Amanda Serrano is my favorite Puertorican female athlete. Symbolically, she's the image of beautiful and courageous womanhood, that so many of our Puertorican women represent. Requiring, that when it comes to her description, requires some tweaking. For one, she is a woman who has never denied her authenticity of being a proud Puerto Rican from Carolina, pronounce "Caroleena" not Carolina. Next is the fact that despite the symbiotic nature of the island and the mainland, she is not a "Nuyorican," colloquially or otherwise. That's a less than complimentary reference some Islanders use to disparage those born or born and raised on the mainland. A contentious slight, that P.R.'s do not take lightly. Then of course is the most egregious description of Spanish that is spoken, referred in this description as a dialect. Then further maligned by referring the Spanish spoken as "Spanglish." So just to get this straight. When English words are interposed with Spanish, that is "Spanglish." And does NOT comprise a dialect - something I could clear up for you, if greater brevity wasn't an issue. Despite the acuity that Spanish is spoken on the mainland, whether by Puertoricans, Mexicans, Cubans, etc. While the accents, timber, or cadence, can vary. When any of these mentioned speak grammatically correct Spanish, that Spanish does not qualify as a dialect. A little research on this issue, would have been appreciated. Regardless! Amanda Serrano, I'm sure is as proud of being Puertorican and New Yorker, as being one of the first and most notable Champion boxers, to don on boxing gloves. And it doesn't hurt, that she's also gorgeous! Que Dios te bendiga.
