I think letting go of "pinterest perfect" bullet journal mindset is the most freeing thing. I used to restrict myself so much in my spreads (what if somebody sees it and thinks it's weird/ugly?) and sure, they were very pretty, but they didn't feel like me. This past year I've been doing whatever I liked. Pink gallore? Bring it on. Made a mistake? Whatever, keep going. Have I done this theme before? Yes, I loved it, so I'll use it as many times as I like. And so on. I had realised I put too much effort into abiding by too many rules I made for myself for absolutely no reason at all. This year I let go and sure, 2023 bullet journal is not perfect, but I feel that this one I loved the most, and to me - it's the prettiest one so far. Take that leap!

What really helped me there was the comfort of knowing no one was ever going to look through my bullet journal. Sometimes if I was really proud of something, I would show it to my husband, but I think the thing that really gave me the freedom I needed to create with no strings attached was knowing I would not be benefiting in any way from it: it couldn't be monetized or turned into content. It wasn't going on social media. It was just mine. It became a source of pride for me and made me fall in love with creation for the sake of creation again.

Wow “let it be ugly” is such a good mantra. I myself have been pushing myself to sketch people more, I always hated doing it because I’m bad at it and so it would turn out ugly. But after forcing myself to just do it while I’m bored at work I’ve made so much progress. And yes there is A LOT of ugly sketches, but I’m just letting things be ugly. My goal for 2023 was to buy a car, which meant I needed a better more stable income, which meant I needed to take a chance and quit my job to to take on a full time position somewhere else with more responsibilities. And by September I had done it. I’m not sure what my goal for 2024 will be I like to wait until mid January early February to plan them. Give myself time to get through the holidays and rose coloured glasses of fresh beginnings.

This is EXACTLY the kind of energy I was wanting to create with my bullet journal spread for 2024! I'm working through living as a perfectionist and always being self-critical about any work I do in my bullet journal so next year I'm trying to go with the flow more and accept any "mistakes" I make in my bujo. I’ve been following your journey since 2017. I remember when you used to “draw your subscribers”. That year was the worst of my life, but you helped me get through it. Since then, I’ve done a lot of bullet journaling, and you’ve been a real help. Truly, thank you. Now, it’s hard to find the time for my bullet journal. I’ve become a mom and now have a 2-year-old. But I want to get back to it and I want my baby to see me creating things without fear or perfectionism.

Something that happened to me last month was I developed this weird nervous habit, where if I made a mistake in the spread setup I'd cut the entire page out of my journal and start over... Embarrassing to say I ended up destroying a notebook's binding due to how many pages I cut out. One of the things I'm focusing on this year is keeping my mistakes, and working with them. So this video's message really resonated with me and I appreciate it.

YESS, i support imperfect bullet journaling! so many people always feel so intimidated to bullet journal, but there's literally no rules or expectations other than your own's. i always remind people that bullet journaling is meant to support *your* needs whether it's the opportunity to make more analog art or just to keep track of the simplest written out to-do list for the day! and this goes to any type of journaling honestly, whether it's bullet journaling, junk journaling, book journaling, etc. haha. i feel you though on having been part of the influence of artsy perfect bullet journaling, like my tiktok content can feel too perfect for some people, but in my eyes, i still see all the bad marker coloring strokes i made or the bad line art, and i've learned to let go because it's okay! like it's all just me growing as a creative person the more i doodle haha. i think people like us just happen to make artsy bullet journals because we happen to also be creatives as our professional career. long comment oop lol, but wishing you the best year ahead in 2024!! 🤎

The most freeing thing I have done in bullet journalling is making intentional mistakes. Once it's not 'perfect' any more there is soooo much less fear of making accidental errors. Draw a line through a page! Cut something slightly wonky or a little too short. Smudge. On. Purpose. It's liberating when perfection is not longer on the table!

i started bullet journaling 6 years ago but i stopped because it got too much to keep up with, so this was so important to see and hear because one of my biggest goals in 2024 is to restart doing things that used to bring me joy when i was younger that i just stopped doing and one of the biggest things i loved was bullet journaling. The word rebuild also hits so close to home for this same reason, because it aligns so deeply with the things i hope to recover from over the next year. My biggest hope for this year is to let go of so many responses i built based on fear and anxiety to rediscover who i am, and this video could not have come at a better time to remind me what matters and what is important. This was so inspiring and healing and this shift in perspective was so necessary, thank you so much amanda! i’m wishing you all the best for 2024 and i hope all of our goals and aspirations materialise. sending you all my love and best wishes🫶🫶🫶

I’m so proud of you! I’ve been following you for years, maybe within the year or two that you started bullet journaling because I started just after. Watching you grow and learn about yourself and your style, what you want out of your life and making this video about you and slowing down a bit is so great 🎉 Letting go of the mindset of perfectionism and consumer inspired for lack of a better phrase makes me so happy. I love this setup and how simple but still cute it is ❤ You did a fantastic job and having this sense of planner peace in your spreads is so encouraging to see. I love your videos and I hope you keep growing and achieving your dreams!

hi amanda! 🐸 I have been following you since 2019 and remember looking forward to each month's video. I felt like it took a lot of weight off of my shoulders having to decide what next month's theme would be. I have trouble drawing from memory so seeing how you drew your themes really helped me out! I felt less intimidated to draw by seeing how you drew and I honestly felt more encouraged to try. I really enjoyed your sentiment about contributing to this overwhelming world of needing to be aesthetic, artistic, and perfect in order to "bullet journal". you are rad and that was cool. thank you for sharing and reminding all of us to go back to the place of creating for fun. sending a warm cup of your favorite beverage and a head pat. ✨ P.S. I love Fredbert and I love your word of the year!

I feel like I literally watched this video at the perfect time, everything you said about “taking the leap” and being creative without being afraid to make bad art is something that I’ve been wanting to learn and is the exact thing I need to hear, so thank you Amanda!! I honestly haven’t watched any of your artsy/ bullet journal videos in years, and while I grew up being obsessed with art/ drawing all the time, I gave up on trying to make art because of exactly what you talked about; I put way too much pressure on myself to make art that was good or perfect, so much so that I grew to hate making art as a whole. I’m not even sure how many years it’s been since I’ve taken the time to make art for fun and just for myself, and it’s probably been even longer since I’ve done that and liked the art I made afterward. However, recently I’ve been starting to think more and more about trying to make art again. While I’m worried about all of the pressure I might put on myself with any art I’ll try to create, I’ve noticed I’ve been getting a bigger and bigger desire to just “take the leap” and give it a try despite the fears and worries I have about it. Since you and your videos have always been so so inspiring for me, I decided to watch this video of yours today, having no idea you’d talk about the exact thing I’ve been dealing with and wanting to try to fix about myself, so thank you so so much Amanda. The fact that this is something you’re dealing with too makes me feel so much better about this and it makes me a lot more excited to take your advice and try art again next year, in general and without putting so much pressure on myself about how it’ll look. I just thank you so so much again for talking about all of this, and I hope this next year goes incredibly well for you!!💗💗

Loved seeing Fredbert and your lovely little setup for 2024! Also, I’ve been struggling with making art in the past 2 years, cuz of lack of motivation or just feeling stressed about “messing up” or not making good art. But listening to you talking about how you should be proud of making art regardless and creating for yourself instead of trying to make something perfect was very heartwarming!! Thank you for being so real!! Been watching your bujo videos since 2017 and you always inspire me 🥰🫶🏻

Also, I put a lot of pressure on myself when I started bullet journalling because I wanted to be as good as Amanda, even though I had no clue what I was doing. I ended up barely using my first year bujo. The next year I decided to do my own thing and it was very freeing. I changed it up month to month. I edited a lot out because, trying to do mood trackers and habit trackers and cool effects with my pages was just too overwhelming. I got down to things to do, things to get, things to create, that month and then a weekly spread. That's what currently works for me. I've done it the past two years and I'm happy. I still try to tweak it every now and again, try something new but, when life is as hectic as mine is, I strip it back to this.

some of my goals for next year!! - get out in nature/sun more… this is a BIG one for me, walks, hiking, swimming, as long as i’m outside and not scrolling on my phone - boost my education!! I want to be more knowledgeable on real world topics-environment, history, expanding my vocab, etc. i plan to do this through reading and podcasts! - sleep hygiene!! i literally don’t sleep and when i do it’s horrible. i want to make a night and morning routine that works for me to help me get the rest i deserve!! these are just a few goals of mine but i definitely want to focus on improving myself this year to be a better person!

I really appreciate the sentiment this year. I too felt like last year I was looking for a different way to one-up myself month over month. As the spreads got more complicated and artistic, actually using the bullet journal, or even finishing the spreads, got harder and harder to accomplish. I really loved the wild ways my spreads challenged me, and I loved having a pencil in my hand every week, but I think the name of the game this year is going to be fun but simple. And I think that is going to be true of everything I do. Fun, but simple.

I love this!!! I'm a total perfectionist and have gotten trapped in my own expectations with bullet journaling before too. When I get a pretty new notebook I purposely make a bunch of mistakes on the first page so I won't be afraid to use it. Lots of misspellings, ugly color combos, failed doodles, you name it! I do it to remind myself that it is supposed to be a tool instead of a chore and to give myself love and grace over future mistakes.

Just to share my experience with bullet journal. I started 2018 but failed because it is a lot of work. 2020, I started journaling again without any frills, just writing. I enjoyed it so much. the way I am free to write and make mistakes 😂✨✨❤❤ and now I am back here checking on organizing tips for my mastered way of chaos journal. I am not pursuing anything fancy, I am just looking for great hacks. And One of the hacks I realized while watching this is: goals! the goals are very integral part of measuring the gain we have made and is always ever changing! the reason why this kind of pretty journalling did not work out for me is because when I wanted to change my goals, I get this conflicted feeling of I don't have any space on my journal which made it so unsatisfying for me. So now, I am planning to buy a spairal journal thatI can add pages into so I would never feel guilty for ruining my precious artwork!!!!! I am so excited!! Conclusion: For bullet journal to be effective and enjoying, it needs to be very flexible and doesn't rely on artworks that much. Stick to the stuff you can do without hesitation and be very open in changes.. because that is life in a nut shell so should our journals be. Enjoyyy!!

Oh! My quote of the year is reinvent yourself as many times as you need to and seeing your word rebuild makes me feel kinda connected! Here's s to 2024 reinventing and rebuilding '98 ers and anybody else who choses to do so too!! 💖

I'm really enjoying your attitude in this video. Ultimately you should be doing the stuff you want to do and the stuff you like. I love this theme, Fredbert is adorable and this was so fun!

I am loving this year's setup! I can't appreciate enough of how naturally your art comes out in the form of your bullet journal and how much it inspires everyone in a different way (including me)! Thanks Amanda !♥

I love the frogs so much !! My goal for the new year is to always put my feelings first and actively listen to them! For example when I really don't feel like going to a social event I simply won't go ☺️

omgg i have been waiting for this video. i have definitely been feeling the pressure of making my 2024 setup "perfect" and have been procrastinating it because of that, so this message came just in the right time for me. loved the cinematic intro and fredburt

Thank you for the permission to simply create, rather than produce perfection. Such a healthy start to the year!

Is not my style I have to say, but what I loved is the reminder that it should be fun. That’s what I am going to do, have fun while doodling my bullet jornal for next year. Thank you Amanda for being such a great inspiration 🤍

Never set up a journal because I always felt so overwhelmed and never figured out what to do, but you make me feel inspired, I'm going to finish this video and get started. Thanks ❤

I adore Fredbert's appearances and the entire leaping frog theme for this year 🥰 Making scrapbook style spreads with photos in my planner/life journal is my favorite thing!

Your intro is perfect! For the past two years I have bullet journalled less and less. (3 years ago I had a really successful BTS BE inspired journal and I haven't been able to match that theme since.) When I do remember to do a spread nowdays its just plain pencil or pen boxes - no decoration - which makes me sad. I think you're right, too many options means I can't decide what to do!

This is literally the cutest setup! Absolutely in love with the color scheme, the way you cut out parts of the page to make a calendar/album, and the cute lil froggo :) excited for 2024 now🥰

In 2024 I want to really focus on health as well as creativity! I used to enjoy crafting things so much but kinda stoped and I don’t remember why… hope everyone great health and time for themselves to get back into things they enjoy in the upcoming year! 2024! 🐉

Hey Amanda! This is such a cute setup. Some of my goals for 2024 include paying off my credit card debt (been working on this one since Oct 2021), implementing a no planner/stationery spend challenge, and getting more sleep. I hope you have a very successful and fun 2024.

Idk if I've ever commented before, but this is so cute and REFRESHING!! I love that you addressed the minimalism vs "artsy" and that what matters most is what works for you at this time! Such a cute spread.
