@howtodrink8 жыл бұрын
Geoff Fast thanks for watching! My understanding is that ice size actually has a really large effect on the shake, and that using big cubes like I do might be why I find things like reverse dry shaking, or using a Hawthorne coil, to be less important.

Hey guys! Three things: 1) I love your channel. It's very simple and casual while somehow being presented in a very professional way. That's a perfect balance. Plus booze, which is more than any one man could ask for. Great job. 2) I liked the old set far better. Not that it matters that much - I'm one person and it certainly won't stop me from watching your videos. But I felt it was less cluttered and distracting. This one tries to draw my eyes away from Greg and the subject matter. Intro is much better though! 3) Could you guys do some Hawaiian/Caribbean cocktails some time? Maybe a Lava Flow? Tropical drinks filled with rum are my favorites. Keep being awesome.
@howtodrink8 жыл бұрын
Very much appreciate your feedback! The old "set" was legitimately my living room, and it's small and hot and miserable and now partially occupied by my six month old daughter and all her stuff everywhere to boot, so the time had come at last for the show to move out of my apartment. Also out of necessity the set will change from season to season as well now, simply because I won't be able to recreate it identically each time, so you may get your wish! As to the Tiki drinks, I love love love a good Tiki drink. To be really candid I had plans to shoot an whole series of episodes as part of season 2 focused entirely on Tiki, but we ran short of time for a few reasons and I had to cut it down to two episodes, the Mai Tai: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3q0p6yEorp_jJI and the Fog Cutter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6mnpZqkesaMd8k I intend to very fully explore Tiki drinks down the road. Hopefully in season 4. Thank you so much for watching!

Yeah just recently had this drink for the first time and had the same reaction. Been on a quest for the perfect recipe since. By your reaction I may have found it! , it may be the brand of amaretto that made my first amaretto sour so memorable as well. It seemed thicker, richter and creamier.

An amazing drink, try to replace the Bourbon with some smoky Scotch, really adds depth to the cocktail. btw, from what i know Amaretto isn't made from almonds, it's only taste like them, it is actually made from the oil of apricot seeds. Great video!
@howtodrink8 жыл бұрын
That could be true! I certainly don't know much about Amaretto production. I'm intrigued by the Scotch-Amaretto Sour idea though, would you recommend an Islay in that, or have we gone too far at that point?
@ShaiBarzel8 жыл бұрын
I tried it with Johnnie Walker Double Black because of it's subtle smoky flavor. I think Islay malt can give an interesting result with a full smoky body to the cocktail, perhaps you should try it with Laphroaig 10 , i think it will be a good combination.
@vishyav7 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I love your slow mo shots. Do you use a special camera? It really adds to the mouth watering affect of the drink! I actually came here because I'm reading a novel where one of the characters drinks Amaretto Sours all the time - Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn (Same author who wrote Gone Girl). Glad to know why the characters drink it all the time, looks like it tastes amazing!

Thank you so much for stopping by! The camera we shoot on is a RED Dragon, and the slow-motion is shot at 240fps. It's a fairly standard digital cinema camera, though maybe not typical for the average youtuber, but it's not a specialized slow-motion camera. The SlowMo guys for example shoot on a Phantom that can get up to something like 10000fps. Hope you enjoy the amaretto sour!

I prefer what I call a Picnic Style Amaretto Sour (no egg, minimal parts). So: 1/3 Amaretto, 1/3rd sour (which is 50/50 lemon juice\lime juice. Get fresh pulpy if you can), and 1/3rd 7-Up\Sprite. It has minimal 'parts' for packing for a picnic. Make over ice. To harden it, you can splash your favorite whiskey to strength but I prefer it without added kick or cut back on the 7-Up and more Amaretto.

how is that amaretto different from Disaronno I had Disaronno a few times but it was way too syrupy for me.
@matthewcollett85018 жыл бұрын
Disaronno isn't actually Amaretto; They haven't marketed themselves as Amaretto since 2001, in fact, their brand name is "Disaronno Originale" which is now marketed as an "amaretto-flavored liquor", as it doesn't contain any almonds, or Amaretto cookies. Disaronno uses apricot pits, because they have a compound which mimics the taste of almonds. Actual Amaretto is made by the infusion of Amaretto cookies (Lazzaroni) or almonds (Luxardo).
