My opinion on the longevity is this: a high brow topic isn’t required every week. I tune in to hear your commentary on the mini painting world be that products, your personal projects or current events. It’s humours and easy listening for me, it’s the personalities involved that I enjoy. I don’t look at the episode title and decide to listen or not listen.

The friendship of Scott and Jon is entertaining enough on its own. Keep the focus of the podcast about anything that seems fun or interesting to you. If you're having fun, it's fun to listen to. Your idea to review individual models and/or paint jobs is one I would definitely tune in for. Also critiquing rules systems and pieces of game lore could be interesting as well.

I’d love to see a segment tied to the “what you painted this week” which discusses the biggest struggle with that specific painting process. Did you knock over a Nuln Oil, did you fudge up a face, and how did you overcome these pitfalls with the skills you have learned over time in the hobby. Other than that I’d happily watch/listen to you both just say the word “Tendie” over and over with varying degrees of inflection for 1hr and have no problem with it. We’re all here to see you guys.

Starting at the top, love it. I honestly am leaning with Jon's perspective on the podcast. I think you should continue to thrive on your on what makes your set special, your talented and interesting artists who can maintain a viewership due to your personality, experience related content. As a very amateur hobbiest rather enjoy the fun hobbiest ideas and fun content which yall have in spades, over the expert, and sorry to say it, 'eavy metal or paint like the experts content. Keep up the great work. love it.

I’m catching up on episodes and just finished this one. This was one of my favorite episodes so far. I thought you both had a lot of good advice and encouragement for painters who aren’t as confident in their skills and the advice for beginning commission painting was fantastic. If I ever do decide to take that up, I’ll for sure need to listen to this episode again.

I absolutely love the podcast. I dont/ have ever listened to podcast but i also watch the videos themselves. I enjoy the back & forth between you two. Even the off topic ramblings. It helps make it seem not forced or staged.. keeping it real between two guys that have alot in common..theres always new products coming out & the things you all have been painting in since the last podcast to keep us entertained..theres always room for growth with having another mini painter to join & input, but the more people chiming in can become a small problem in itself..just love what you all have been doing & will continue to listen/ watch regardless of what's to come.

We may think we're creative but them scrapbookers make some miniature people look sloppy. 😄

I am shocked it’s already been a year! I remember listening to the first one at work and the initial excitement has remained. Every two weeks, I hear the “ding” on my phone and I do the happy pants dance. I love you guys, and... just like Jon, I never listened to a podcast before, but now I follow 4 Hobby related podcasts. I love getting to know artists and content creators. These would be extremely awesome podcasts. Maybe once every 4 episodes or something? That way it doesn’t get stale, and it allows you to go a bit deeper for them. I’m here for the ride, so whatever you guys do..... I’ll be here with my popcorn and childish smile. lol

I have always enjoyed the show, and the commentary you two bring to the hobby. You two are the product, the show is the outcome of that, if that makes any sense. I wouldn't worry about topics as much, and just make sure that you both are excited to be there, and that enthusiasm does most of the work. Selfishly, I would like to see some guests from time to time, the Murder Basement is at your service. But, as a whole, I think you two are enough to keep our attention for years to come, just don't over think it, the audience will tell you when it is no longer fun.

I think the podcast has value regardless of the main topic of conversation. You both have a fan base who is entertained and informed by your conversations. Even if someone only has it in the background while they paint, you're making a fairly solitary hobby less lonely. That is the base value of the podcast, and the topics add value accordingly. Don't sell your work short, its important. I don't know anyone irl who paints minis. These conversations help me feel like a part of the community and help me see different sections of the hobby I wouldn't otherwise know about. Any topic is a good topic and has value.

Hopefully I'm not to late to weigh in on this. I discovered your podcast by listening to Paint Bravely, and it only took a few episodes for it to become my favorite podcast. In a month I've listened to every...single...one. While your insights into the various topics are interesting and valuable, that's not why I love your podcast. It's the banter. It is obvious you guys get along great, and it makes me feel like I'm there with you rather than painting by my lonesome. Keep it up guys, and if you can occasionally discuss a really deep and value-adding topic, well that's just gravy.

I love the current format and think anything you guys wanna do would work. The fluidity in conversation no matter the topic is what I enjoy the most. If you still want ideas you could do a series on past golden demons/crystal brushes top finishers. What you like and dislike from each model. What you can learn just from looking at the models etc, so on and so forth. You could flash the models on screen and show us what you're talking about. I think that could be cool!

I must agree with a lot of the comments, I'm listening because it is you guys, specifically because it's the 2 of you. I just finished Jeremy's "from Black Magic Crafts" interview with Heath Aldridge. Jeremy's statement was 100% true. "The everytime listener's follow the people or hosts, not the content." Now the content is how I found you, but connecting with you as a viewer is why I keep coming back each time. As for topics I like that you do a mix of stuff. I find out cool news on paint ranges and models. I take away useful information like hints and tips about techniques in "what you painted" . I enjoy the humor and bantering. I don't know if you should pin yourselves down to one thing. PS you both did great interviews with Heath. I enjoyed them very much!

Hi Scott and Jon, first of all you guys are amazing. Please keep up the awesome content you create, both here and on your personal channels. I love that Jon is now also producing his own videos. As for the endless well of content for the podcast, here are two ideas: 1.) Viewer questions. The sprues and spuets that love your rambling and humor likely have an endless number of questions and topics that they love to hear you chat about. 2.) Paint approach comparison. Both paint the same model in the same paint scheme, and take pictures along the way. Then compare them on the podcast to see how your approach differed or was similar. It will highlight your different views and show all viewers/listeners that there is no golden rule on how to approach miniature painting. Best part, you can also do this with any of your guests joining on the podcast.

I'm a dentist, and a dungeon master for DnD. I started painting for my DnD games and enjoy doing it on the weekends. I actually listened to the podcast initially for the painting but I actually just enjoy listening to you nerds and do so in my work office between patients, and when painting in my free time. I guess what I'm saying is keep up the format and personal chat interspersed with a couple of good painting topics as I find y'all entertaining. A fun idea for a topic: Going over some prize winning paint-jobs together and criticizing or going over how to get certain techniques could be neat, then doing it together or something could be neat. Keep doing what you're doing and I'll keep enjoying it.

I have loved the first year of TuP. I think Jon's thoughts about the podcast match mine. I wouldn't worry about every episode being deep and insightful. The preamble and the news sections keep it fresh. I'd think of it like a morning sports radio show. Sometimes the topic drives the quality, but sometimes it is just the personalities of hosts. Nothing wrong with people wanting to hear you guys chat for an hour or two!

Happy birthday T.U.P. ! I hope Scott and his mom will be able to come over to the UK sometime, they can both nerd out on history, maybe meet some painters here, and see what ruined castles and medieval cities look like. Maybe bring Jon and do a couple of paid tutorial sessions when all this current situation settles down. Guys, I can easily believe you are both like this all the time, it is such a natural style that it wouldn't be possible to put it on for 52 podcasts and goodness knows how many other videos.

I arrived at this podcast because I found Scott through BMC. I keep watching because I like what you produce. I understand the desire to have this topic that stands alone when you produce an episode. That’s valid. And of course you have the right to drive the content in whatever way feels right. I suggest not engaging in judgement of your podcast by the way people digest it. I have ADHD and I need to have some other input while I’m painting. I enjoy this podcast because it’s long. I love the long form podcast. Having to switch videos every 10 minutes is tiresome for me. As a therapist, I really enjoy listening to you two discuss life as well as painting. Further down in the comments someone suggested that the podcast should be you two painting while just talking. I LOVE that idea! It’s great when you talk about what you are doing in a showing/telling way but really an over the shoulder view while you talk would be so good. Ignore the haters. They are jealous. You guys are fabulous. Coming back here to say this about commission painting: artists should charge $50/hour minimum. People who cannot do what you do want you to do it for them. Time is worth something and is not something that anyone has more of than anyone else. Obviously one can charge less than that and a beginner should not ask for that much. (Check out painted minis on Etsy...omg). But in general, artists, which both of you are, should charge for your art. There is a difference IMO between “I’ll toss you $5 to paint this mini” and “I’d like to commission you to paint this for me.” Additionally, this is just a boundary thing: “If I say NO and someone gets angry, that does not mean I should have said YES”

I think the podcast is incredible as it is. I never loved any podcasts before TUP, and I think the main point is not only how both Jon and Scott's personalities work together, making the sort of stupid conversations between friends really funny, but also the theme of miniature painting is what everyone watching this channel enthusiastic about. So seeing you two's professional point on things related to the topic is really interesting.

I enjoy the banter, news, etc but I think the biggest draw for me is the podcasts focus on painting vs war gaming. In North America, there is so much focus on the gaming aspect of the hobby. Even most painting videos, guides, etc are all about painting GW minis or painting to get onto the tabletop. Obviously there are some exceptions like Vince V but TUP hits a nice balance of "painting topics" (self improvement, painting philosophy, competition, talk about products, motivation, etc). I love tabletop games and play them regularly but I don't know people who care deeply about painting like I do. It's nice to have content like this that really scratches that area of the hobby which I think is underrepresented in podcasts.

What you guys are doing in this podcast is what people wants to see from you, this is your brand, keep doing what you're doing because is working. It's fine if once-in-a-while you want to add a interview or a guess to your show or have a more in depth discussion ala the recasting episode that makes this show your show. I like the Joe Rogan show but I don't watch all the episodes, with you guys I see your new video is up on KZbin and I click in it, thats it, I don't read the title. On the topic of the future of the podcast - Jon nailed it at 1:01:00. The best parts of this podcast are Scott and Jon having a good time being Scott and Jon. I'm not a competition level miniature artist and probably never will be. I don't think there's a very big audience of people who are or even aspire to be that. Especially if you're trying to capture viewers/listeners through catchy titles and thumbnails. So, while the the in-depth miniature art topics are often interesting, I don't think they're the main draw or long-term future of the podcast. They're the reason to get Scott and Jon together to be Scott and Jon. And maybe us mini painting plebs will pick up a some interesting techniques and tidbits along the way.

Scott, I listen every time to hear the insight and philosophical approach to the hobby, its not just background noise. But i adore the idea of art analysis of a one of your artworks. Or about any pro painters or even good painters arts. Squidmar did one where you just breaks down an art piece and that was one of my favorite mini videos. That analysis is what I crave from a podcast.

What you guys are doing is great! Don't change your formula. I love the discussion and the jokes and stories that I have listened to multiple episodes several times. Honestly, I would like to have a podcast episode every now and then where you guys just shoot the breeze and talk about things that excited you. It doesn't always have to be in the hobby, but something that's going on. Let us get to know the real Jon and Scott. You guys are just fun to listen to and I love hearing the stories and jokes. The only thing that I feel like should be changed is instead of always doing a preamble, things you've painted, topic, and news try mixing it up. Maybe just do the preamble, topic, and news. Maybe if there's not a lot of news this week then talk more during the preamble.

I've really enjoyed this podcast since getting back into the hobby - you've got great chemistry together and the freeform chat/news stuff always works well. I wonder if having more guests on would mix things up a little bit, maybe also doing some non-painting/hobby related debates as well? I know I'm late to this but regarding the podcast: I like the banter and how you guys deal with the topics and don't lose yourselves. If my friends and I were discussing the same things that is more or less what we would sound like. Serious with goofy tangents combined with quoted from movies and inside jokes. I think that is the appeal for me besides the content is the way the personalities mesh. As for gifts: I have painted a pink space marine for my wife when we were dating, did some freehand on it, and I'm a better painter now (not by much) and sometimes think about doing another model for her. On the other side of it I have received a painted model as a gift. Long ago before I actually painted and played any war gaming my buddy painted up a warhammer fantasy skaven lord for me. He convinced me to get into the hobby and play skaven because i already have a powerful lord.....and it totally worked! I think its a great way to get some friends into the hobby as well as giving them something cool.

I think generalised topics are great because you guys tend to do a bit of chatting about adjacent topics. You could probably deep dive into games you're playing or whatever that's still relevant. As the show has gone on you guys have gotten more confident with the format so it's gotten more straightforward and I think continuing on that path is the right choice. Just on Scott's concerns about longevity it's a valid concern to have foresight of but I also don't think you need to worry about it too much just yet. I actually *do* listen for the content (admittedly while painting, DIY'ing etc.) and the headline topic draws me. What I value though also is the authenticity, and 'real'ness, of the conversation; talking about challenges, worries, KZbin journeys, life stuff (with the silly/funny asides which I enjoy too). I think you dudes both enjoy having these conversations, and just like Jon said he could sense the enjoyment from the diorama, I sense that enjoyment coming through too. In a world which I felt could be quite disconnected, even before Covid, the sound of your videos makes me feel like I'm in the room and part of the conversation too, and that experience is a very pleasant one. I'd happily listen to changed formats etc. Etc. but in terms of core mission/purpose, 'heart, keep going at it the way you're going at it

If you guys could add a little more into up coming Kickstarters related to paints and materials that would be awesome. My work keeps me from looking into that stuff as much as I would like too. I currently run mainly Army Painter with some Citadel mixed in but I would like to expand my options. Your ideas and methods have helped me to win the second painting contest I entered and tie for first on third one. Thanks guys, keep up the great work.

I like the current set. It reminds me of when I was a radio DJ. But I totally get wanting comfort for 2-3 hours. I like the current format. Yes you are my background when I'm doing other things. Or avoiding other things.

I just want to add my opinion that I like just what you are doing. As Jon said, I enjoy just hearing your opinions on painting. Just listening to you talk about what has happened recently is interesting. My buddy and I have these types of conversations ourselves and it's fun to hear what other people think. I'm not worried about what you talk about. I just enjoy the conversation. Of course, to be fair, I listen as if it's a podcast but actually watch it on KZbin. I agree with Jon. Keep it lite and just talk. compare notes on your feelings about painting. Your personalities are enough to carry it through. I would like to request one thing. As someone who doesn't have a lot of access or to various products and don't know the suppliers like you do, I'd love to hear you review different products, specifically models and miniatures. I'd love to know which are good quality and where to find them.

I love the podcast. I think your discussions about hobby and painting are the best out there. The one thing I think that may be related to the pressure to find the meaty topic and dive in deep is that as the episodes have gone on there has been more of you guys sounding like authorities and maybe feeling the need to talk a little above your level of expertise instead of talking as two funny, smart dudes exploring a topic. Also, I might just be on edge and looking to be annoyed at unimportant things because it’s 2020 and I’ve been stuck in the house for months :) Also for comfortable, sexy dudes is it time for the high backed leather chairs and silk robes in front of a fireplace?

I really enjoy this podcast. I enjoy listening to you guys and I'm always learning with every episode. I think for the future maybe try and get a few more interviews from various painters, sculptors, terrain builders and even just model enthusiasts. Even if it isn't exactly miniatures. What would be cool as well would be some kind of community highlight were people can submit pics of their models and you guys can talk about them. Maybe give some honest feedback or criticism or just to show it off! Hope this gives you guy's some ideas! Cheer's!

So to address your thought about it being background noise, but it's also more. I listen to this while I'm painting & airbrushing, the banter, tangents, jokes, relatable side topics make it fun to just hear. But, between drying times I'll stop and check out a product you mentioned, or an artist you've been raving about. I was really excited to look at the oils as I'm also a traditional oil painter but there was some block in my head that says "Oil for canvas not for minis" I mentioned below Jon made me aware of Atlantis Miniatures, I've tried the Gale Force Nine resin models and had a terrible experience with the fire myrmidon. I tried the Wiz Kid models and they're better than pre-painted models but I really want something up to the top quality, especially for the player and/or boss models.

The episodes with guests were the ones I didn't watch to completion. You guys have a good "some guys riffing" format and sometimes the topic actually gets in the way of that.

Awesome episode! I understand pressure of painting centerpiece model or even a foot hero for an army. At first I was scared to touch my model with paintbrush or airbrush, but I got to say that 1st mini in my Ironjawz army was Megaboss on foot, followed by Warchanter, after that a Megaboss on Maw-Crusher. Painting troops feels like a chore now... So I decided to paint them to lower standard!

Thought for the podcast next year - What about instead of a hard and fast topic, each episode you have a mini (painted or unpainted) as the central topic. So for example, you take a look at a painted mini that one of you saw or draws inspiration from, and discuss the painting techniques that went into it, the color scheme, what it inspires you to do, what would you change, etc? Have each episode have an anchor, a mini, but you guys can keep it organic with the discussion and let the piece take each episode. All of this is after the intro of course.

I feel like if you guys just had the news with your preamble it would have plenty of value It's great hearing about new techniques and products coming out. The longer form episodes are awesome! Especially all the random stuff in the beggining it's a cool behind the scenes!

I'm so happy that Scott called Steamforged out on their bullshit excuse for killing Guild Ball. My wife and I loved the game as it's one of the few that she played. They just could never get their shit together (their metal, no, plastic, no, resin, etc.) and decided to chase the IP KS board game money.

Did a custom Funko Pop for my teenage daughter for Christmas of her favorite marvel character (She loved it) last year. Oddly its a character that doesn't exist in their line up, so I head to do some sculpting and "kit bashing" along with painting, which only made it more special to her. Definitely something lots of ages can appreciate, just try to target whatever you do to what they love.

I would love two things to change about this podcast. 1 Id prefer weekly to everyother week, but I get why its spread out. And 2 Id love it if you had a section where you guys speak about things that inspire your projects.. Hard to make that not sound vague. Otherwise, I really enjoy your back and forth and I think you have it mostly dialed in guys. Keep it up!

I am here for the preamble and random talking in most episodes. Unless the topic is a bullseye like, how to paint 2000 points fast and nice. I watch you guys for the same reason I watch Vince and Tom even though I dislike Age of Sigmar. If I ever leave an episode its the main topic that drives me away. The banter is the best part. Talking just like we do at our LGS late at night.

One more thing: I think the podcast really shines, when you two suddenly leave the ordinary (fun) talk and enter the realm of philosophy, art and personal problems/opinions, seeking new ways and idiologies, challanging the opposite to think new ways... Magic moments! :-) But this happens suddenly and often without a plan (I think), so don`t plan this by leaving out the fun and trash talk - this what makes this moments shine, the difference between them, seeing the clicks inside your eyes/minds.

I'm not sure that I will continue to paint while listening to you guys. It's very dangerous. Like when Jon described his mother coffee table with a naked booby demon lady, I tried to not picture it in my head... but oh man, you know what it's like when you don't want to think about something. And voilà, I saw the coffee table, the tea-pot over the lace doily, the small plate of ginger cookies, a small porcelain puppy next to a huge naked female demon enthroned in the center of the table and two nice elder ladies smiling and enjoying their cup of tea. I immediately burst out laughing and hit my mini with a huge brushstroke in the process. Anyway, I enjoy your podcast as it is, because: - I really enjoy this small precious moments of spontaneity, - and also the fact that you think live. For me, hearing a process of thoughts is more valuable that just hearing a cold conclusion.

I personally feel the discussion on just messing around with paint. I'm prepping to teach a new painter's class, which due to social distancing restrictions, I've been asked to use a limited palette. My test model that I finished the other day, was 50% just futzing around trying out colors, and figuring out how the mixes of paint would act. I'm going to need to do an extra test model so I can figure out exactly how to teach it.
