Hi! I want to ask if this test of control could be effective. If I want to see if there is no bogus and duplicate employee information in the system, can an attempt to integrate a bogus/duplicate info on the system help (ensuring that it is rejected)?
@amandalovestoaudit3 жыл бұрын
That is one option ☺️ but it won’t help you identify if any fake employees currently in the system (if the control was circumvented some how)
@TRIC_iancris3 жыл бұрын
@@amandalovestoaudit I see...I'd imagine I would attempt the fake employee info insert right after tracing a sample of the payroll run to both employee register details and the employees themselves.

Just wonder we can cash 5 days on annual leave and 2 days on long service leave in New Zealand. If we don't take that 7 days and sell them back to the company, does it cost more for the company? If we take leave instead, will it save the company money?
@amandalovestoaudit3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question! Theoretically it will be the same cost if you take annual leave than if you cash-in or sell your annual leave for funds instead. The only consideration is if cashing out your annual leave takes you to the next pay/tax bracket - this would affect you, not your employer.

We need to start talking like we're in the 21st century. I doubt many companies still use timesheets...automated time keeping systems are used. How do we audit and verify information in automated workflow systems...that is what should be taught in all areas being audited.
@amandalovestoaudit4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan - if you have more information on automated time keeping systems - I'd love to know more. In talking with people who work in Big 4 accounting firms, right down to supermarket workers - they are still having to record time worked in some way.
@PETERSILLINOIS4 жыл бұрын
@@amandalovestoaudit Hello Amanda, thanks for responding and sorry for the snotty comment. My point is that a lot of documentation (e.g. work hours, receivers, po's, purchase reqs, various levels of approvals, etc) are contained within systems with no physical paper or reports. I suggest we teach a physical paper based system but also describe to some extent how to audit in a more automated, workflow based system. Keep up the good work on your videos!
@amandalovestoaudit4 жыл бұрын
I would love to teach my students on automated systems - alas, trying to get approval for such things I've found to be very difficult. When paper systems move online, testing the controls and the general IT environment become so critical. Thank you for sharing - we all have different perspectives and experiences and working together is how we can learn and grow the fastest :)
@marieprenton23404 жыл бұрын
@@PETERSILLINOIS Interesting comments Dan, however some of us in England still work with allot of companies who are still using timesheets.
