He won the 2010 World Junior Championships, beating South Korea's Kang Ji-wook in the final to become the first ever European singles player to hold the title.[4] Axelsen is a three-time European champion, having won the title in 2016, 2018 and 2022.[5]

But overall, old age and the building up of all the injuries make him have more bad days than the younger players, so overall, even now, Kento Momota still edges out in terms of h2h record against Axelsen, even though, in my opinion, Momota was not as good a player as Lee Chong Wei. I find that whenever Lee Chong Wei loses one-sidedly, people tend to talk about it over and over, like his big loss against Wei Nan, and Axelsen, as if "See? LCW is a fraud all along". As a badminton fan (I don't care about nationality, that's beneath sports in my view, I also don't personally know any of the top players), I always feel a little itchy when people don't recognize that LCW might have possibly achieved the highest level of badminton. It's a tragedy for me that such a great athlete gets as much disrespects from fans as he does.

I think LCW & CL were about the same level overall. H2H between the two also about the same. CL more towards impenetrable defense while LCW more on attacking. However, CL won whenever it mattered the most (WC & Olympics).
