Thanks for the video Capt. I must be the one who requested this video before. I started my schooling 4years ago. Then 2years ago, Covid pandemic came. Im forced to survival mode until now. Its good I got my PPL, passed my CPL exams but forced to stop my career since I have a family to feed and there was no opputunity in aviation. Now just watching your video. Hope this pandemic be over soon. Safe skies Capt.

When you made this video I was in the SEVEREST most UNSTABLE part of my illness. Maybe something you would'nt think of approaching. But 4 years later I'm onThe Sick Side Of The Fence! No Delusions of flying as a Commercial Pilot, but HOPEFULLY I am in the process of Applying for The Douglas Bader Disability Flying Scholarship. That's the RAF fighter pilot who shot down Jerry in WW2. Was shot down twice. First loosing his legs, told he would fly a desk. But RAF was so desperate for pilots, and he was Very Experienced. Put back in the cockpit and got shot down again over Europe. Taken Prisoner. At wars end Came back to the UK and ended up flying the rest of his life in commercial Airliners. He was'nt ill as I am. Just missing two legs. THAT SHOULD'NT STOP ANYBODY FROM ENJOYING WATCHING PLANES OR HOPING AND DREAMING TO FLY IN THEM!

Ive done the same thing, started flight training at the age of 17 (minimum required age in the Netherlands), finished when l was 19. Started to apply for jobs everywhere but without luck unfortunately. Then l decided to increase my chances of getting a job by doing a private typerating for the A320. Luckily during my typerating, l met a representative of an airline who was doing their assessments in the same sim center in Holland. l was lucky and managed to secure an assessment with them and got hired as a F/O, based in Istanbul shortly after finishing my base training at the age of 20. Im 24 now and with my second airline, based in Hong Kong. My point is that you're absolutely right about moving to where the job is. I'm from Holland and would love to work there, but unfortunately there are no jobs here at the moment. So l had to move literally to the other side of the world just to be able to fly. Had l been a family man, this would be impossible, also because the salary, though much higher than in Europe, is still being used to pay back my flight training loan, which including the type rating is totaling in excess of 120.000 Euro's.

Very interesting video! I got my PPL license at 35 and some time later I decided to go forward and started my ATPL training. I got my frozen ATPL with good results when I was 41 and then I moved to Oxford to do my MCC-JOC. I've applied to some companies, but most require many flight hours and TR. In Europe I only know about Ryanair that offers a cadet program. Most of my friends were called, passed the assessment, and got hired, but I'm still waiting for a call. I'm afraid this is related to my age and it's a shame, as I know I can do the job as well as some one 10 years younger.

I'm 24, and in my class at university, we have some students in their mid 30’s studying, the eldest is almost 40. Thanks for not killing my dream! To still have a backup plan in case my pilot training and career doesn't work out, I am currently studying aviation engineering at university and want to work in an aviation-related job or in the Air Force before I start the ATPL training. At least if everything goes as planned, I’ll be in my early 30’s. I guess it can also be of advantage when most people would consider you as “too old” for that career. I mean… you bring 10 to 15 more years of life experience in your flight school class and see things probably from a different aspect than your younger classmates.

Well, My first demo I had done in Santa Barbara, CA was when I was just14yo. I piloted a Cessna C-150D. It was FUN, especially only being a child! Then my family fell into poverty as McDonnell Douglas had cheated my dad out of his normal pension of USD2000 monthly to a mere USD120, monthly! Thus I had to place my dream job ever since until very recently onto to the back burner. Now about two years ago I watched a VERY discouraging video on the upper age limit of 65 for the States and for all of Europe for the ATP rating. Then at the end of this one video was stated that there are (were?) 7 countries that did (or hopefully still do) have NO upper age restrictions. I can't remember all of them, but I do remember 5 out of the 7. Namely Australia, Brasil, Canada, Russia, and Surinam. (I wish I could remember the other 2 countries!) Are you aware of this, is it true, or more importantly still true today that there are 7 (maybe less now) countries that are not subject to this 65 year cap? This has to do with whether it would be worth as to pursue my dream, as it has NOT died, as it has become even more 'venomous' the aviation bug now? I have enjoyed your programmes over the years on YT. I had bought 2 shirts, the original 'Positive Attitude' and just recently the red shirt with the yellow warning triangle about a talkative aviation buff! The first shirt had to be cut off oof me in hospital in London for a double fracture in my humerus bone in my right arm as too many tourists 'shoved' me down these century and a half steps at Piccadilly Circus Tube for London station. That is now past history as it had taken me 2 months for that to fully recover. One day i would like to meet you if you are at some future airshow event or the like. Thanks!

Can you make a video on the need for pilots in europe during the coming period of time ( 2022 on ) , if not please share how we can do our own research for that , and if you can explain more about the cadet pilot programs , when it comes to numbers or opportunities and what are the odd of getting a spot in those programs . one more thing , im lebanese would that make it harder for me to compete and land a job in a european airliner . I hope to hear from you soon in a lovely video . thanks a lot

Just ran across your videos and subscribed...good stuff. Question...I am 54 years old and just got a job a few months ago flying charter. I am working on my ATP and have plenty of hours for the rating. I'm just trying to get the money for the ATP-CTP course. I'm trying to build my turbine time and eventually jet time with my current job. I do however have a glitch in my past which is the reason for my question. I was arrested back in 2011 for flying drugs. It was a bad time in my life and I have no excuse. I got 3 years probation and was let off early for good behavior. I've never been in trouble before or since the incident. After withholding my medical and me having to submit 3 letters of explanation AND get a psychiatric evaluation...the FAA saw their way clear to allow me to keep ALL my ratings including my CFI, CFII, and MEI ratings. The company I work for knows about my arrest and the chief pilots comment was..."you seem like a good guy that made a mistake and needs a break. I'm going to give you that break. And he hired me. So my question is this. Although it is very possible for me to have a fairly lucrative career where I fly because there are plenty of airplanes all the way from Cessna T210, King Air 90 and 200's, and even a Citation jet. Having said that it's like you say… The schedule is horrible because you don't find out if you're flying until the day before! Eventually I would like to get on with a major airline or even the "corporate" gig. I know flying is also a lot about who you know. Do you think there's even a chance for me to get a flying job with either a major airline or a corporation? What about overseas? Are their policies on Felonise more stringent? I know that Canada has a policy where they will not admit a felon in but after five years you can get it exonerated by paying a fee and filling out some paperwork. How was that on an international level? Sorry and advance for the long questions… LOL! Looking forward to your response!

Is it not ILLEGAL to ask your age on an application there in Europe? What kind of a terrible place is that? At least here in the US and also in Canada it is ILLEGAL, due to the strict anti age-discrimination laws! I am an older person (will not disclose my age on the forum, for obvious reasons) going through training right now (instrument) and hope to get my CPL, Multi and Flight instructor ratings by the end of the year. Then work for about 1 to 1.5 years as a flight instructor to build the 1500 hrs required to join a regional airline. In my case, I have always dreamed of being a pilot, ever since my first flight as a young kid on an Airbus, and the "feeling of flight", but as many have pointed out, the REALITY OF THE EXTREMELY UNAFFORDABLE COST OF FLIGHT TRAINING, made this an impossibility right after finishing high school. I worked in finance and real estate, a career I was fairly successful at, but got no personal satisfaction from. A year back, I graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and so have something to "fall back on". But you only live one life, and so I decided to make a go for it in aviation! The other thing is, here in the US, there is a severe shortage of pilots in the regional airlines due to the low salaries. So I don't think they can afford to be picky. The fact that I am very fit (go to the gym 6 days a week and eat very healthy), and look a ton younger than my real age, is a big plus too (not that I think it matters anyway, here in the US, due to the shortage, but still).
