This song never fails to make me feel better. It's a reset. "Everyone you love is going to die" is hard to hear, but it's also somehow comforting. It's like saying "These are things that you cannot control. Accept them and embrace them." That idea is relief for this control freak. I need to be reminded that there ARE things outside of my control and that my repeated efforts to change that are detrimental to my mental health.

My baby cousin died November of 2022. She was four days old. She was so beautiful, in her white coffin, with a crown of flowers around her head. We said the Holy Mass for her, it was one of the most surreal experiences I've ever taken part of. Afterwards, her father and his brothers carried her casket out to the gravesite. Everyone followed, nobody made a single noise. Not the children, not the animals, not anything. There was frost on the ground, the sun was just coming out again, and there was such a.....starkness to everything. We then gathered around the grave as the priest blessed it. Total silence. She was lowered into the ground, her tiny little coffin. The immediate family members sprinkled holy water over her. Her father began to bury her - and his little son, my baby cousin's brother - started pushing the dirt to help his daddy. And I smiled then. She was due around Christmas, but was born premature, and couldn't survive this world. She's a Saint now, and she is so loved to this day. I have a picture of her in her daddy's arms, right before she passed. I never even got to meet her when she was living, but she'll always be in my prayers. I love her so much.

Lyrics: everyone's too scared to open their eyes up But everyone's too scared to close them Everyone's frightened they don't know what's coming But everyone's frightened of knowing Everyone's reading the rules of engagement And everyone's starting to doubt them Everyone's reaching to put on a seatbelt But this kind of ride comes without them I want you to think of me sitting and singing beside you I wish we could meet all the people behind us in line The climb to the crest is less frightening with someone to clutch you But isn't it nice when we're all afraid at the same time? (chorus) And it's just a ride It's just a ride And you've got the choice to get off anytime that you like It's just a ride It's just a ride The alternative is nothingness We might as well give it a try Everyone's terrified that they'll be justified by the collapse that will happen Everyone's placing their bets just in case The whole thing's a profound disappointment Everyone's trying to stay on the side where the water's just boiling more slowly Frogs in a pot, well that's one thing I've got At least some of the frogs in here know me [Pre-Chorus] I want you to think of me sitting and singing beside you The chain pulls us up and we know that we're all gonna dive The blur and the noise of the screaming can blind and distract you But isn't it nice when we all can scream at the same time? [Chorus] And as we all go down And as we all go round And as we pitch from side to side Everything is gonna be alright Everyone's getting real scared to come out because coming out's going down badly Feel the city breaking and everybody's shaking And I just want someone to hold me Some are too scared to let go of their children And some are too scared now to have them Suicide, homicide, genocide, man, that's a fuck-ton of sides you can choose from I want you to think of me sitting and singing beside you I wish we could meet all the people who got left behind The ride is so loud it can make you think nobody's listening But isn't it nice when we all can cry at the same time? [Chorus] And as we all go down And as we all go round And as we switch from side to side Everything is gonna be just fine Everyone you love is gonna die Hopefully, this song will come remind you That's it's just a ride It's just a ride From the sister you miss To the father you don't want to write It's just a ride It's just a ride From the lover you loved to the one that you're frightened to find It's just a ride It's just a ride From the baby you lost to the one that you're growing inside Come out darling And don't you cry It's just a ride

As a person who has been depressed throughout most of their life, this song has moved me to tears like not many things have ever had. It's weirdly calming to think of life as a ride, yet it's also incredibly sad to realize that I might not ever find true meaning in what I do or at least struggle to understand the meaning of it all. It's okay because we might all feel that way, we're all along for the ride and it's less frightening when we have someone besides us. Thank you, Amanda for making me feel like you where there, sitting and singing beside me. ❤

I'm sitting here crying my eyes out at this song. Admittedly, I am on my third can of beer and it's not 8am, which, y'know, would likely tend to make you over-emotional. But it felt good to feel the tears. Like something was pulled out of me that needed to be... drained? Well! That doesn't sound very emotional does it. That feels more like talking about plumbing. Anyway, thank you for such a beautiful and moving song.

When my son-by-choice was born, and I was routinely overwhelmed - terrified of raising him in this world, terrified of what kind of parent I'd be, terrified of how my life and our complicated relationship would change, I sang this song to him in the dark. I half sang it for him and half for me, and now I realize there was a third half - for wishing somebody had sung something like it to me long ago. So, thanks. 2 years and counting, he still loves it as a bedtime song. :D

I last listened to this when I was in labour with my daughter. I had lost a baby prior to her and during my pregnancy I was terrified and often put this on for an emotional release. I just listened to it now for the first time since she was born (2.5 years has passed) and the song has completely changed meaning, I'm no longer crying listening to it, I feel strangely energized and eager for tomorrow to arrive. Amanda is a true artist, I feel like her songs are starting to weave themselves into my journey through this life. Just, amazing.

You say such nice things here how you conceive the song. How perfect is this song with so many natural changes in her music. She takes us through landscapes and events of our lives. Along to deep feelings and embracing compassion. The perfection of this jewel in art is so much more than just from this world. It's like she has been invited to heaven one day and God himself gave her the inspiration and imagination to make this massage of comfort for all of us. What a perfect jewel. Thanks Amanda.

I might not have liked your first release "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" but Theater is Evil along with this album here so far as well as all of your Dresden Dolls days are music that definitely intrigues me and dare I say speaks to me in some sort of another. But it's just a ride. Put aside the anger, write the father you've lost touch with, call your sister, hold that new baby, and hang in there. Be kind, because everyone on this ride is fighting battles and suffering more than you can imagine. Thanks, Amanda...
