@Robert Moots I'd think attack because it's a speedrun But from my experience, you need the right balance between raw and element. Less element and more raw kills fast but might not get past the threshhold. Tons of element at the cost of damage gets you easily past it but the fight might take too long and you can't stop the third nova. Try and push the set a little more to the elemental side (more elemental awakenings for example) if you can't get past the elemental damage check.

The reason why is because they think “hunting horn? That doesn’t sound strong compared to great sword or other weapons.” Not only that, but some people think that hunting horn is a straight support weapon when in reality, hunting horn is just a hammer mixed with a charge blade. I say charge blade cause you can buff yourself with mindeye so your weapon never bounces. I think maybe if people gave the horn a chance, then they would love it. I play DND and I love to play bards so when I saw hunting horn, it stuck out to me instantly and I was like “a weapon where I hit monsters with instruments?! THIS WAS MADE FOR ME!!!”

@@wallacesousuke1433 late but yes. You can get some unreal DPS numbers. Say you have 3 charged up and each hit for 150 each. That 450 damage. Add in the encore which combines all 3 again which would be another 450 not counting the hit damage from activating the melody AND the hit damage for encore. Plus it hits for Stun/KO damage too. Good for monsters that has long knockdown times. But best bet is to just save only two then encore them. Or you can just Heavy Slam into Spin which does significant damage too.

Fun fact about hunting horn, that handle stab does cutting damage. This means you can cut the tails off monster with a hunting horn. I wouldn’t recommend it cause.....it’s kinda pointless and if your trying to cut the tail off a monster....use a different weapon cause that’s not horns job. Horns job is to be a better hammer and carry the team to victory.

The head is a very high hitzone. If a hitzone is high, you'll get less from tenderizing. In this case, Alatreon's head is 85 and it goes to 88. If you want to tenderize, it's better to focus on the forelegs. This is a TA wiki rules run. In this ruleset, wall bang, mantles, palicoes are banned. Thanks for the kind words !

@@Doos this is an amazing piece of info. I did it solo on hunting horn but it took me 30 minutes...terrible. I get slapped around so much when trying to soften him. And he stays so long in the air on my hunts. This video makes me aim to be better. Will try it again this weekend! I also don't understand his dragon explosion. In a lot of videos I see people near him and not get hit. how to do this? Talking about his attack at 3:57 and at 7:00 minutes

@@Doos Thanks for the reply, I thought if I (or You, for that matter) consistently hit the head, the little extra damage adds up. Especially if I wallbang, I get the bonus softened spot damage. Also softening procs WE and allows for easier Masters Touch uptime. Do You tenderize in Your casual hunts? Do You even hunt casually :D Do you recommend softening for advanced, but not nearly speedrun level, players?

@@Zatsumaster Alatreon here is a specific case. Usually hitzones are not that high.I explained above why I don't tenderiize this monster "specifically'. For all the other hunts on my channel, you can see that I tenderize. Tenderizing is still the way to go. And this is a specific speedrun. In regular hunts, tenderizing the arms is very useful.

@@Gimmershred Late, but the dragon explosion is possible to dodge through, especially if you have Safi gear for the evade window extender. That's how most people get through it unharmed. But from this video it looks as if the ice walls actually block the damage. I'm not sure if that's the case, as I've never experienced it or read anything about it, but his positioning during the first explosion looks very intentional to protect himself while still being able to attack.

Very nice run! BTW what do you think about the Alatreon's HH for this run? It is dragon element, yes, but it looks promising with how much dragon it has coupled with element up songs and a nice chung of purple.

It's not a good option here when you can match the correct elemental weakness and deal more damage. Besides, Alatreon's dragon values are pretty bad. It's a good elemental horn for dragon weak fights, but Alatreon is not one of those.

Why did you attack his head when he first time casting thunder attack, but turning to attack limbs instead of head at the rest thunder attacks? isn't it keeping attack head better? By the way, I was waiting for a HH speedrun to break into 10 mins, you did a really great job. I can hardly imagine someone can do that, my personal record is 17"24"75. Late reply but I have 20% extra affinity to make up for the lack of tenderizing. If the part you attack is not tenderized, weakness exploit only gives you 30% instead of 50%. You're missing 20% there and since I don't tenderize as much, I went for this. The 10% you're speaking of is probably from agitator. I didn't want to rely on a situational skill all the time. The extra affinity is appreciated but it was mainly for the raw boost.

Weaking depends on how "tough" the part of the monster is, the "tougher" the part, the more you get out of a weakening (and the "softer" a part is, the less you get out of it); but since Alatreon has pretty good hitzone values on the head and the forearms you dont need to weaken it

Phobio that’s not entirely true. It’s more about alatreon having a bunch of moves that will kill you (with rocksteady) or knock you off wich in both cases doesn’t lend itself to speedruning

Both Phobio and Omega are right in parts. Alatreon has some hitzones good enough to the point where you don't really need to maintain tenderizes to deal good damage AND the openings to CC are better used for quicker punishes than for risking a wounding attack.

That's what I thought at first but now I've realized that Ice mode is better. Less aggressive and you have more windows to punish it compared to fire mode. For fire mode alatreon, I would use the same build as here, except you would swap the element to ice.

I wouldn’t go for dragon element at all meinem because you have a 2 star advantage at most but the dragon waves themselves are useful during his dragon active state. For the shockwave I belive the second one he does in dragon active mode either has a Tiny hitbox or none at all since I have „dodged“ through it many times with different timings.

1. Alatreon has terrible dragon hitzone values so most of the time the impact echo waves will out dps the dragon ones and do the extra K.O. damage on top of that. 2. The shockwave that alatreon sends out when he's shifting elements has a super small hit box. It just didn't hit him.

I just positioned myself to avoid the attack. This specific shockwave during the dragon mode transition is very easy to avoid if you stand right in front of the head. Not too close though ! Dragon echo wave scales mainly with raw damage, and it does not care about your weapon's element. In fact, it uses a fixed amount of dragon. So your dragon horn's element doesn't actually do anything for the damage. This is why dragon wave works better on raw HHs with AuxL. It's your primary way to boost the damage (weird, I know).

@@Doos Okay, so the shockwave really is smaller than it seems (rolled through it quite some times but never tried spacing correctly). Actually like Kirins chargeup where you can still hit him with a overhead smash. I knew that the dragon echo wave scales with raw (not much, I think 0.3 or so?) and AFAIT it also scales a bit with dragonattack decorations. I mainly asked since Alatreon has a 2 star weakness to dragon in dragon-active mode and I thought the dragon waves might be an alternative to the impact waves for the fight, but as others pointed out already that impact echo waves are the way to go (also as others already said, amazing hunt, good job)

Heard someone said if you are using kjarr HH (the ones that have ele resist songs, haven't tested it myself) that you supposedly end up with almost the same amount of element, but keeping up so many songs up can be a pain in the butt (same HH will also have to keep ele attack up and ele effectivness up at all times along with usual self-improvement) but I could see it being used as a comfy variant vs future AT elders for sure

Nickz Do you have the source for this? I'm pretty interested in the difference. I know that AuXL is way higher damage than EAB, but I'm not actually sure if AuXL affects elemental damage itself due to how it works. *Anyway, to answer the original question, run the song-list regardless of the damage boost. This is because it has Blight Negation and elemental resistances that are integral to keeping teammates alive, paired with the bubble effect that adds and buffs both elemental damage and resistances. In my personal experience, I've had much more success with that song-list than anything else that provides AuXL. And I mean out of like 40 Alatreon hunts, some using Safi's Attack Melody III, and others Elemental Melody IV. To answer the question specifically, I'm not sure if the damage discrepancy between AuXL and EAB+Effectiveness Up is marginal or significant; even so, I recommend Elemental Melody IV because ALIVE teammates do much better elemental damage than those who cart or have to constantly heal. Also consider that Elemental Melody IV has Echo Wave Dragon, which does elemental damage too, though I think Attack Melody IV technically has this too (not that you'd use it as much as the Echo Wave spinning attack to apply elemental DPS anyway). Some people run Alatreon armor for this fight also (something I'd suggest you do) so Blight Res Up (L) doubles as both an offensive and defensive statistical increase. *Note: If you do plan on taking Elemental Melody IV though, then just invest in Alatreon's Revival Hunting Horn. It uses this song-list, except it excels in dragon damage compared to every other Hunting Horn in the game, which is exactly what you need if you want to hit the threshold to weaken Escaton Judgement. TL;DR I don't know if it "significantly" increases the elemental damage, but it DOES increase elemental damage on top of having other necessary support skills for this specific fight, so definitely use a horn that has the Elemental Melody IV song-list.

@@NicholasThunderX Do not spread this misinformation anymore. Auxl gives far better damage, but it doesn't affect Element in any way with the sole exception being bowguns. Bowguns elemental damage is based off their raw attack so they may gain more from Auxl than element boost.

Azi Steel I think its my fault that I didnt make it clear, I mean the damage output from auxl boost is higher than elemental boost regardless on raw or elemental dmg. On the other hand, elemental boost does give higher elemental damage but the dmg dealed is lower than auxl boost
