NGL... That third quiz had me cracking up. The confusion was cute to watch. Most of the asexual themed questions were worded just weirdly enough that you could tell the creators were likely unsure how to phrase things and kinda tiptoed their way around the concept... And I suspect, even if they *were* worded more directly, he would have *still* responded to every one of those questions with "???????" just because of how far outside that world he lives. Good times. To give more clarification, the ace questions were about identifying a lack of sexual attraction, then also gauging whether you are sex repulsed (and to what degree), indifferent to sex, or sex favorable. Asexual people can still have high libidos and be really into sex and such, it's just they don't feel sexually drawn to anyone. After all, not everyone needs to be attracted to someone to be able to have sex with them. And sex repulsion, being repulsed by, or averse to sexual intimacy of varying degrees isn't an explicitly asexual thing... It's just more commonly expressed by asexual people than those of most other sexual orientations. That question about differentiating close friends and potential partners... It's not uncommon for asexual and aromantic people to have difficulty understanding the distinction between who is simply a close friend, and who is a potential romantic/ sexual partner in some scenarios. Love, romance, and attraction is so ingrained into society that many ace and aro people end up experiencing moments of... Let's call it disconnect... For example, some have the experience of picking out a person to have a crush on in middle or high school, because they think they're *supposed* to have a crush on someone, and no one in particular jumped out at them initially... so after running a pros and cons analysis of people they knew to be available and knew well enough to analyze, chose that one person to be like "yes... This is the person I _LIKE-like_ because they are the best! They are :insert whatever physical or personality metrics to place importance on here: and I *like* that." And then once they commence with having this crush, they have absolutely no idea what they're actually supposed to do with it beyond be friendly with that person as they always have. Or, better example, some have the experience of meeting someone new, finding them interesting and fun and getting the feeling that they'd really like to get to know them better. They fixate on that person and want to spend more time hanging out and laughing together and all kinds of things... Never once considering the option of wanting to date them... but then, either that person, or a mutual friend, or someone misreads the behavior as actually being interested in a more intimate relationship and the aro/ace person is completely blindsighted by the moment they are confronted on the matter, and then have to take *several* moments to think and consider it. The thinking process will go something like this: "Wait... *AM* I interested in them in that way? Does that mean I finally have a crush?! COOL!!! Wait... Well... I think they're awesome. I love hanging out... I feel like life is better with them around... That's a crush then, right? So I like them? Is this a love thing? Hmmm... But do I want to, like... hold hands... and kiss... and other things with them?.... No... not really... Maybe if they really want to, I could try and go along with it?.... That's probably a bad idea, right?... Yeah... no... What even made people think I wanted that in the first place?" That rabbit hole can go on for *DAYS* and it's not exactly fun... So yeah... the intense confusion he had to that question on close friends and potential partners... Yeah... that's about right... welcome to asexuality. Most ace/ aro people eventually find a system for figuring these things out for themselves. Aro people who are not ace, will experience sexual attraction and use that to aid in making the distinction, and ace people who aren't aro will learn the markers for when they are romantically attracted to a person... and aro-ace people... 8:28 is a question probing people who might be demisexual. a sexuality on the ace-spectrum where sexual attraction only forms after a strong emotional bond. Hence, why someone who's demi might 'struggle to find a difference' because they do not feel sexually attracted to people from the get go, which means close friends are often the people you're sexually attracted to and thus plays a part in considering who you might want to get into a sexual relationship with. Seeing Hasan being confused by all the Ace/Aro questions like, welcome to how confusing it is to be ace, and trying to figure out all those questions myself all the time. So much worse if you're not sex repulsed it's just another 12 layers of confusion. Even the how do you differentiate between close friends and potential partners, like oh boy. I LOVE my friends, but what if I *love* them?? Am I biromantic??? none of what people say about sexual attraction makes much sense to me, I'm constantly finding out more things and getting more convinced I'm less demi/gray ace and more just full ace. (example; when you find someone sexy that means you want to have sex with them??? I always thought it was just like cute or beautiful but like with a different vibe???)
