Fun fact, I will forever have Arlo's voice lines from Richie Bromine's dressing room etched into my brain. While working on the Environments I did a lot of playtesting on the levels as I'd go and that also meant listening to the cutscenes over and over and over. Never did I mind it though because of how good Ricky the sock is voiced. Well done fam.

Did you even watch the video? Because Arlo admits upfront as to why he didn't talk about it until this video. He liked there being a little mystery about him VA-ing for the game, undergoing surgery - as well as a prolonged healing process due to something happening in the surgery that resulted in issues with another part of his body, trying to buy a house and the entire process of moving (which, if it happened concurrently or right after the surgery, likely would have made moving that much more stressful and difficult, as he states in the video that he began having neck problems post-surgery while he was recovering because the way the surgeon had him laid out resulted in pain and possibly limited movement in his neck - and because moving house is a time-consuming thing that requires the use of your entire body, that neck injury definitely would've slowed him down and made the move far more difficult), and then his own perfectionist tendencies and self-criticism that many people, both normal and KZbinr alike, possess where we're always fretting about if our efforts were good enough, and for some of us, while we are absolutely proud to participate in something like this, we also actively avoid watching/listening/playing or generally interacting with it ever again because we often tend to hyper-focus on our mistakes that other people might not notice because we're our own worst critics.

@@cannibalisticrequiem While somewhat understandable maybe, it might have hurt sales during the pretty crucial release window. I'm only hearing about the game now and it looks interesting. I want to play it. And I'm sure there are many others learning about it for the first time now too. It's great that we're hearing about it now, but it would have been better for the game and the company if he promoted it sooner. And it's not like he hasn't been making videos for the past year. He even launched a second channel where he's uploading more frequently since this came out. So it's really not that understandable after all.

When I was recording voices with my actors for an animated short we had one guy who it was his very first time voice acting and even though he had killed it during the audition he choked when it came to the actual recording. We actually had to instruct our sound tech to secretly record everything instead of just him saying the lines because he would practice in between takes and those would be the best takes because he wasn't nervous when he was practicing! Fortunately we got what we needed but I would never work with someone like that again. It took 10 times as long to record him as everyone else. So honestly the key to voice acting is to just not be self conscious! The directors hired you because what you did in the audition fit their vision. You already succeeded and you don't need to do anything to prove yourself now. Just listen to the directors feedback! You got this! You rock!!

I'm cynical about "KZbinr Voice Rolls". They are the "animated movie with voices of D-class celebrities" of today. Arlo was type-cast and had surprisingly good chemistry with the actor of Gordon. Good job, no notes. Ricky even has the dramatic reading at the end of the game! I finished MFN within 3 very obsessed days. The game is such a good introduction to classic survival horror. It's PEGI12! I thought I saw blood, but no this is actually kid friendly.

I heard about this game through Game Theory. I remember watching the video, having a a clip play of Ricky and go “WAIT A SECOND WHO WAS THAT?!” Then hearing more of it I was genuinely impressed with the performance. I went to school for acting so now I tend to analyze performances more than I used to. Listening to some of the audio from the climax of the game, I was like “Wow you can really hear the passion in his voice.” So well done Arlo! You did a wonderful job!

I dont know the extent of what you know of the story when you had to voice lines for so much of it, but it is a surprisingly wholesome horror game who's story would probably be right up your alley... if you can get over your own internal critic. XD Heck, if it helps, they animated to the performance, so it would be pretty hard to make a take that would fit so perfectly into the final product as it currently stands. Sometimes, it is those same imperfections that your inner critic screams about that makes it work so well; the objectively "perfect" take loses a lot of the humanity behind it. All of this is just a justification to quiet the internal critic, though, and is often just completely unneeded. You played the role as perfectly as possible.

I played My Friendly Neighborhood back when it was available as a Nextfest demo back in... I wanna say 2022. Back when Ricky wasn't animated and the Sewer was the only area. I took one listen to Ricky and I IMMEDIATELY recognized it as you. There was not a doubt in my mind, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that you did a WONDERFUL job mate. Your performance added SO much to the final product, especially towards the end. You played a major part in making the experience that is My Friendly Neighborhood truly memorable, and I hope you feel proud of this accomplishment.

You did an incredible job, i can safely say it's one of my favorite survival "horror" games, it's a perfect spoof of the genre, it's tropes and game-play while not sacrificing on that gameplay either. But what really surprised me was just how heartfelt and well written the story was, it was more then simply the funny idea of Resident Evil with muppets and the story and characters were a huge highlight for me, and your performance as Ricky really, REALLY nailed that together so thank you for voicing him.

I was unsure initially about his reaction, because he was acting clueless, so I got my hopes up about him saying "wow" meaning he was surprised by how much the voice sounded like him and that it wasnt him but someone else that sounds identical. Honestly Im a bit disappointed that Arlo doesnt have a voice doppelganger, but aside from that, this is really awesome that he got this opportunity. I played quite a lot of MFN when it first came out and had an absolute blast. The entire game was very well made, and Ricky in particular stood out as among the most interesting, well-voice-acted, fun characters in the game. You did a fantastic job, Arlo, and honestly I couldn't imagine Ricky being voiced by anyone else. 🙂

Honestly with how long you were taking to mention it, i was getting worried that something bad had happened during development and you didnt wanna talk about it, quite thankful that that wasnt the case, MFN is great, you are great in it, just a wonderous experience, great to finally hear you talk about it!

You did an AMAZING job! I didn't realize it while watching it before, but when you mentioned a character sounds like you my first thought was Ricky, glad I was correct and could pick you out of the crowd even if it was semi-subconsciously haha. Your performance as Ricky really made the game for me.

This is impeccable timing because i just beat My friendly neighborhood a couple of days ago for the spooky season and now this surprise! I really enjoyed the game. Good job all around really!
