Mark G - I award you 10/10 for bravery. And I think you did a decent job of it. I like your point about performance and “just be you”, it can be quite hard at times I’ve found.

I went to drummers fantasy camp Aug 22 and Mark was one of four clinicians along with hall of famers Weckl, Phillips & Smith. I think I got as much out of Marks clinic as any. Mostly we talked about swing.

I absolutely could! And because of not being a drummer and not having a career, being banned from every music venue on the planet for life afterwards wouldn't hit me as hard. Now, the real question is, who could sub and still have a career afterwards.

Cool video. 7 ways is definitely talked about often. I listened to it often just to get the count and feel down before even bringing it to the kit. I was kind of hoping you would bring up the duo album of Mark Guiliana and Brad Mehldau called 'Mehliana: Taming the Dragon'. Brings out the electronic-esque and jazz drumming vibes in a whole other way.

Even though this isn't really my cup of tea, I respect Mark G, and you Nate for tackling it. Certainly is easier to try to Xerox someone when you're subbing, rather than bringing the original you. Sometimes some people want you to bring your thing to the table, and sometimes they do want to hear what they're accustomed to. Trying to find the balance can be difficult.. Feediop sounds like a tune that Vinnie would have a field day with (the 7 section, overlayed 4/3, etc..). Well done Sir, you definitely could cut the gig..👍😗

Hey - not a serious drummer perspective here, I'm curious as to why to learn and internalize the 4:3, you chose to feel it out rather than subdividing it into groups of 3 16ths? Is this a result of taking a more jazz oriented approach?

Because I was able to feel it in the right place without "sounding it out", probably due to a lot of exposure. I do recommend people subdivide in order to get it precise, if that's an obstacle. A lot of times with musicians with some existing expertise, a mnemonic like "bart always steals the fucking kale" for 4 against 5 shortcuts the process of, say, writing out a bar of 5 and accenting every 5th 16th note.

oh is he really litigious with the copyright stuff? I love how "fair use" exists as an abstract concept, but KZbin doesn't even incorporate it into their policy - they just assume any use is off-limits and always find in favor of the record companies if you appeal.
