I am impressed by the old faction style architecture, that seldom to appear in North America. They are only can be spot in cities with decades or thousand years long history. Like cities BeiJing, ShanHai in China. Because just those sculptures can cost a lot of labor nowadays. Very professional!

Yeah, Kazan is one of the most beautiful cities of Russia. The center is gorgeous.. the rest of the city looks like any other Russian city.. I spent a week there a couple of years ago and I was really impressed. Check out the Natural History museum. As for the cuisine, I can recommend to visit one of "Bilyar" restaurants, the quality is quite decent. Good luck! :)

Kazan is wonderful and in the summer it is even better. I was there two years ago and still remember how beautiful it was: The Kremlin and the Mosque; There is also a board walk along the river which is the best river walk I ever seen - and I have been in many places; there is also a building with a tree stuck in it and another one in the shape of a giant cup. Planning to go again soon and explore some of the many places you can go on a day trip outside the city.

how long needs the visit?

@@moats7788 Kazan is a smaller regional capital so 2-3 days will be enough to see everything there. I would: - Day one: visit the Kremlin and the Mosque. Then go to the walking "arbat" street at night - Day two go to the other side of the river by metro and then come back to walk the river walk on "this side" later in the day. - Day three if you have enough budget go to the Tatar old quarters. They have a place there with sort of "reconstructed village" where they have hand made souvenirs etc. and Tatar style restaurant. That would be all if you are a foreigner. If you have an interpreter or know the language you can also take a day trip tour to an island with old monastery and but I don't know if they have English tour guides. They should - so the day trip might be good for day four.

Your airb&b apartment is very close to where I lived in Kazan (I am Kazan native), and where half of my family still lives (the other half lives in Calgary). I visited the city last September, and was very surprised with changes which happened to the city. I must confess that I started loving it more than San Francisco....which became a capital of the homeless people on the west coast. So, have a good time in Kazan. Best regards from California.

4:00 Эта "кружевная подкладка называется "тюль". Слово мужского рода так как это название французского города, где её (пишу в женском роде "её", потому что ткань. Удобно, правда? говори, как хочешь никто не заметит) производили изначально. Вещь не только красивая но и очень полезная, потому что в задёрнутом (закрытом) виде пропускает свет. В комнате будет светло, но снаружи любопытному наблюдателю ничего не будет видно, так как часть света всё же отражается. Это работает как зеркальные очки Сталоне, можешь проверить.)

This apartment isn't Soviet at all, nor does it look like from the 80es. Lots of post-Soviet glitter, 94-style, up to the point of vulgarity the 80es lacks.

@@AlinaMcleod My favorite film! As usual, will see it again on New Years. My first two apartments were like that in the 90s but being 1820's era buildings the ceilings were higher, however, and the walls 1 meter thick. For the last 12 years, I have had a more modern city center apartment in the heart of St Petersburg. The older apartments usually had heavy oriental carpets on the walls, mostly rich colors with red being dominate. The sound and heat insulation properties made rooms seem warmer and quieter than they would normally be with concrete walls. or plaster over brick walls.

I got married in Kazan to a Tatar girl, who I was studying together with in Istanbul. My father's family is mixed Ukrainian Kozak/Polish Tatar and mama's family is Hungarian Jasz from Ossetia with some Crimean Tatar mix as well. Very interesting 2 weddings on 2 different continents!
