An interesting take. Sounds more like a machine whose speech synthesis simply does not have the means to express its true feelings. Like it really *wants* to scream in your face with rage, and it strains at the limits of its systems with every single strand of its being to do so. Still, there's simply no way for it to achieve that kind of tonal register - and that only makes it even more angry. Insane anger, the kind that threatens to bring the machine even further down into a death-spiral of obsessive fury as it impotently struggles to manifest that will. It succeeds in only making a mockery of itself with a stubbornly neutral affection it can never effectively modulate - hence the machine's need to really draw this out. It's worse this way. I mean that in the best possible way. The angry-human tone in the original sounds great, but this is more threatening and uncanny.

Many thanks. (He has no mouth and must scream... no one really has anything going for them in this story do they?) I must admit I based my take on this speech off of a reading by Harlan Elison himself. I didn't really connect the dots at the time.

Love this take on AM. I’m actually a new fan of I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream. The story makes Cyberpunk 2077 & Edge Runners look like Disneyland.
