I think he’s trying to be a good friend but his best friend is struggling with something that he can’t understand himself. He wants to keep her safe and wants to be by her side but with her episodes and reckless nature it can be difficult for him. But Wooly tries to because Amanda is his best friend and he wants the best for her. He isn’t done with her but he’s just confused and worried and doesn’t know what to do.

So what I have figured out is Amanda the Adventurer started as an IRL kids show (with Rebecca as Amanda) and Hylem (forgot how to spell it) is a company that refers to a mythical town where they would kidnap children/make kids disappear. There is a tape where Rebecca signs a contract, basically giving her entire life away. She's found by her dad Sam, reading words that are indirect demon names. Baa lamb (Balam) Pie man (Paimon) etc. Sam finds her and wants it to stop... he goes missing.. aka company killed him. Rebecca's soul is trapped in these tapes even though she is actually buried. Really interesting and sad game. Hope there's a part 2.

The lonely cat in the cage represents Amanda. When you choose to help the cat in the cage, you're really helping Amanda, which is why that choice results in her successfully taking you into the game (presumably killing you).

It feels like to me, how Wooly acts makes him feel like he’s some kind of guardian or friend put into the game to keep Amanda entertained and docile. She’s nice to him sometimes, others she’s splicing him open. Regardless, Wooly has some kind of a mind to his own, and tries to keep Amanda happy with the Birthday cards and also his reaction to the mention of Sam. Interested to see how else they may interact!

@PassTheUniverse Alternatively, the reason why he prefers to stick to the script could be because he wants to protect the player. Hameln is the reason why Rebecca's spirit is presumably stuck in the tapes, killing/dragging children in them with her or whatever she does. I feel like if Wooly were working for them, he would be in support of that, rather than going out of his way to warn the player against watching the tapes. His character really is intriguing though. I personally think he is meant to be the guy that you play in in the woods from the demo, when he's supposed to burn one of the tapes but some force compels him not to. I'm pretty sure they have the same voice actors too, because when he took the phone call he sounded a lot like Wooly.

i dont think sam is the piper but maybe the company is itself luring kids, thus explaining why the tapes were more mature themes after the disappearance of sam (also why rebecca was by herself signing forms). hamlin is not only leading the kids, but it seems they led sam to believe they were doing a good deed for him by giving him a platform in order to spread his tv show, but when sam was rejecting their ideas (hamlins idea of potentially using rebecca for ulterior motives) they got him out of the picture.

ManlyBadassHero posited in his playthrough that Wooly seemed to be Amanda's "handler", and I'll go further: If Amanda is Rebecca stuck in the tapes, Wooly (considering his reactions to stuff like Amanda saying you sound just like him when he bleats and how terrified he seems in the same tape) may be in the same situation, albeit voluntarily, as a security by Hameln. And What's a Family seems to be Amanda managing to put Wooly out of commission to finally ask us to help her. Which is... SO SAD. Edit: Spelled Woolie instead of Wooly

I wonder if the security guard at 16:01 is supposed to be our glimpse of Woolie's human form. Perhaps an element of irony there, as the guard is bald, but it seems like a strange little detail to put in there otherwise. Woolie seems like his goal is either to keep up the cheerful facade or keep Amanda from like realizing/remembering what actually happened in the real world before. At first, Amanda’s friend was Kate but Woolie tries to discourage her from sending something to her and/or remember her name. Then when she knows something bad happened to Kate (Maybe remembering something that the company did to her since she’s was investigating), Woolie tells her she’s confused and convinces her (and Riley) that he’s the friend she wanted to send something to, making Amanda forget about Kate. I think this is why everything changed to the meat store (she subconsciously rejected accepting Woolie as the friend and used her powers, which is why she couldn’t change it back), and why she didn’t want to go to the meat store (She sees Woolie as her friend and knows going to the meat store is a way to get rid of him). You also see Woolie being against answers that give lore tapes (like when you put Sam instead of rooster). I do think in What’s a Family, she realizes that Woolie is trying too keep her down (which is why she singles him out as an animal and gets rid of him) and uses that as a chance to ask for help though she’s still confused. Woolie might also be trying to escape without alerting the company which is why he tries to stop Amanda from openly asking for help and does it more secretly at the beginning of tapes. In the second accidents tape, Amanda is probably angry at Woolie for tricking her and he tries to ask for Riley to believe that he’s not actually the bad guy. I think Amanda is honestly angry and confused about her memories and emotions because of Woolie (which is why she’ll attack you near the beginning) but is actively trying to ask for help by the trying to get Riley’s help by the end (which is why she attacks if you say no to her secret). I’ve only seen this and Jack’s playthrough but that’s what I got from it. 😅

SPOILERS I was always under the impression that the company Hamelin was the pied piper itself. I believe that one of the tapes portrays that Rebecca is told to say some strange things (under the guise of practicing for voice acting) that some people think sound like demon names (Baal, Belial) to summon the demon thing we see in the bad ending. When Sam finds out, he is furious. He abandons the show entirely and tries to prevent them from taking away the light of his life, his daughter, from the project, but the company “disposes” of him (hence his disappearance), and overtakes the show entirely, creating these haunted tapes as Rebecca is slowly infected by this demon Hamelin has summoned.

I think helping the kitten is a trap Amanda planned for the kids. First she ask you if you would help the lonely kitten (which is also a representation of her, but thats beside the point), if you say yes she will start smiling, like, she now knows that you, a kid, would want to help the kitten. So then the next tape she takes advantage of that and tries to make you feel bad for the kitten so you HAVE to help her. And you can notice it too by the way Amanda talks "Oh no, it might die if no one helps", she is trying to make the kids watching this WANT to help the kitten, so then you say yes again, that you want to help her. And what comes next is another way to force the kids to want to help the kitten: the tape will freeze in the image of the cat trapped in the cage with the sounds of the kitten on loop (in the game if you dont click it, nothing will happen, you cant even pause) making you feel even worse and worse until... as a gullible kid, you get close to the tv to "help" the kitten... and thats it, you fell into her trap and you get trapped in the show... trapped in the meat store, just like what happened to Riley in the game. Thats maybe why Amanda doesnt like to go to the meat store, she knows that everyone that she trapped are there.

Me too. I'm pretty indifferent with most horror games, because they are just unexpected jumpscares, but this one makes you feel scary vibes even when there are no jumpscares except a few ones. Both dolls (the one in the tape and the one in the couch) made me really uncomfortable and I was waiting for a jumpscare that never came, so it keeps you waiting for it.

so out of curiosity and mild frustration that Mat didn't recognize the symbols as alchemy symbols, I decided to do a little digging and hunt down the meanings, compiled for your amusement: Red - Sun/Gold Orange - Mercury/Quicksilver Blue - Venus/Copper Beige - Verdegris (Copper salts, basically what gives copper rust its color) Potato - Moon/silver Lilac - Mars/Iron Yellow - Jupiter/Tin Purple - Saturn/Lead Pale - this one as far as I can tell doesn't have a direct match but is very similar to the symbol for Antimony Pink - Neptune/Bismuth Red through Purple (minus beige) are the seven planetary metals. The goal of alchemy is to create the philosophers stone, which can turn lead into gold and give eternal life. Honestly the dev probably just chose the symbols because they're cool and esoteric but idk food for thought.

I love this game, and I spent a couple of hours making a theory: So basically, Amanda the Adventurer (ATA) was a simple but enjoyable concept invented by Sam Colton, with his adopted daughter Rebecca as the star of the show playing Amanda herself. Make note that it is quite likely that the character Wooly was not in play yet, since it wouldn’t be possible to have a talking sheep in the phase of ATA where it was a live action TV show. However, as the show gains popularity, Sam is approached by Hameln Entertainment (Spoken about in the purple tape on the coffee break - “I’ve [Sam] actually had some people [Hameln Ent.] approach me about it. They say they want to turn Amanda into a cartoon”. It is evident that this is the case, as seen with the cartoons that our character, Riley, is able to watch and interact with. However, it appears that Hameln entertainment has some sort of darker secret, some other motive. I believe that they want to make ATA a fully interactive TV show, where the children of the audience can basically choose their own adventure, as such. However, this appears to impossible without some form of otherworldly intervention, which is why they start to make Rebecca say Demon names in the Green tape (Baa Lamb -> Balaam, Pie Man -> Paimon, Baa Yell -> Bael), in order to possibly channel some sort of demon inside of her so that she can basically make all of Hameln entertainments wildest dreams for the show come true. Sam eventually intervenes with this (“I want this to stop”), but the director pushes, basically making them “Take 5” before returning to the script again. Hameln entertainment most likely saw Sam as some sort of threat or obstacle in getting the demon inside Rebecca, or maybe his death would’ve sparked extreme emotions that would allow her to become possessed, which is why they killed Sam. This is confirmed in the Blabbot Voiceline ‘Send my condolences to Kate’, implying Sam is dead. Sams missing story is shown all over the news (Red tape), Which is the point where I believe Rebecca truly becomes possessed by the demon, and is connected with Amanda in the show. This is evident with the “Change in subject matter”, where the voxpop shows that Amanda has been saying strange things like “Mommy and daddy aren’t always right”, attributes that were not evident beforehand. This is the tipping point, the time where the demon truly starts to take control of the show. I feel that they lull the children into a sense of calmness and sort of hypnotism, as seen with Laura in the Orange Tape. Then, they take their victims and make them an object, building or creature in the show (Butcher meat Ending) . But how does this account for the open door? Simple. The demon can take a physical manifestation of sorts, seen in the Bad Ending where Riley is taken by Demon Amanda. The Demon entered through the front door and took Laura with them into the TV show, which explains why Amanda knows Laura’s favourite Ice cream flavour. The physical demon idea is also backed up when Amanda says “I’m out there. Somewhere”. But how does this explain why Amanda says she sometimes feels herself rot? I feel like this is most likely because Rebecca’s actual body is decomposing and rotting away somewhere, and Rebecca’s soul is still attached to this body. Finally, the raincoat person. I fr dont have any idea who this is, but it would be probably be Kate. P.S. There are three things I forgot to mention: 1. The lonely kitten: This most likely symbolises Rebecca after Sam went missing, once again alone and scared for her life. When you answer “No” to helping the kitten, Amanda twists into her demon form, most likely similar what happened to Rebecca. She is so terrified and sad about not helping the kitten because this is precisely how she felt around the time of the Red tape. 2. Woolie: Who is woolie? I think that it is Sam Colton. It sounds weird, but it does seem plausible. Woolie is always trying to make sure Amanda doesn’t step out of line, and is always making sure that no sensitive subject matter comes up from Amanda. It sounds weird, but basically Woolie and Sam share similar character traits. And for people who think Woolie is Amanda’s brother because she says “Grandma” instead of “Your Grandma”, you can still talk with your FATHER and call them “Grandma”, further proving the point that Woolie is Sam’s soul. 3. I don’t know if I said this enough, but basically Amanda is a manifestation of the demon channeled inside of Rebecca. Which is why we see the childlike innocence and sentimental moments such as “Something bad happened [Sam’s death]” where Amanda appears quite sympathetic, especially when it is Woolie’s birthday. But then again, the demonic monstrosity has larger control over Rebecca, meaning that Amanda is more often seen as an evil psychopath than the charming innocent young girl who has “always seen the world with such kindness and joy”. Long story short, Amanda is an amalgamation of Rebecca’s innocence, and a demonic evil that absorbs children into the show to become animate objects in the show (The Butcher Ending), and Woolie is Sam Colton Reborn.

I'd like to see if something happens if you answer "Kate" when Amanda asks you what the opposite of alive is. Also interesting how the cats situation is the same as Rebecca's, and when Amanda asks you if you want to help the cat, who is trapped in a cage (=if you want to help Rebecca, who is trapped in the tapes) you get sucked into the vhs and become another inanimate object with eyes like the other people that went missing. Makes it seem like Amanda is planning something by collecting souls instead of just doing it for funsies (or Rebecca is just feeling lonely like the cat and wants as many people within the tapes as possible). Last but not least, I feel like there's more to unpack with "silly mister fox". Every other animal we saw in the videos is related to a real person (cat is Rebecca, Rooster is Sam, Wooly is it's own personality) and the fox with the bear trap and the way Amanda spoke about it really threw me off.
