The priest is one of the most under appreciated actors in the movie. He just sits quietly making faces as Salieri talks, but his expressions are important to the flow of emotions as the story unfolds.

My favorite scenes are when it cuts back to Salieri's retelling with the priest. He is such a fan of Mozart he can't help himself. His vocabulary and command of language is so perfect it somehow takes me to the point of laughing with tears in my eyes. He is such a mess but shines brighter describing Mozart than any other time in the film. It is like he was waiting his whole life to finally cry out to God, from his heart, for once.

Exactly...it's like he desperately wants to hate Mozart because he's such a petulant child, but Salieri's true passion is music, and he can't dent how incredible Mozart is with it. He's at once unbelievably jealous and in awe. Incredible acting on both parts, but especially Salieri's...particularly the subtle expressions of emotion as he reads through his music and tells the priest about it.

Well, it really is filled with so many inaccuracies in order to entertain. Nearly all great composers of previous ages had fascinating lives, filled with enough intrigue, humor and passion without the need for total fabrication. Like Immortal Beloved or Impromptu. Hollywood manages to trivialize, sexualize and dumb down most histories. I loved Amadeus as a young man, but thankfully I understand the differences between total entertainment and history. Many walked away from the play and the film mis-informed. Entertained, but sadly mis-informed on Mozart, Salieri, Vienna and the entire true and fascinating stories of these people and this era.
@thomashogan165 жыл бұрын
The most beautiful scene in this film is when Constanzia brings Mozart's sheet music to Salieri, who then sight reads it in his mind. In shock, he drops the music to the floor and leaves for another room and throws a crucifix into the fireplace declaring, "Now we are enemies!" My heart stood still when I first saw this.The whole movie then made sense.

Suzanne Murphy (the soprano singing the aria) is FLAWLESS. Other sopranos specially in the highest notes of the score become lazy and just make one continuous sound rather than proper form. This woman on the other hand hit every single note with precision and grace. Truly my favorite soprano of all time!

Mozart singing his opera along with the performers as he conducts is wonderful. He's like a child playing with his new toys on Christmas morning. Compare this to his visible emotional pain later in the film as he conducts Don Giovanni.

OH, YES! He's wildly pumping his fists and grinning ear to ear during "The Abduction from the Seraglio"! And the way he's meeting lustful eyes with Caterina Cavalieri during it... Most of us know Hollywood takes artistic liberties. I think that the wig is a nod to the modern hair styles that were popular at the time (1980's). It reminds me of the new wave band members hair. A flock of seagulls comes to mind. Mozart was young and very forward thinking. I think he would approve of a pink wig and probably enjoy modern times if he were to time travel. Sorry to ramble on. A timeless movie. Indeed a scene that drew us toward the spirit of the times. So many of the key actors/actresses seem to be present in some form of another. All of them at their best. And the best part....there's been no film since to top this in it's genre. Why? Because every Director and Producer knows it can't be eclipsed. "LOVE GOD!"

Christine Ebersole, actress from SNL, even though was a great a singer in her own right, was probably lip-syncing in this scene but she deserves an Oscar in this movie as a believable performing opera singer.

A great film, if historically inaccurate. If it was accurate, it would have been a film about Mozart and Salieri having a friendly rivalry marked by mutual respect and admiration. They would also have had something of a bromance going later in the film. It would have played like a long episode of "The Get Along Gang," and who would want to see that? :)

Murray Abraham’s acting on salieri’s jealousy is perfect. I can feel his seeting anger and admiration. Which just turns into frustration. Those feelings are familiar to me and others so to see it acted out blows my mind.

We are all a bit of a priest, Mozart's fans, who listen breathlessly to Salieri, who is just showing Mozart's dark side, comparing himself to him and, as a result, underestimating, which leads to his bitterness, jealousy and hatred towards Mozart and himself ... And it's basically this whole amazing film that will surely change your view of Mozart but also of Salieri.

This is one of my favorite films. Class always music is my guilty musical pleasure. Especially this scene's music because of them tempo and passion that Mozart put into this.

Bottomline - noone knows where he is buried. No place to bring flowers to and commemorate him. This is what saddens me. Thanks for the info, though.
