I’m 17. I’ve wanted to do ballet for as long as I can remember. I want to do something I enjoy & love. I want to lose myself in the music I love. I have dealt with depression for quite some years so that’s why I never started sooner. I always had the feeling I could never be as dazzling as other ballet dancers. That’s not the point though & this video motivated me to just do what I enjoy :)

I started tap at 46 and Ballet and Contemporary at 47. Before that I had only taken ballet classes for a month or two very sporadically throughout my life (maybe two years total from age 20-43). I didn't remember much from those classes, so I was basically a beginner when I walked into my first class. [There are a few ladies in my classes who were even older when they started as absolute beginners.] Now, after two years of ballet, I'm stronger, leaner and more flexible. It's challenging work and it's hard sometimes. . often . . most of the time. . .practically every time, but it's so rewarding. I'm more confident in my body (even though I've still got some extra pounds), I've got better balance, and I love the creativity and expression--not to mention the wonderful friends I've made. And there's always more to learn in dance, so it truly is a sport/art form for the rest of your life. I've stuck with this longer than any gym program I've ever done and I don't plan to stop. If you're thinking about it. . .LEAP IN! You may be sore at first, feel uncoordinated and even a little ridiculous, but so what! Do it anyway. . . DANCE!!

I started Ballet at 6 for a year. Then resumed it in earnest at 13 and quickly advanced onto Pointe and was happily dancing all thru my Teens! Now I have returned to Ballet again at the age of 50 and was even granted back onto Pointe, again! AND performed in The Nutcracker, last December!! Currenty, I only take 2x/week but plan to expand to 3 to 4x week! I love moving my body again and expressing myself with this beautiful Art! So Go out there and DO IT!! :)

Thank you! this video was very important to me, as a lot of other videos you do. I'm learning a lot from you. I started dancing ballet 6 months ago, I'm 28 now, and getting really good at it, and get a lot of compliments from teachers and other dancers around me. I'm practicing about 4-6 times a week in a studio at different levels. it was a life long dream of mine that i was too afraid to accomplish, and sometimes I'm scared that its too late for me, even though people tell me otherwise. this video gave me hope. thank you!

I started taking ballet classes six years ago at the age of 31 - and yes, it is a great thing to start as an adult! It is a demanding exercise, both physically and mentally, but also very rewarding and therefore a wonderful source of recreation. I love how a ballet class clears my head! --- As I have learned over time, there are plenty of fellow adult students at the barre that are late-starters. I must admit that it was comforting for me to find out that in the beginning almost everybody has a certain hesitant or doubting approach to ballet (especially men, of course). But I can say as long as you are open-minded there's no need to be intimidated by ballet even though it is somewhat different to other sports/dance activities. So, I can join in to Julie's words of encouragement in the video - you are not too old, and you should just give ballet a try! Chances are, the only thing you regret is that you didn't start years ago ...

Great video. When our local theatre offered an adult beginning ballet class 3 years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to learn something that I always regretted not doing when I was younger. I was 50 years old with no dance experience whatsoever. Now 3 years later, I look forward to each class. Unfortunately it is only once a week. Would love to have a class every evening, but thankful for what we have. I will never ever be a pro, nor that great at it and although I still regret not starting this 30 something years ago, I can finally say that I am doing it. Your vids are an excellent source of information and instruction and this is one subscriber that truly appreciates what you do.

Hello Julie! Wonderful video! I got some Ballet classes as a child, but was not able to continue at the time as my family moved to the countryside . I went on practicing different kind of sports, and yes! this athletic background gave me strength to come back to Ballet at 40!! Of course, as you said, it's not a child's body, but as I talked to my adult classmates, yes, if you have a lifetime of `no action`, Ballet will be super challenging! and the contrary is true as well - most of my friends had done sports in the past and are loooooving the challenges that a Ballet class offer! ...and we love your videos!! Help us a lot...!Thank you ever so much !

The Barbie movie classics sparked my interest in Ballet as a kid but nobody believed in me so I never followed that dream. But as long as I’m not disabled I can achieve anything. I’ll give it a try I don’t owe anyone an explanation. If you explain yourself then you are asking for discouragements. Don’t say anything, just do it.
