Somebody chopped the album up. The original soundtrack was about 40-min long.

It’s hard to imagine Home Alone without John Williams score. Originally, director Chris Columbus wanted Bruce Broughton to score the film, but he wasn’t available as he ended up doing The Rescuers Down Under for Disney which came out around the same time as Home Alone in 1990.

good old soundtrack fred. so this is actually from the 2-cd 'promo' release? curious to know, because the sound quality seems kosher - the question is whether to plop down the $60 or so it's now going for so as to get the extra music (i've always had the stanyan release, didn't know the 2-cd set existed til today). i'd be grateful for a quick yes or no, then i'll delete the comment. thanks.

No need to delete your comment in any way, that's where the comment-section is for. :-) Well, the question if you should buy the soundtrack or not is just upon you - nobody else. I just can confirm that this is one of the better bootleg CD's. Not only is the music sounding as being put out by a proper label, it contains everything Waxman recorded. The source must have been various tapes, as well, as Waxman recorded the score in Rome and then again in Hollywood after major rewrites. Here is everything, even some bonus cues, featuring Waxman and the orchestra rehearsing. So, it went some real effort into this release. It is not only the most complete version out there, I think it probably will be that for a long time, as the name Waxman (even for film music aficionados) is not a guarantee for a successful new soundtrack release... Maybe you write me a mail at [email protected] and we can see how to get you to this music... :-) Best! Fred

@@SoundtrackFred thanks a lot. the offer to delete was because as i'm sure you know, discussion of bootleg cds is - or was, years ago when i visited them - a big no-no on the various soundtrack website forums; i didn't want to get you into 'trouble'. hopefully those concerns/dramas are all done these days, as fewer & fewer people should be caring anymore about cds of Any type. it's pretty much a thing for we old days collector guys (has there ever been a woman into this stuff? he he). anyway, thanks for the offer to connect me to the recording, but i'm the o.c.d. type, and need the actual cds. there's one on discogs right now for $60-ish, and the embarrassing truth is that that's no problem for me, affordability-wise; it'll be worth it to me. thanks again for the info!

@@blacklicorice1833 Thank you very much for your answers! I personally have no problems discussing bootleg cds. When they are the only source to something, why trying to ignore their existence? Thanks to bootlegs, I could get to the beloved original recordings of Korngold and study them. Without them we would still have just about two(?) soundtrack releases to this day, featuring his original recordings... Best wishes, fun with the new Waxman cd and stay healthy! Fred

Muito boa essa música e não me recordava dela. Cumpre bem o seu papel em sublinhar o macabro suspense hitcoqueano; Sendo curioso o fato de ter sido descartada a música composta por H. Mancini para a mesma obra.

Hello, Fred! George Lucas wrote this metaphor about tolerance, a magical world where all creatures live in harmony. Jimmy Horner is in the charge of giving this world soul through easily assimilable melodic lines, beautiful arrangements ( with the aid of Greig McRitchie ) and, above all, for the inclusion of ethnic woodwinds, such as fuke shakuhashi ( Japanese flute used in monasteries in the XVI Century, performed here by Kazu Matsui ); ocarina ( Mayan oval flute of about 12,000 years ); tsiranapogh ( 3,000 years old Armenian wind instrument, also used by the people of Azerbaijan _ known as " balaban ", Turkish _ called " mey ", and Sak'ant'velo, the Caucasian Georgia _ known as " duduki " ). These and others are executed by Tony Hinnigan and Eric Taylor. All this gathered creates a beautiful dream mood and, perhaps, of hope... Thanks and bye!!

Having retired from working for films, Korngold was persuaded to do the arrangements for this one. The Jew Korngold who lost his home to the Nazis held Wagner im such high esteem even after the war. Maybe he knew that Wagner, who is always called sn antisemite, was a much more complex charakter. He wrote against the jews in one article but was also capable to be kind to individuals as Rubinstein and Tausig. An interesting subject worth to look at.

“Willow” (1988) is a fantasy-film that has gained the hearts of many. Though the plot of Willow (Warwick Davis) and his fellows Madmartigan (Val Kilmer) and Shorsha (Joanne Whalley) on their journey to fight evil has some flaws, the look and feel and overall world-building itself by writer / producer George Lucas is just fine. For the music, director Ron Howard turned to James Horner, with whom he worked once before on “Cocoon” (1985) and would enjoy a fruitful composer / director collaboration for the upcoming years. For “Willow” Horner gave it all and wrote one of the biggest and longest scores of his career. Orchestrated by his trusted colleague Greig McRitchie and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the outcome is what one would expect: epic. The composer was also known for writing long cues and preferring to record them in one take, instead of doing some shorter ones (to be glued together afterwards), similar to Erich Wolfgang Korngold. Here, Horner recorded probably the longest cue / one-taker(?) in film music history: “Bavmorda’s Spell Is Cast” with over 18 minutes of music. Featuring more lengthy cues, “Willow” comes close as being a “fantastic symphony” by Horner. Enjoy!
