwards compatible they will still have all the same issues as before as the developers will need to make updates regardless. Additionally, I suspect there will be a good long time before there is a library of games I would be interested in released for the Switch 2, as with most new console releases, it takes time for developers to get new games optimized for the new system.

So i think i wouldn't make much use of it anyways. So far I'm just planning on going through my backlog and hope when switch 2 comes out there will be backwards compatibility or the option to still keep using switch 1 for new games

I bought the steam deck OLED in order to play My Time at Sandrock and Coral Island. Although I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't work with a pro controller as I play mostly with my switch hooked to my TV. The steam deck has intermittent problems with the pro controller after an hour or two of playing the controller will freeze. The worst part is that your character will freeze but not the game. Which means in the middle of a fight you can get killed. Hitting the home button will sometimes reset and you can move again. Coral Island has an odd problem with audio so faint you can barely hear it. I read the devs know about this issue but it is something to think about.

I used to have that problem with my Pro Controller on the Steam Deck but I don’t anymore. I don’t know what fixed it. Have you tried connecting your Pro Controller to your Switch and updating the controller in the settings app? Then connecting it back to the Steam Deck.

I got a steamdeck (LCD) as soon as the price dropped for it when the oled came out. I have hardly picked my switch up since.

I had the steam deck since launch (almost 2 years). It’s great. But battery life sucks. 1-1.5hrs for any AAA game. Once you get past the honeymoon phase with it…you will see that It’s also too big. I have big hands and From a portability standpoint it’s a giant block of plastic. So I Sold it. Got a switch OLED and not looking back. It’s thin, more portable, and the Switch library is full of AAA games that last 4-7 hours of battery.

I’m saving up for the Steam Deck. So many times I’ve been playing a game on my PC and wished I could continue the game while in bed or on the couch. The Steam Deck would allow that luxury.

While I won’t disagree that the Switch is quite old and doesn’t have the best hardware I also feel a lot of devs just don’t put the effort into porting their games to Switch, especially more recently. Not just indies (which is a bit more understandable as they’re typically smaller teams) but also bigger games like MK1 and the Batman Arkham Collection. A good port can be done but it may take some time, just look at something like Dave the Diver which initially released in June and didn’t get a switch port till October (a 4 month wait) or Witcher 3 which is honestly miraculous how it runs on Switch. The Switch’s user base has grown so large that many want to tap into that audience but also don’t want them to feel FOMO for having to wait. Sure it may suck to wait but I’d rather wait for a decent game rather then get it same day it releases everywhere else and have a subpar game As for the Steam Deck, while it’s nice I feel it’s only really justifiable if you’re already got a fairly decent Steam Library. Not to mention the price is pretty up there ($550 for base OLED compared to $350 for Switch OLED) for a heavier less comfortable system. If I were to get it as a gift I wouldn’t mind it but I’d never spend my own money on it unless it has a huge sale/discount, especially with the “Switch 2” or whatever it’ll be called rumored to release next year
@Eeowna
@Eeowna 9 ай бұрын
I feel like the price argument doesn’t take into account the years you have it. Indies in general are cheaper on steam deck. Over time if you are a frequent buyer of games you will make up that cost. Don’t get me wrong I love my switch but it’s very hard to keep recommending this late on in the life span if you want to play current games
@AlexDayz

@@Eeowna Understandable. Aside from first party Nintendo games I notice myself playing a lot older indies on Switch like Hollow Knight or Hades. Hopefully though the Switch 2 rumors are true and we get it next year. Probably won’t be as powerful as a Steam Deck but it definitely needs an upgrade

@@AlexDayz Even if the Switch 2 has performance parity with the Steamdeck ( and I'm 99% certain it will be close ) it doesn't stop bad ports playing poorly. The issue here is development time/resources. Due to the increasing costs of making games, developers tend to prioritise one platform ... for AA/AAA games that tends to be Playstation, and for indy games it's often PC. Switch will always be the best platform to play 1st party Nintendo games ( legally ! )

@@djsuth7727the bigger thing is the PS5, XBox and Steam Deck all have a very similar set of APUs in them. Zen2 CPU and RDNA2 GPU. The deck just has less CPU cores and CUs. AMD provide the APUs for all three. The SteamDeck is actually capable of running ray tracing as well.

I have an oled switch and I’m waiting on my steam deck to come in. I personally didn’t want to sink in that much money on the deck so I got the regular one. I already have a switch, Xbox and ps5. The oled deck just seemed too pricey considering I have other games to play.

I have had some frustrations with some of the indie games but then I'm also like - don't release it on the switch if you haven't properly tested it! I'm holding out for the Switch 2 for now. I do wish I could try out a Steam Deck somewhere since I have very small hands ;)

Hi! I am really caught - I have researched the Lite, the Reg Switch and the OLED. I am afraid I will purchase the wrong one. I do not have any intention of upgrading what I buy, anytime soon. I love the tv adapt feature. I love the larger screen. I never considered the Lite until a friend mentioned getting this one to be sure I like the gaming system. Uggh. As a gamer from the Atari era (showing my age), I am looking for a bit more fun in my life - to take it w me while running errands, while still being able to play all the top games you recently reviewed on your channel - Blanc, Dordogne, Coffee Talk, FaeFarm Etc. Can I ask what you mean by Indie games? Any thoughts on which one you buy if you were me. Many Thanks, Inexperienced GameGirl

There are many games I am wanting to play on my switch, but when my AC game was lagging due to too much stuff, I got irritated. I knew then that any game I want to play won’t work right. At the moment my switch is docked and I am currently playing games on my iPad through Apple Arcade. I don’t have a gaming computer, console, or laptop and the laptop I do have is strictly for non gaming related stuff. Because my hands start to ache, I am going to wait till the next Switch comes out. I love playing with nice grips and also having the joycons in my hands while it’s docked. Hopefully they continue with the joycon but fix the drift issues.

If the Switch 2 came out tomorrow… the Steamdeck catalog is likely more compelling. If Switch 2 came with backwards compatibility… expect existing games possibly to have better load times/framerate.. but that architecture likely means the same slow periods between PC release, and a Switch version a long time down the line as an afterthought.

I exactly feel this. I ended up buying a PS5, played both the PS5 and the switch for a few months but then stopped picking up the switch. The PS5 has better graphics, gets newer games faster and the Nintendo really doesn’t (takes the longest to get new games to come to the console). But then the Nintendo games that are exclusive to Nintendo only come out to Nintendo which is frustrating because I’m big on the origami king and the new paper Mario thousand year door remake coming to switch. So I’ve been holding onto it. But makes me not want to upgrade it or buy any games.

I feel so torn - I want the steamdeck oled so much, but if I get it, it is SO much more expensive than switch in AUD that not only would I not be able to get a switch 2 (if it came out 2024), I also wouldn’t be able to upgrade my phone (needed). Ughhh adulting sucks

To give cost context, switch oled here is usually under $400, steam deck is $1500 and a new phone will be $1800.

I have every console from all PlayStations, including handhelds like PSP, Vita, and soon the Portal. I have the Steam deck, and certainly every Nintendo console and handheld. Without a doubt, the Switch is the one I’ve played the most, even more than the 3DS. Does it have problems? Of course! So does every console I’ve ever played. I have more problems with Ninty the company and its practices than I do with their Switch though.

I've been so on the fence about the Steam Deck. Mostly because of the price but partly because I wasn't sure how well most of the games I play on steam would run on it. I think it's finally time to get one since there is a OLED model now and if Nintendo does end up releasing a Switch 2 in 2024, I'll wait on player reviews and feedback before purchasing as well. If you do a Switch 2 review, I'll will for sure watch that video before making a decision 👍

I’ve also been loving and playing my Steam Deck far more than my Switch (unless, of course I’m playing a Nintendo exclusive) because too many games now are having issues running on the Switch or making too many graphical compromises so it will run. However, the Switch OLED is still a beautiful console with a gorgeous screen.
