I just listened to this like 25 times in a row, while sipping on brandy and reflecting on the past... really something, very nostalgic, conjures up the early 20th century, times gone by. Even though I have never seen the film, I loved this. Thanks so much for posting!!

When Nino Rota and Federico Fellini departed, they left us in a world grown suddenly colder, regardless of whatever the climatologists might say...

Yes, no one has replaced the great movie makers of the 20th century. What has happened to imagination and genius?

@@louisaellingham602 - I don't know... maybe there was space back then, in the 50s and 60s, to really focus on self and society, and now it's all nativism, global warming, anger, violence, terrorism and fear. Maybe the concerns of that bygone era can now be seen as first-world indulgences, what are sometimes known as WPP- White Peoples Problems... when now, while people are drowning daily in the Mediterranean trying to escape Boko Haram or the Taliban, when people are slogging north through the jungles of Central America to escape the gangs that run Honduras, etc., perhaps Alienation and The Silence of GOD or the subject of The Guys (I Vitelloni) leaving their parents' homes in their late 20s to finally start their own lives... these subjects just don't resonate, they no longer get the respect or interest they once did. Now, that's just off the top of my head; maybe those masterpieces, in retrospect, appear as 20th century hothouse flowers, I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, movies like La Strada will live forever... but do they ever air anymore? I don't have cable (I've become something of a Luddite, of late), the revival houses appear to be gone, I only have over-the-air (OTA) antenna TV (which seems to be mainly a relentless ghetto of Audie Murphy & Randolph Scott western movies, plus sitcoms from some vast soulless wasteland of canned laugh tracks, where Nino Rota is never heard) and I NEVER see these masterpieces there anymore, so my question is (to add to your own, finally); do the filmmakers of today, and the would-be filmmakers of tomorrow: are they being exposed to these great works, or are they locked away in some 20th century bubble, seen only in History Of Film courses at expensive universities? Or are they rather seen as just irrelevant... or are they on cable all the time, and since I don't HAVE cable, is it just me that has no access to them? Good Luck Louisa; thanks for indulging my rant (I'd no idea that was inside of me).

@@hudsony777 - What I meant was, the humanity they both represented, when they left the scene the world was left a colder place. What has replaced them? Jaws heralded the huge rise of the spectacle movie, whereupon the first opening weekend box office determined what movies would be made in future, then the rise of the remakes, the rise of the franchise movie (I mean the very title of one of them: FAST AND FURIOUS, says it all) until finally the rise of the cartoon superhero franchise spectacle movie... Fellini & Rota are more then gone, they're forgotten and irrelevant (along with Bergman, Elia Kazan, Welles and their ilk) except to those like us.

@@TaichiStraightlife Hey, I know this is a bit late, but don't get too down! There are still some phenomenal movies coming out today. "Banshees of Inisherin" is one of my favorite modern movies, and it's really excellent. It's a rather simple premise, but they go really really far with it. "Aftersun" is a heartbreaking debut by Charlotte wells, and despite it being her first feature movie it's really phenomenal. "Drive my car" is an amazing movie as well. To be honest, so is pretty much anything from Ryusuke Hamaguchi. If you like Japanese cinema, then you have to check him out. If you want modern Italian movies, "Happy as Lazzaro" is a great movie, in a similar vein to some Fellini movies. And "Gomorrah", while much heavier, is great as well. There's a bunch of other movies, but these were some that I enjoyed.

Federico Fellini is undoubtedly one of the world’s most acclaimed directors, always surprising and breaking with the viewers expectations, as he did in his 1973’s Academy Award winning work “Amarcord”. This piece of “art” has no continuous story-line but focuses on the look and presentation of different settings and actions. Finally, his long-time collaborator Nino Rota comes in and supports the imagery with a superb and surprisingly light (but no less humorous) score. The music was taken from this years release by Quartet Records, featuring the complete original music on two CD's. A link for more information is in the description. Enjoy!
