I love Amanda and I def want to support her with this notebook! I bought an Archer and Olive for the first half of 2021 but I might get one of these for the second half. The only thing I don't love is the doodles on the cover; I love her designs I just personally think it's a little loud for my planner preferences. I would love to see her come out with versions that have just one of the doodles on the cover (similar to other notebook brands) rather than all 12!

Happy you reviewed this notebook, and for being upfront and honest about your biases ☺️ Personally I don’t like the cover of Amanda’s notebooks - they made a lot of sense for the Doodle Planner because of the themes, but I prefer my journals more minimal on the outside☺️ so that and the very high shipping prices to Norway is deterring me from buying one. That aside, her notebooks seem really great!☺️💕
@PlantBasedBride4 жыл бұрын
I can understand that! I’m a sucker for gold foil but I also love a minimal cover ❤️ I didn’t talk about shipping in the video because in my experience as a Canadian, shipping from literally anywhere is always expensive 😅 and then taxes/duties. Unfortunately there’s not much she (or anyone) can do about shipping costs unless they eat the cost, which can be very hard to do when you have a small business! It’s hard competing against companies like Amazon who are huge enough to negotiate deals with the post office ❤️
@mochibujo4 жыл бұрын
@@PlantBasedBride Absolutely! It must be hard to own a small business and compete with the large ones who can afford to lose a bit here and there because their overall gain is so big. And the shipping would be slightly more ok if customs and VAT and toll fees weren’t also involved😅 My friend got one set of Acrylograph pens from A&O, paid the $40-something it cost after shipping, and then paid an additional $25 in customs and fees once they arrived here in Norway😅 So it’s definitely a mix between expensive shipping and even more expensive customs haha😭

Shipping is pretty universally expensive to Canada with the exception of large corporations who are able to negotiate a low rate with the postal service, so that’s not a factor I consider. I face that problem from the other side as someone with a tiny business trying to ship internationally!

Yup, import duties are also super high here. I’ve sometimes had to pay more in duties/customs than I paid for whatever I ordered 😭 But that’s entirely on the Canadian government and Postal Service regulations, not on the sellers.

I love when Yoda makes an appearance! I appreciate your disclosure regarding Amanda, but I feel you are indeed trustworthy and meticulous in your reviews, and this was no exception. I’m so torn on which notebook to purchase lately. I prefer cream or off white pages for writing, but I don’t “journal” or write my actual poems and stories in my bullet journals because I don’t like having my “practical” stuff mixed with my “personal/fictional” stuff. I never did. Therefore, I find cream pages comforting, but for art and to do lists, I’ve been thinking about white pages. Plus, I actually DESPISE lines or dots in my personal journals, so that’s another reason I don’t use my bujo as a journal. Definitely like a little tooth to my paper, but not so much it further interferes with my left-handed ink issues. I want to get into fountain pens as well, so the thicker paper appeals to me for that, as well as for watercolor and gouache. Also, I wanted to try a B5 size, but now my mom bought me an A5 Chic Sparrow leather cover in my favorite color, and I’ve wanted one for years, so I feel like I really can’t go with a B5 right now...plus, an A5 is way more travel friendly (although I tend to carry large totes/satchels). However, the B5 size appeals to me for more room and for big beautiful sloppy art (not that you’re sloppy. I’m just ALWAYS sloppy). So yeah, this book is definitely on my radar, and I’m glad to see it performs well. I have also heard that Archer and Olive customer service is horrendous, so I’ve been torn about buying from them for that. And they always sell out so quickly. I hate that feeling of not knowing when I’ll be able to get ahold of another book. All these books give me that anxiety, actually. *sigh*

Have you thought about getting the blank A5 Leuchtturm? I think it checks all of your boxes! Also, what Chic Sparrow leather and color did you get?
@Linaskye1434 жыл бұрын
I have indeed thought about the blank Leuchtturm for my purposes as a journal, but wasn’t sure if I’d like it because I normally like a little bit more “bougie” for my journals. For reference, my favorite journals have been from Epica in Italy and Roma Lussa (I think from Cavallini & Co). However, now that I have a Sparrow, that may make things “feel” a little fancier. Thanks for the suggestion! I bought an A5 Carroll Deluxe in Snark. It just arrived today, and I’m in love!

I used Leuchtturm for several years, but recently decided to try another brand because Leuchtturm paper has gotten thinner and thinner, and my fountain pens were starting to bleed on my most recent notebooks. However, I love the coated paper. The new brands I've tried have thicker paper, but it's not coated. Nothing blends on it. I can't use my watercolors--they soak right through. In terms of the design I wish the pen loop was the same color as the cover. I dont like how the entire notebook is camel color for example and then the pen loop is black. As I'm currently shopping around for bullet journal notebooks I've noticed that a lot of them sometimes do that - different pen loop color than the actual notebook

I used Leuchtturm 1917 because the quality of the paper is better than the Moleskine's. I don't do bullet journals, I do journal/art journal, pen, paint, collage, stamping... For anyone curious, this dotgrid journal is identical to both Archer & Olive and Inprint. People pay to have these journals "whitelabeled" to create their own vanity brand; the paper is uncoated and identical in each vanity brand. Inks and water-based markers ghost/bleed through less often than wet watercolor washes. Since the paper isn't coated with sizing, you have to work quickly or your brushwork will remain as is. Each feature 2 bookmarks, elastic close, elastic pen holder and expandable back pocket. Inprint offers the lowest pricing. Let us all pray to the dotgrid journal gods for DOTGRID COTTON RAG JOURNAL!

Amanda uses fountain pens to write her tasks and she's using this notebook at the moment. I haven't seen any ghosting or bleeding whenever she shows shots of her bujo. No you’re not the only fountainpen user! I was about to ask the same question, because if it’s not fountain pen proof I wouldn’t even consider getting it (looks at still empty moleskin special edition in bookshelf, sighs, regrets)

I don’t have Amanda’s notebooks, but I do have the Archer and Olive which also has 160 paper. No bleeding and no ghosting with any of my fountain pens.

The Exceed brand sold at Walmart has some really good inexpensive 78-110 GSM dot grid notebooks! I created a bespoke planner for a friend on their 100gsm notebook this year. Some ghosting is to be expected but they are very good for the cost.

Hello! 👋

What puts me off are the super dark dots and the fact that the two ribbon markers are the same color. Pretty useless imho. Of course they could be spiced up with some beads or sth to make them different but I just wonder how she even thought of making them the same.

That’s interesting, most notebooks I’ve tried that have multiple bookmarks have them in the same colour! I actually prefer that myself. But I can understand why you may prefer them to be different ❤️ And as for the dots that’s totally fair! We all have different preferences when it comes to that.

@@PlantBasedBride Hi E, thanks for following up! I just checked all of my notebooks and none of those with 2 ribbons are the same. So I had simply overgeneralized this as the default! I have the following brands with two ribbons: Little More, Lamy, Brunnen (not dotted though, squared), 2xLeuchtturm (one regular and one neon edition). The Leuchtturms have same color but one solid and one striped. The rest all have two different solid colors. All of them are color coordinated either with the notebook's cover color, or with the outside color of the pages, when they have it (I can't remember the word for that... like the shiny foiling on the A&O ones that you have... or just look up the neon Leuchtturm or Lamy). Because you say you prefer them the same - I really wonder how you can tell apart (that is, if you actively use both marks )) what each marks in your notebook. Of course everyone has their preferences! E.g. my husband's sight is not so good so he couldn't be able to detect the light dots that I like. No offense meant to the notebooks. They are obviously of superb quality! Peace + Love
