I love hot air balloons! Hot air balloons are my favorite aircraft! They are so beautiful and colorful! I helped inflate a hot air balloon one time, and it was so much fun!

I just saw a rogue balloon literally zig zag in the middle of the woods, I’m talking basket below the tree line. I was amazed that they didn’t crash

I recently watched night crossing from 1982 with John Hurt and then started btowsing hot air balloon videos 😅

@@rumeunner3245 wow I've not watched that I'm a long time, great story, I have it in the back of my mind that either the original balloon,or the replica they made for the film, still exist. I'm going have to do some digging, make a great video to showcase that.

How did they do it before we had gas/electric powered fans?
@TheBigBalloonFestival16 күн бұрын
Can you imagine the muscle power ! They used to put 2 people on the mouth to flap it open and closed to push the cold air in ! (The flap inflation) there was also a role known as 'cremation Charlie' and that person would stand inside the envelope with a broom / brush holding the fabric up as high as possible while the pilot fired the burners. Lots of scorched fabric, lots of toasted eyebrows 😮. Need to recreate this at some point I think 🤔 or maybe not, I'll let you know

@TheBigBalloonFestival thank you for the quick reply. I would love to be able to watch how it used to be done It sounds like quite the process

Can this be done in a hot weather ?
@TheBigBalloonFestival Жыл бұрын
Yes it can be done in hot countries and hot weather, the balloon can not lift as much weight when the air outside is hot. Hope that helps with your question ?
@abbware5200 Жыл бұрын
Need more emphasis on the crownline operator for controlling the inflation process, and the rising of the balloon slowly so it doesn't rock back.
@TheBigBalloonFestival16 күн бұрын
Ta Da, I knew there was a comment I needed to reply to about crown lines, here is a full video I made on just what crown lines do, hope you like it. 😊 kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZLZoJyNhZuCr6Msi=OZAb1en-eAL6556z

What's the sheet between the basket and the envelope for?
@TheBigBalloonFestival3 ай бұрын
@@rumeunner3245 you can see it at 02:41 in the video? If so this is called the scoop and it is made from fire proof nomex, it captures the passing breeze and directed it into the balloons envelope, it also stops the passing breeze (when the balloon is on the ground) from pushing the burner heat out the side of the mouth of the balloon. Most people leave it hanging loose till the balloon stands, then it just clips to the burner frame, doing its job, while you prepare to lift off.

How long does it actually take from start to finish?
@TheBigBalloonFestival2 жыл бұрын
The quickest launch I've ever been involved with was in a competition and we were airborne 7 minutes after driving into the field (we were up against a deadline - but a well oiled team) more commonly its a steady 30 to 45 min process

@@TheBigBalloonFestival thank you. Man in my neighborhood that does Hot Air Balloon looking for crew members. Said roughly 3.5hrs total setup-chase-tear down. Paying $50+tips(said guests do tip I guess). Just retired at 58…not sure if something want to do few flights a week or not or even worth time.
@TheBigBalloonFestival2 жыл бұрын
@@MemphisMike901 ah I see slightly different question. Yes I would say if your going for a flight experience or if your going to get into ballooning as a hobby (or to chase as crew) I always say book 4 hours out of your day per flight

how to apply for crew and driver job any country
@TheBigBalloonFestival Жыл бұрын
a lot of countries have a national ballooning association , for example the BBAC (British Balloon and Airship Club) or the BFA - (Balloon Federation of America), contact one via the internet in your region of the world and they maybe able to link you with a more local club or team, Then it's about volunteering, lift equipment and helping the team when asked. I hope this helps, be interested to know if you are able to get involved in the future of ballooning
