Am I REALLY a gravel rider?

Hi Leonard, what a nice chilled ride away from the cars - Mike and Julie have some lovely bike routes down their neck of the woods and into the New Forest - plus Mikes Hawaiin shirts are pretty cool!

That’s about as perfect as gravel gets! As a dedicated gravel rider, my trails are a combination of sand, deep gravel, loose gravel over sand, and a bit of pavement to get there. It’s also rolling hills with lots of sweeping turns that are very loose. It works every little muscle to stay on trail. I love it.😊

I love seeing those paths, so peaceful and the lack of cars makes me miss the UK. We use to ride in Thetford forest. We need more paths like that out here in the Arizona desert.

I subscribe to both channels. There is little gravel near me. My aluminum Cannondale Topstone "adventure bike" makes an outstanding conventional touring bike. Nothing revolutionary or cutting edge about it. A 24x34 granny gear assures always not walking. Aftermarket touring wheels with assymetric rims reduce spoke failure likelihood. Even after 1 month zone 2 "pushing " a brush mower over 6 acres has made little difference on average speed. Zone 3 and above though is noticeable. At some point, a hobby must be balanced with home and hearth. Both of you are good blokes.

now you're biking my type of trail :) Ours go from paved roads to paved bike paths (converted rail trails) to gravel paths to twisting turning tree root and rock bike paths. I stay off the latter ones nowadays. I need my bike frame to last the rest of my life although my life might be very short if I try and ride some of those downhill rocky bike paths.

I really enjoyed the MapMen video on what makes a british city. Basically Britain is an odd ball, and has no standard. You basically apply for being a city and the Monarch then decides if you are worthy or not.

I noticed that we require two rear view mirrors on motorcycles here in the US, yet most cyclists rarely find it useful to use mirrors. But they have rear looking RADAR with all of that cost, mounting and batteries. Maybe carbon fiber framed mirrors would sell. But they still wouldn't look cool would they, and that what it's all about... sadly. Nice videos Leonard, come to Indiana we'll have cake and coffee.

I could usually beat the big guys up the hills at 145 lbs. But once the ground levels out it all over for the skinny guys. Seems like they, the big guys don't get depleted as easily while my sugar crashes. What does that have to do with anything? Nothin really. Love these videos.

Feels bad to see some bushes called as a "forest".. looks more like a park. Well, easy to say when actually "living in a forest". And yes, those gravel paths looked to be in better shape than some Real Roads here! Just last Saturday had to turn away from an official (with number on a map), gravel road, because it was totally undrivable with a road bike. Made for me a 20 kilometer extra loop.. gravel on this video would have been a dream compared to that excuse of a road. Thanks Finnish road maintaining budgeting! 😖 About Mike's hawaii style.. well.. perhaps it's a new wave cycling style.. hopefully just passing by.. 😆

@@jollygoodvelo Thanks for a tip! Google in use and.. it's a park! Looks nice with all amenities and.. have a lots of rules. Has even a double decker for tourists to see The Forest with its towns. Could bet that any free wondering off from the ready made paths is out of rules and having a tent night highly forbidden with fine.. (When seeing heard of deer or a moose from kitchen window and almost stumbled with a bear, while picking blue berries, less than 10km from home makes one to think forest differently.) Naturally all "The new" is always something else than "The old". Hopefully Sherwood forest known from tales of Robin Hood still exist.. 😁😜 Anyway gravel paths were nicely maintained and as mentioned; could go with a road bike! 👍

@@jhcycling3098quite a bit of the New Forest isn’t rideable on a road bike. A gravel bike is the best tool for the job. The New Forest isn’t truly a forest. It’s a mix of of forest, heathland and bog
