There's every reason to believe that bartenders in the wild West in order to moderate how much sugar they were giving each customer because it is kind of hard to get and you might have to wait for the next train to come in with it would be making their two to one simple syrup. I'm reasonably sure it's part of the intentional anachronistic nature of the old fashioned that they use a sugar cube when in old times they would have literally never done that....

It's so sad watching the start of this and he actually seems to really, genuinely like at least some of these Manhattans because I did not watch this episode when it came out. I'm watching it after seeing the Canned Cocktails video where he refused to go for a second sip of a Manhattan because even though he says it's a serviceable Manhattan he's having a PTSD reaction to it.

Part of me wonders if these people are trying to order specific drinks (redbull martini for example) but the way to register that in the till system is to tweak an existing drink. So expresso martini - expresso + redbull It might be a stupid thought (I can be very stupid ngl) but the way my dad orders burgers is double bacon cheeseburger with no bacon or cheese. So that way he gets the double burger. Again might be dumb but. Idk.
