That is how good interviews work. If the guest derails, it is an interviewer's skill to keep the interview on track without offending or getting offended. It is a very delicate thing to do. Always remember: The CIA and Mi6 overthrew Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister, Mossadegh, because Mossadegh wanted to nationalize the oil industry in his country and that angered the British who had oil holdings in their country. The British didn't like that and conspired with the US to overthrow Mossadegh in 1953. Mohammad Pahlavi was already put in power by the British beforehand during WWII. They forced his father to abdicate the throne. After the attempt to nationalize the oil industry and removing Mossadegh, they centralized the power under Mohammad Pahlavi. The foreign oil companies were immediately brought back in the Consortium Agreement of 1954. This overthrow of Iranian democracy planted the roots of unrest in the country. It's why the Iranian Revolution happened and why the Islamic Republic took over. But you'll never hear of that in the west. It's not the ''evil'' they want you to focus on.

One of the most important things in communication is PROVIDING CONTEXT before the actual answer (to neutralise any ambiguity or hidden meanings). So when you rush a person to directly get to the point without first providing full context - you'll end up with question marks in your mind - and make wrong conclusions/interpretations.
