Sadly many of these families need to sell their homes due to high maintenance costs and increased land tax. In this episode they got a maintenance fund which doesn't always happen so they got lucky I guess. I hope they are in a position of being able to afford it long-term.

I am the same i am always there for my family and they are my life even though my family wasn't there for me. This family has all the love anyone can give and the sister to take and look after her brothers and love is a blessing and i wish others like her were everywhere. The way they dealt with asbestos is shocking for someone watching from the UK, where the whole neighbourhood would be warned, alarmed, and panicked. They would put up a huge tent around the demolition site and slowly remove the hazardous materials whenever the workmen found time between tea breaks and felt like doing their job. This doesn't feel like the other side of the world; it feels like a completely different world!

I've read that as well. The new homes push the property taxes beyond their reach; they lose their dreams and homes and wind up as renters. It's why I so rarely watch one of these uploads, because it's painful to watch knowing the outcome. The shows reaction has basically been "not our problem". People don't realize the outcome when they watch these episodes. The host of the show doesn't really give a crap, he's in it for money.

Most of those who moved lost them not because of taxes but other reasons. reality is even if the taxes went up most got most if not all of their mortgage paid off. They could have simply put the money of their mortgage payments towards property taxes and still had a lot to spare. Numerous reasons many of them left. And those who did, got huge amounts of money and could buy a great house. Most of these people paid mortgages on houses about fall down, and would never have been able to sell to have something safe

Loved thay they got what they deserved but i kind of feel sorry for the dad ... it was his family home originally and i believe they should have kept something of the original house.. i could see it in his eyes when they did the demo .. he looked sad..but he also wanted what was best for the family

I live in a house from 1810,made of bricks and made a little more modern in the 60's,my wallpaper needs attention,but thats it. This makes me so sad,that people live with children in a ruin,wood is only for log cabins,not a real house....

I think in America are millions of families in similar situations. Why spend so much money and extreme luxury on just a few families , while with the same amount of money hundreds of families could be helped out of their misery. I can tell this house before the makeover looked like a dream house to me compared with the house where I live. And they tear it down just for TV fun.
