We used to have this until quite recently. I'm a Conservative and all of my friends irl are more left-leaning. But our friendships mean more than our political views, so are able to remain friends. We're middle-aged and it's probably more common amongst GenXers to have differing opinions but still respect each other enough to accept one another as we are. Afterall, we grew up in the political incorrectness, crude humour, insulting each other but still maintaining friends era.

@amazingjason455 how is that a good point? A husband who has desires for other women/affairs can still have sex with and be married to his wife. Refrain from cheating for a heterosexual person just means "don't have relations with someone else, but you still have your wife" But according to Matt's faith, a gay person has to refrain from sex and marriage altogether I.e. no lover/partner for the gay people because scripture says it's an abomination. It's not a fair point to make at all.

That slippery slope that everyone, including myself at the time, claimed didn’t exist came down like an avalanche the minute gay marriage was legalized. The left NEEDS something to push against for “progress” sake, and they came for the kids like they swore they wouldn’t do.

That's right Matt - there were people who came onto the scene in the late 90's/ early 2000's to introduce a mix up of racism. I was in public high school in 1999, and we were all integrated. I'm a white girl, I had a Hispanic boyfriend, and all of my friends were my fellow cheerleaders, who were all different races. These were my FRIENDS. But one day we had an assembly about race, and afterwards, everyone was scared of everyone else. Riots broke out, and I experienced my 1st school lockdown. Days following, we all just walked through the halls with our heads down, alienated from our friends, unsure of who we were allowed to talk to (or not). It was like someone came in and shook us all up and made us believe that we were each other's enemies. Really, the one who shook us up was the enemy.

@@betsybabf748 But it is considered tragic if a child loses a father or mother. I'm sure your children feel that loss or absence of a father in their lives. Children should not be raised by design, by 2 women or 2 men because no matter how feminine a man is or how masculine a woman is, they can not replace a mother or a father. We long for that by nature, not just the masculine role but the Father who is a man. And same for the mother. I think the original comment means we do not have the right to deny a child a mother and father for the sake of people who want kids. We have a duty to give kids what is good for them first. Even with the death of a father, the kids can ask their mom about the dad, and the mom speaks about the dad that she loved, and you get the feeling your mom and dad loved each other/there is a connection even though they're gone. But with a father who runs out on the family, the kids know they weren't wanted by the dad and that the dad didn't have that committed love for their mother and they have to realize that the tradgedy was a betrayal. And with 2 moms or 2 dads who adopt a kid or use surrogacy, it is just treated as a non necessity. The kids have 2 parents so they don't need the mom and dad bond. Kids should have both a mom and dad. The father/son bond is different from mother/son. Same for father/daughter and mother/daughter. It just is different.

I disagree with Jillian about “one black family on tv.” Almost every show I watched as a kid in the late 80’s through mid 90’s were comprised of mainly black casts. I can think of at least 15 off the top of my head. The Cosby’s weren’t even the first, just maybe the first middle/upper class black family on tv. Also, I’m a 40 year old white woman and I’ve been dismissed by doctors since I was an infant. It took 32 years to be diagnosed with celiac disease, which is a very basic test. I delivered 2 babies with no doctors present, because they didn’t believe I was in active labor. I had to beg for an endoscopy for 10 years because I was choking on everything I ate. They told me I was lying and I eventually was diagnosed with an esophageal disease. My son was laughed at by the ER doctor for saying he thinks he has T1D and was literally dying in DKA. He was sent home weighing 67lbs at 12 yrs old, puking his guts out, looking like a literal skeleton. We don’t have a racist healthcare system, we simply just don’t have a healthcare system.

The other day I was walking down the street. I saw a homeless man practicing karate on his invisible opponent. I subtly crossed the street in hopes that the man would not think that I'm the person he's fighting in his mind. This was a white man. I'm 26 in great shape, I think if I fought the homeless man I would have won or got away with little to no damage but I simply wanted to avoid a confrontation. If I were a woman walking I may have been scared. Sometimes race plays a factor but most of the time people are shuffling through all of the options. Sometimes the options are worse with black people, some they are worse with white people. It doesn't make you racist because you want to stay safe. By the way, I'm black.

I went to a watch party of the Harris/Trump debate near UCLA with a room full of Democrats cheering for Kamala. There were only three of us there who were conservatives. One guy tried to talk with a Democrat about the border. She YELLED at him for clapping when Trump said that open borders a problem. I tried to express my respect for RFKJ to another Democrat in the audience... and she became EN RAG ED. "Get away from me if you support Kennedy. He endorsed TR U MP! TR U MP! TR U MP!" She SHUT DOWN the conversation. We NEED conversations like these between Jillian and Matt. If a black man appeared in an alley wearing a suit and carrying a brief case would get a different reaction than a white man in a hoodie with a bunch of tattoos. We aren't talking about stereotypes or profiling. This is about frame of reference. Same scenario, older black man vs. young white man...probably more fearful of the white man. This is not racist. The "marriage" issue is about equivalence. Matt is correct in that there is only one type of two-person human relationship that can procreate naturally: man and woman. Most European countries have gay marriage, not civil unions, because they have figured it out. Just like the act of annulment has two meanings, one in religion and one of a legal sense, so does marriage. A marriage can be recognized in a church but it is also a non-religious legal contract. As a Christian, but also an as attorney, I understand that Christians who want the term marriage to only be their religious use, for all legal purposes, are incorrect. It is one word, no one owns, with is uses in two systems, just like annulment has always been, without issue.

The problem some have is they don't seem to realize that the word "marriage" is used very different within the church and also within the law. No one owns the word, and no religion can claim it can only apply to their use, which is the issue here. As a fellow Christian, I have to say Matt is wrong. Someone can be marrying both in the church and in contract for the law, but those are two very different things. We have always known how to do that, as we have with "annulment". A Church annulment and a legal annulment are two completely different things, but the word applies to both processes, just like with marriage. As a Christian, I know Christians can't say "only we can use and define the word" because the word does not solely belong to us. The word marriage also applies to the non-religious legal contract, and no religion can dictate that.

This is very hard to watch because Jillian is trying so hard to be PC and say everything perfectly that she comes off as very disingenuous. If you like something or not, just say it. This is what I really appreciate about Matt.

@@JillianMichaels "Last several years" is your answer. The party currently in power is all in on stoking racial division and anyone with even one eye open should be able to see that. They are a completely different party than the old "big tent" Democrats. They are so far left leaning that if people continue giving them power this country will fall off the cliff. Stoking racial division is solely meant to divide us. Division =tension, and then unrest. What a field day for the government who then is justified to step in and control the situation. People are incredibly naïve. I recently heard Jordan Peterson do an analysis of Harris and Trump. I was a little surprised that he actually admitted that if he could vote in our election it would be for Trump. He is more centrist, more balanced, more transparent. Harris is talking a good game but she can't B.S. us into believing that she's completely done a 180 from her openly stated radical views. I'm not very political but I want a good life for my family and neighbors. Always important to focus on past track record and policy. Personality shouldn't carry much weight at all. I'd love to see you have Peterson on to go more in depth on the things I've just mentioned. Better yet, get Trump and Harris on. Long form unscripted conversations are absolutely necessary to learn about a candidate and their beliefs. Trump has no fear and would do it. But if you could get Harris that would be quite the coup! But you won't. No failure of yours...it's all on her. Enjoyed this episode. Respectly, J

Blame the woke media for pushing the race narrative constantly, it's just another form of divide & conquer by those in control.

Jillian is awesome. I hope one day Matt realizes it's okay for two women to marry. It's okay for two men to marry too. They're adults who love each other and it doesn't harm you.

At 50:00 Matt nails it… as a dude who practices situational awareness I will absolutely size people up around me regardless of their race. Example… white guy I don’t know who continues to make eye contact or size me up- I’m absolutely going to move to a more tactically advantageous position and create distance. Same thing many aware women do. Why? Cuz people can be bad. It’s that simple.

I want to clarify, cause she brought up polygamy in the Bible.. we need to be able to separate between permission vs prescription on what God allowed, polygamy was endemic in that culture at the time. But this wasn’t his intention, just like gay marriage. We’re all born with vices and imperfections and flaws of our design but can we overcome this nature for a higher Godly level of love? We have free will but are we just prisoners of our nature and passions? You decide..

Re: the dark alley conversation. There’s an incredible book called The Gift of Fear that talks about how women have been programmed to be “nice” to the point where they can ignore their own intuition. It has stories of women who saved their own lives by listening to their intuition and following it. I struggle with this a lot, and this conversation is definitely a big part of why. I am a domestic violence survivor so I have a lot of fear and I would hide from men of every color in every neighborhood including my “suburgatory” neighborhood as I like to call it ;) Even though I am treating people equally, I worry about how it comes across to people of different races because they don’t know that. This whole “how can I be a good person” thing can be very tough sometimes.

The reason you do this in with men instead of women is what? Because you understand that the threat is greater from men. Does it mean you couldn’t be accosted by a woman? Of course not. But you have noticed a pattern and applied it to your life.
@MelanieRicheson

@@Fairdemand554 right. And to take it further… when I look back at the things I allowed to happen to me, I do regret that I was so worried about being kind or being judged that I completely abandoned myself and my safety as a result. I do take issue with telling women that if they are fearful in a moment that they should judge themselves for being scared and not take the instinctual precautions to be protected. If a girl wants to grab onto her mace in her purse while walking through a parking lot at night because she’s worried about someone or something, that’s exactly what she should do.

@@retiredby3570 Do you take issue with the idea that if a woman feels scared in a dark parking lot that they should follow the basic safety principals of what to do in that situation (stay alert, don’t talk on phone, carry mace or personal alarm, etc)?

Tbh, I don’t think gay marriages being a thing is necessarily much of a threat to classic marriage, I think no fault divorce, and the incentives for divorce are much larger threats.
