I"m a Fil-Am, English teacher. As a teacher in the US I know that correcting a student's accent can get you into deep trouble, maybe even fired. As English teachers we were taught that how you English is your culture and your business. There are many accents and dialects of English spoken in the US: Spanglish, AAVE, etc. If a student speaks to you and you understand, that's all that matters. Do. NOT. "CORRECT" someone. And if you don't understand, then say so. Understanding someone is what matters, not their accent. How you speak is your identity, for example, I speak Fil-Am, Queens, NYC, English. Which is different from a White-Texan, middle class English, etc. If a student says something, you can also say, oh how I say it is.... It's very important to say "I" because you're not saying the way you say it is the "correct way", it's just how you say it. I'm happy that you made this content, I wished you put Korean subtitles for my Korean students here in Korea, many of whom will probably go to the Philippines, just like you. Thanks! You're great!

Being Filipino/Pinoy is NOT a race; it is a culture. With that cilture, you develop mannerisms and ways of perceiving and doing things, including having that particular accent. I think it depends who you talk to everyday. I've been working in the bpo industry for 11 years, and I can say tenured agents speak like native americans since we are talking to them for how many years. It is really rare to hear someone especially tenured agents who has this Filipino accent. For me it is harder to speak english with Filipino accent. And take note, most of us dosen't really care if someone has american accent or whatever, we are tired of hearing "american accent" Even american's has different accent. New Yorker speak so fast, Texas has this accent of prolonging the end of every word. Sometimes i listened to agents calls from United States, believe it or not some Americans thought the agent they are talking to is from the Philippines😅 People who cannot speak english well sometimes are the most racist people in the world. Guys having american accent won't make u look "cool" rich or cheap. The one who thinks that way are the cheapest..

Agrree, there are many...i just love the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago's high fah🤓 english with ilonggo accent which often commands attention. God is soooo wise. He created the brilliant and feisty Senator an ilongga who delivers her wrath in the sweetest and humorous manner. And you should see then, how we struggled in speech class to rid our speech with our spanish, visayan, ilokano, kapampangan, etc. accents...WHY? because it was the meduim of instruction in pinoy schools, that made it easy for us to think in english, thus we speak the language. Our hospitality tops alot of our neighbors, they say, because we can communicate in English. The accents are the touches of our 100+regional dialects that spices up the conversation, and unfortunately,is very irritating to people with OCDs particularly those who cringe at every mispronounced word! What matter is that you understood what was spoken and you responded correctly in that language.

I'm not even talking abt accent anymore but just proper way of communicating. Not just in English but also to other languages.

No worries, not all Filipinos take offense over their Filipino Accent. I personally am proud of my Filipino accent. Don't get me wrong, I've worked in the BPO industry for several years so I can honestly say that I sounded just like a native speaker back in the day. Later on, I just grew tired of it. Since I'm no longer required to use the accent nor adapt an American name just so we can prevent issues and discrimination while at work unlike back in 2004, I realized I wanted to adapt my Filipino accent back. However, it was the softened version as I was still required to sound neutral. True enough, I had numerous callers who appreciated me for being a Filipino. There was even this one time where I got complimented for having a 'Filipino Neutral Accent'. She recognized right away that I am a Filipino and liked me more for it. She said I sounded like a CNN Broadcaster who's a "Filipino" and that I was very articulate. She also said she loves speaking to Filipinos because we are quick to pick up, polite, friendly and easy to understand. So for me, having a Filipino accent while speaking english fluently makes a Filipino look more intelligent because it ONLY proves how quick our thought processes is. Imagine how fast our minds work from translating what we heard into Filipino, thinking of a response in Filipino, then translating it back to english before speaking it out, with the ability to switch back and forth different accents at will to boost. I actually think that is amazing. I think, it is now time to move forward and stop ourselves from trying to prove something each time just to compesate what we thought is our disadvantage which is our accent. Guys, we are already accepted and appreciated globally. Proof of that are the BPO industry as well as the international students that come here to learn english. Let's now break out of our cocoons. So to my fellow Filipinos, let's embrace our accent, let's Be Proud. (Disclaimer: I will post this to as many similar videos as possible) #PuntongPinoy

Just be proud.. We Filipinos can speak english while american can't speak tagalog. English is just our 2nd languange. We are not american we don't need to imitate o copy the american accent. American Professor's said that Filipino English accent is the nearest accent similar to american accent compare to other accent like indian at bangladish who are also mass english speakers. Im proud of it.. like judurant!!

A natural accent comes from a rich culture of a country by embracing the culture makes your heart on one of them even if you are different from them if the way people see's you through respect, love, learning their culture they willingly want to accept you open arm. Cultural differences should not be separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can benefit all of humanity We may have different religious, languages, skin tone but we all belong to one human race!

Why would people make a person be embarrassed by their accent, dialect, or language? Are Koreans not ashamed of their Korean accent too?

As a 100% Filipina with no Pinoy accent at all I a.m kind of jealous actually. I grew up overseas so when I visit family in the Philippines I want to sound local ya know… it makes me proud as well. Guuurl Pinoy ka na! Pinoy by heart and soul, not blood but who cares? You are more Pinoy than me te! Lmao keep going!!! Honestly a lot of people going to the Philippines and learn English from a young age also learn Tagalog with it which, uhm TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE, You know two languages now!
