Thank you very much for this video. Just from browsing the comments of a few of your other ones, I can see how necessary it is given all of the students basically asking you to do their assignments for them. Given how often students struggle to apply audit concepts, though, I have to wonder: Is there something broken in the way most textbooks and/or professors teach auditing (specifically in undergrad)? You touch upon the vagueness of examples in textbooks here, but is there anything else about current approaches to audit education you think require addressing? Additionally, do you have any advice for other professors who may experience difficulty helping their students around common roadblocks?

Hey! Such great questions. There are some factors that I think come into play. One of the most important is the educator having practical audit experience - this makes such a big difference - because for me, auditing is about certain skills - and if you haven’t actually experienced those skills - it can be really difficult to teach audit well. It can become a lot more focused on teaching content from a book. If educators don’t have any experience - then working with great tutors who come from industry can help. I get the most messages about poor teaching of audit from students whose teachers have no choice practical experience. If this is you as an educator - connect with an audit firm in your city and ask to do an internship with them! Spend a few weeks on your sabbatical working with a firm, shadowing someone. For me - we spend so much time racing from one topic to another - with shorter semesters, more content required by accreditation bodies and less face to face time (often due to budget cuts) - it feels like we don’t spend enough time with our students working on the skills to be great auditors. It’s tough! We are teaching the skill of professional judgement and decision making. Which is part psychology, part audit theory, part standards compliance. This is a really great topic and perhaps something worth making a video on in the future!

Hello! Thank u for sharing. Need help on this. Can we separate IA and Control testing when we are the Internal Auditors? I believe both come together. Let's take a case where there were Accounting errors and Financial statement disclosure errors and the control testing I am doing is based on that Balance sheet item with accounting error. The attributes of Control testing are satisfied but there is a serious accounting error. Is this questionable with a client?
@amandalovestoaudit
@amandalovestoaudit 3 жыл бұрын
If you’re an internal auditor - then control testing is part of the role. If control testing finds no issues, but you still have a financial error - then you need to investigate how it occurred. This might also cause you to review your control testing program and see if there is either a potential gap somewhere or perhaps an issue associated with sampling

Hi Aman - we normally arrange with the client to get access to the records we need - AuditBoard has some great information www.auditboard.com/blog/what-is-an-audit-trail/ If your client is using a standardized accounting program (eg Xero) - often the entire year’s worth of information can imported into an analytical tool like Inflo or Mindbridge to give us more tailored audit trail information
