I think the fear of 'imposters' might be related to not knowing who might mug you, kidnap you, murder you, or just be someone that may intend to do harm to you in any way. There's kind of been a big rise of concern regarding people that do awful things, and there's no visual signs of who may be that type of person. Things like Mimics play off of that fear of not knowing what someone's intentions truly are. That's my theory of how it may be related anyway. Kind of a "Anyone you know could be replaced by one of these things at any time, and you'll probably never know until it's too late" idea that gets put in your head.

Seeing the Harvester and its tendency to not go after smaller prey is interesting, and I don't think it necessarily means this organism is intelligent (at least not in the human sense of the word) and thinking these things through. It makes me think of Venus flytraps: They don't snap closed the second anything brushes against them, but rather, it's been determined that they can actually 'count', and they'll only snap closed when something brushes against them a certain number of times in quick succession. This way, they're less likely to expend time/energy on something that ends up being a false alarm. tl;dr it may just be that natural selection chose for the Harvesters that had the systems in place to go after bigger prey while ignoring smaller things (but that doesn't make it any less interesting).
@Laura-bs2hw Жыл бұрын

The alternates, robot-humans, mimics kinda indicate a fear of "what is humanity" to me. It's this fear of "does being human even matter in the face of things that can so easily mimic what we do? To PERFECTION?"

Yes!! Practical effects heck yeah! I love when practical effects are used and it's rather sad that they aren't used a lot anymore. Two of my favorite practical effects of all time have to be the giant mechanical trex used for the first Jurassic Park film and the raptor puppet/animatronic that is used for the 3rd Jurassic Park.
@johannesjuhlnielsen9309 Жыл бұрын

@Thatonenerd88 Жыл бұрын
I love the practical effects especially in this video and the trimming pet care video but in the other mimic video it makes me sad to say it doesn’t look as good. The face and hands still look great but it’s a person in a costume and mimics are supposed to be tall and super thin which is just somthing human bodies don’t do as dramatically as them. I do wish in that moment it looked better

It'd be an interesting monster concept if a Monster had foldable telescopic bones so it could grow/shrink itself and hide in small enclosed spaces like sink cabinets and kitchen cupboards and slowly leech,absorb and replace body parts of the host while creating more of itself

31:10 It honestly helps me to know that it was a prop. Mainly because I can just imagine them going “ well how do we shove the head into the camera?” “LETS JUST DROP THE HEAD ON THE CAMERA” cause when you go frame by frame it really does look like that. Great jump-scare though!

Honestly when it comes to the mimic protection thing...? the fourth one makes a lot of sense to me; because you would seem small, and the screaming kind of reminds me of the trimmings! So perhaps that; with calling other people to you, would make the mimic stop for a second.
@hiitscupid3504 Жыл бұрын
i like the fact that this just feels like nature like... the reason the mimic is so terrifying to us is because humans live where there are no natural predators for us. nothing HUNTS humans in this day and age. thsi just seems like nature doing weird stuff (which it already does) and we're just not on top anymore.

Canines are for gripping and tearing, incisors are used to cut. Mimics swallow whole chunks of meat when eating, so tearing or chewing isn't as important for them.

32:00 I really like the show Bewitched and all the practical effects they do there. Sure you can kinda tell where the wires are or that they just played a cup breaking back in reverse, but it's still rather convincing. I feel like I really appreciate how and when they use magic like that in that show because they had to get really creative about it. There wasn't any CGI to render whatever they wanted after filming.

I have a theory: The first four carni's (crawl, trimmings, meat snake, mimic), are imitations of natural things. The crawl can be viewed as ivy, the trimmings as raccoons, the meat snakes as snakes, and the mimics as humans. But the rest of the carni's after the mimic don't really work.
