The day after the October 7th attack, Israel launched its counteroffensive on Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli government claims it has killed thousands of militants and severely degraded the terror group's command structure. But after a year of war, airstrikes, tank fire, artillery and guns, more than 40,000 Gazans also are dead - including thousands of women and noncombatants and at least 16,000 children, according to the authorities there. Also among the dead are more than 100 journalists - the world's only eyes and ears since the banning of the foreign press. Youmna ElSayed, an Al Jazeera correspondent, joined this program last year from Gaza to describe the reality of working there. Since that interview, Youmna has fled Gaza with her family. Ten months on, she joins the show to discuss how hard it was to leave, and the stories she could not bring herself to tell at the time.

We need to see and amplify the images she describes. I'm confident that she told her narrative recognizing that many people would initially wonder whether a weapon of destruction and not a victim was in that knapsack. While we cannot expect these images to move the insane leaders of Israel and Gaza, we can employ them to influence sane leaders with hearts and clear minds.

No proof Al Jazeera reporters are not a terrorists/reporters, she lies with straight face. Let see the fact: Reporters had hostages in his house. Not enough press report about Gaza war, seriously? She wants other countries to bail them out but she has not once call upon her people and/or Hamas friends to stop. Cause and Effect principle anyone? Scam/con artist---victimhood? Self-inflicted injury anyone,,,,

It will end when the people force it to end. The Rule of Change comes from studies showing that, whenever 3.5% of a population engages in nonviolent action to force change, change happens. Recently, Israelis hit that threshold twice; immediately after, Netanyahu struck Lebanon. Ultimately, tyrants are afraid of the people rising up. And when enough people rise up, they win.

Thank you also Hari Sreenivasin for this interview on Christine Amanpour and Company, which is aired on PBS and CNN International. Youmna is now living in exile in Egypt with her family, the decision to leave Gaza was very difficult for her. She said Palestinians who fled to Egypt are not allowed to work or send their children to school in Egypt and that makes their lives very difficult. Harrowing truth from two amazing journalists. In this I’m reminded by this discourse, of the value of an independent fourth estate in providing a conduit of perspective into the human condition when challenged by the brutality of the political variables anathema to the conscience of humanity. I don't understand how people are still trying to push the "Israel gets all the sympathy in the media" narrative. Are you kidding me? Literally before Israel had even responded to October 7th multiple major western news outlets were running op eds essentially blaming Israel and going through the usual "colonizer/genocidal/apartheid" nonsense from people who clearly don't understand what any of those words mean. (fun fact, Palestine actually is trying, and failing, to commit a genocide on Israel. Like an actual genocide, meaning an attempt to wipe an entire people off the face of the map. Thank god they aren't as good at military tactics as they are at raping women, right? You phrased one thing right though; "her narrative" was upheld. You are certainly right on that.

War is hell. Violence is hell no matter who commits it or who promotes it. Sadly, journalists cannot strike, as they the public's only connection with truth. At some point - like right now - We the People must commit ourselves and enlist others to engage regularly and effectively with our elected representative everywhere. There are more of us. The 3.5% Rule of Change reports that nonviolent protest wins 100% of the time when enough citizens rise up. While Israel recently reached that threshold twice, we are saddened that most Gazans who dissent suffer horrific consequences from Hamas. So, again, it is up to US to make a difference. When we organize, we win.

Maybe feel heartbroken that Hamas didn't build a single shelter of any kind for its people. Maybe feel furious that Hamas attacked Israel knowing full well Israel would retaliate as it did (Hamas was counting on it) Be furious that all of this could end tomorrow if Hamas would surrender, or even just release the hostages and agree to a cease fire. Her people have continuously failed themselves. Let's put Israel out of the picture for just a minute, do you think Palestine is a good example of a just and free society, where all people are treated equally? Do you think women are free in Gaza? Homosexuals? (oh wait they kill them). non-Muslims? You are literally holding up one of the most brutal and repressive societies on this earth up as some sort of grand example of all the good things the world could be. It is just bafflingly naive.

The number of martyrs in Gaza exceeded 300,000 martyrs and missing persons. Finally, someone credible (THE LANCET, a British Medical Journal), crunched the numbers and the real genocide figures came to light. Estimates are based on epidemiological studies that conclude that for every person killed as a result of military action, between three and twenty additional people are killed as a result. This means that the death toll may exceed 646,000 martyrs. The number of killed and missing in Gaza/Palestine far exceeds the publicized number of "over 38,000 Late June the news reported 21,000 children are missing or imprisoned. How do the 21,000 relate to the 38,000 killed by the Zionist Regime? What is over 38,000? Is it 38,001? 38,010? 38,100? 39,000? 360,000? 3,600,000? As of the last third of April 2024: I read an anonymous posting that claimed that the actual number is 200,000 victims, within a week, an anonymous German person, set the number of victims at 1/3 million, or 333,333 killed and missing. I wondered how they came up with those number until last week when news came out about the AI program and how it works. Raw data: 1- The number of people on the list is 37,000 2- The average Palestinian family size is 5.6 individuals in the Gaza Strip. 3- The number of “dumb” bombs dropped on Gaza and used to support this AI program is 29,000 bombs. 4- According to a Wall Street Journal report, Israeli bombs have destroyed over 300,000 of the 439,000 homes in Gaza, which is more than 70% of the homes in the city. 5- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that at least 40,000 of those homes have been completely destroyed. Calculations: 1- Numbers of people on the list X Average Gaza family size 37,000 X 5.6= 207,200 2- The number of “dumb” bombs X Average Gaza family 29,000 X 5.6= 162,400 3- WSJ report on homes destroyed X Average Gaza family 300,000 X 5.6= 1,680,000 4- The UN report on homes destroyed X Average Gaza family 40,000 X 5.6= 224,000 Ignoring the 1,680,000 as outlier, and looking at the other 3 numbers, we find the MEAN to be 162,400 and the average 207,200+ 162,400 + 224,000 =593,600. 593,600 / 3= 197,866 This means, the death toll in Gaza is nearly six times the number being publicized. Nut&Yahoo wants to continue the WANTON GENOCIDE FOR TWO YEARS TO COMPLETELY ANNIHILATE THE POPULATION.

Not one word; not a one about HAMAS. The love of children, all children, must bring a call for Iran and Hamas to stop. Whoever you blame for the war, (and blame is empty rhetoric) if Hamas stop and Iran take their weapons elsewhere, you can make the war stop. Call it out for the sake of the children and for all decent people.

With respect, nope. Never Stein. That's the way to get Netanahu's best friend - Donald Trump - back in control of our government. Trump is already collaborating with Putin and Netanyahu in real time, along with his other cronies who help him as much as they can. Voting for Jill Stein will elect a man whose son-in-law already has plans to develop Gaza into a seaside resort for the rich. Where will Gazans go? The tyrants won't be able to kill them all. But the chaos they create strives to divide us and keep us from thinking straight. Let's get our head back on straight. Stein will elect Trump, who will help Netanyahu clear Gaza of Gazans. Stay away from Stein and all 3rd party candidates. Defeat Trump with the landslide necessary to quash his 90+ baseless election challenges already filed.

Amanpour has been doing especially great work in these terrible years of horror and hate, most recently covering a series of positive developments in the Mideast (if not in the United States - yet). This said, it is very disappointing not to see the above broadcast's interview with Israeli and Palestinian activists working together and bringing the first positive news about efforts among their people to replace the violence their leaders foment with peaceful coexistence. That interview shares the story in a new and unique way; I can't recommend highly enough the value of sharing it.

The times of Israel reported ages ago that they tried to return the hostages immediately after Oct 7. Netanyahu said no. He wanted to use the hostages as an excuse to bomb Gaza and ethnically cleanse it. He has thwarted deal after deal after deal. Nobody holds him to account so why would a little fascist like him do anything differently?

@@shinesjvx You should educate yourself, and I genuinely mean that. The claim you're making was thoroughly debunked nearly a year ago by Max Blumenthal and the investigative reporters at The Grey Zone. That narrative was cynically pushed after the 40 ba.bie.s story was found to be a fabrication, and to manufacture consent for the Governments involved to continue their on.sla.ught. No person de.ad or alive out of the thousands of survivors came forward or were medically treated for r@.p.e Not saying atroci.i.ties didn't happen. But to peddle that fabricated angle to manufactu.r.e consent for the indefensible is a new low. Don't take my word for it, it was debunked by Is.ra.eli news and The NYT story that originally made the accusation "Screams Without Words" absent of evidence has been quietly shelved by the NYT. Unfortunately, that framing was aimed at people just you, and it apparently worked.

This whole interview is a manipulation: I got half way through and couldn’t take anymore. This journalist is wearing a keffiyah which shows straight away where her allegiance lies: to Hamas extremists-not the people of Gaza. She cloys for sympathy; she plays victim. She claims Gaza gets little TV coverage but that is not true at all-it gets tons. I’m sorry her home nation has been bombed and there are plenty of reasonable arguments to make for how the Israeli war retaliation efforts may have become disproportional but she doesn’t make them: instead it’s just the victim card over and over again as if Hamas extremists don’t bear some responsibility for the suffering of the people they’ve been governing. And, the boy with the backpack-why such melodrama needed when telling that story? And, how anyways does a five year old dead child fit in a backpack? A five month infant, sure-that would be plausible. But not a five year old kid. And, why does the interviewer not bother to challenge her on her accounts-or; even question if she thinks a resolution could be brought about somehow so Gaza could be made safe again and the remaining hostages brought back home? Simple: he doesn’t challenge her because it would interfere with all those crocodile tears she is emoting out-and, that the progressive audience of this channel want to see that they can then use to legitimize their anti-Israel biases.
