This movie was made beautifully. While initially it is thought that it was wrong for the coach to refuse the girls on the boys' team, the refusal still retained merit in it. Viola is the MVP of her team, and when she tries to join the boys team, in the other school, she gives her very best efforts to make the team but still fails. Only after receiving personal training from Duke does she make the team.

The coach was sexist. That was already obvious. Although he initially admitted that the girls were really good players, his ego couldn't allow them to join the boys' team because he thinks they are still not good enough just because they WERE girls. That was the point he was trying to come across. Viola wanted it to be fair. To at least give them a chance. If the coach had been fair and if he was actually a good coach, he would let the girls give it a go and could actually harness their potential which he knows they already have but no. He chose to end their career just because of his ego.
