Identify what exactly you like and dont like about each piece and look at how you can improve upon it in the next piece, have a certain goal you want to achieve, i want to practice anatomy in this, i want to practice color and light in this piece, i want to practice texture in this piece, etc. etc. Dont just jump into a piece and spend the whole day on it getting bogged down in the details, really try to learn from it. Have an idea? Paint from references that are similar to the idea you have in mind and then apply that knowledge to the imaginative piece. Make simpler pieces and youll learn even more allowing you to create complex scenes at an easier pace. Perhaps you know this if not, i hope i helped a bit.

im sorry if I am being a bit skeptical and too in depth but here we go Art is something that is based on creativity and the ability to execute it correctly. That means that, as the artist, you may see so many errors in your art that it alters your perception of how others view your art, mean while the people looking at your art appreciates it the way it is. Asking, "have I improved?" is highly subjective, and it should be, instead, "have I been trying?" Improvement at something that is purely creativity is impossible because there are so many possibilities. This infinite amount of possibilities means that it is impossible to judge and compare every single art piece you made and create an accurate depiction of whether or not you have "improved" Since it is impossible to go through every single artwork you have created and look purely at the details, you tend to focus on the negative things you have spotted in your artwork, and when your brain learns to spot those things, it becomes a habit that you spot errors in the work you are making, creating a sense of hatred towards yourself for not overcoming that error. This is then amplified when you look at work in the past. Of course, this is all speculation but I feel like this is an accurate portral of how all artists feel. Basically, don't be so harsh on yourself. Of course, you are improving. You are just too busy focusing on the mistakes to realize what you're doing more right.
