Just a heads up I had the same problem (pain in my right hip) until I got a new matrass for my bed as it turns out the pain is caused by arthritis that was a few years back now I have to get a new hip. Ya might wanna go and get X-ray on your hip to confirm.

Love that Ceder! The only problem I have with it is it's so beautiful that it makes me mad when it isen't used in some place that shows off it's color and fine grain. It seems like a crime to use it for beams or shed siding. I have seen whole closets lined with ceder and I always loved it in ceder chests and the Jewelry and nic-nac boxes .

Out of the Woods, what blade are you using for your cedar. We’re in Texas and cut about 100-150 tons of Texas (Juniper) Cedar per month. It is extremely dry, fresh cut out of the log is only about 14-17% moisture content. We prefer 739 Woodmizer for our Pine Production, but have found the 7 degree tooth, 7/8” spacing, bites too hard in dry wood and is hard on the blade body. We’ve been using a 10 degree with 7/8 tooth spacing for our Cedar, but 10 degree is very slow in the cut but more stable.

I noticed that you sometimes use the hydraulic arm to rotate the log instead of the chain log turner. Is that because the chain can chew up an already sawn surface?

My cousin is a chiropractor and she said that 80% of hip pain with men is because that most men carry their wallet in their back pocket. I stop doing that and the pain I had for years disappeared in a couple of months. Wallets are pretty think and it will twist your hip and lower spine. My lower back pain mostly disappeared too. Makes sense when you think about it.

Can you explain board ft. The roller says 20 ft and you just sawed 60 .?
@JasonPeltier2 жыл бұрын
One board foot is easiest to imagine as a board that is 1" thick and 12" x 12" square. It is a unit of volume, not length. So 1" thick and 8" wide would need to be about 18-19" long to be one board foot. I forgot what he said the length of the log was, but I think there were 5 or 6 boards from the first log? Just multiply it out and you'll get the overall board feet number.

Yes, the eastern red cedar is actually a juniper (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juniperus_virginiana). I personally do not like working with it because the dust from it irritates my throat and sinuses. Also, it darkens over time no matter what finish you put on it. On the plus side it makes an excellent liner for blanket and hope chests without a finish on it of course. If you are not allergic to it, good for you. I love the appearance and the smell, it's just that I cannot work with it for more than a day.
