I have ordered parts from Chris Prince before for my TD21 but had no idea what his place looks like. Thank you for this video, it's great to see all these cars and parts. Indeed, he's the reason so many Alvis' are still running

Good to see that Elvis hasn't quite left the building yet! Puts me in mind of many years ago a friend had a TD21 drop-head and some of the antics we got up to... possibly not best talked about on a public forum! Keep up the good work and look forward to more 'finds'....

Wow I’ve just discovered this video! At 31.40 & 36.20 the Green TD21 Reg 329 KPB is my dad’s old car! Please let me know if you buy, we’ve got lots of old photos of it on family holidays. It was previously owned by the chairman of the Alvis club!

Cooooool!!! If that's the pale green one, yes it would probably be the one I'd go for, not sure I have the time, space and funds to do it justice, maybe one day!

Years ago when I was buying a green Volvo 122S from a retired couple, there was an Alvis 12/50 chassis and various other parts stashed down the side of their garage. I wish I'd asked about them, that's the closest I got to pre-war Alvis discoverin'.

That was very interesting thanks Rick, something you don't see every day on a make of car that was undeservedly underappreciated by the general public. I first became aware of these cars through my late father who always wanted one. I owned a TC 21/100 Grey Lady in the 90's for about 5 years. For a low production car quite a lot came to NZ in the 50's, many bought by sheep station farmers who became "rich" due to the price of the wool clip at the time. Not as many TD to TF came here though, but a bloke I knew in the Alvis club restored a beautiful TD series 1 fixed head and painted BRG. Great to see the chassis "unclothed" as I only ever saw mine as a complete unit. The engine had the heaviest valve cover I have ever pulled. It was cast metal, heavily enameled and this was said to have contributed to the quietness of the unit. Sold my one to return to flathead v8's which has always been my passion ( my father was sad on this).

Fascinating video, certainly one of the most gorgeous post war British cars ever produced, especially the dropheads.I recall as a boy seeing a primrose -yellow Graber bodied TE 21 drophead with chrome wire wheels parked up in London which left such a lasting impression , one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen .
@oldclassiccarUK11 ай бұрын
Thanks, until just a few years ago there was a gent local to us that used to drive around in a drophead TE21 (alternating with his XJS convertible), I think both have found new homes now though.

I think the word obsession comes to mind . The TD bodywork is so complex and prohibitively expensive to repair l think the greater part of this collection will never see the light of day . And alas , the same can be said for the collection of parts . Thanks Richard
@oldclassiccarUK11 ай бұрын
Welllll they survive, that's the main thing, and all the viable projects are in reasonably dry storage. Parts get shipped all over the world which helps keep existing examples on the road.

As with all your videos there is always an item that drags me down memory lane, and this video is no exception as it has examples of a an Alvis drophead of which in the late '50s an uncle had a second hand one in two tone black and white which I remember fondly. Alvis cars were usually owned by people for their restrained quality and beauty that lacked of what is called 'show', just like Daimlers were owned by discerning people whereas spivs and nouveau riche had Rollers to show off in! Thanks for another jem! Rob

What a stunning place ! 60 years ago, when I was a school boy, a friends Dad had an Alvis, and I was always envious of him, even then, thinking what beautiful cars they were. What an excellent service Chris is providing - you need it, Chris will have it - somewhere. Great video Rick, and so interesting to learn about the cars construction. Thanks for sharing, and yes - more of this type of video would be fun too. Take care 🙂

Well that was different and very enjoyable. People with such knowledge are sadly few and far between. If I had an Alvis I would know where to turn parts. I do like these cars, such lovely lines. Thanks Rick for the video and thanks to Chris for showing us around. Finally may the cats keep up their good work, nothing worse than mice in a classic car! 👍👍

What a treat to have someone presenting a video that actually knows about the Alvis! Very many thanks for posting this excellent video, I used to have a lovely TD21 Ser II which I think was the best looking post war Alvis , the mystery to me is how Chris Prince has acquired so many of the magnificent vehicles, there were less that 200 TD 21s made, and most of them seem to be here, I have dealt with Chris Prince and found him to be an absolute fist class person ,full of enthusiasm and knowledge, but I had not realised that he had such a fantastic collection , I only hope that his knowledge and enthusiasm is passed on to someone for the future of this thoroughbred marque Chris B.

I Hate to say this as a British Car Enthusiast but mostly what i see in the video is a Goldmine of parts and Peices that could be turned into some Worthy and desired Items but it would take a lot of time and money to do so of course the beauty of the parts would be not only Alvis Enthusiasts but that British Leyland used many of the same parts for other Makes and Models like Lucas Guages,Suspension Parts and many other interior and exterior Accessories I personally Enjoy more of the T Series and The XKE and several of the 2 Seater Convertibles of several of the Brands i’d be interested in maybe knowing if any of the Frames in this Hoard could be salvaged and possibly Rebodied ?
@oldclassiccarUK6 ай бұрын
They've survived, that's the main thing, and will either be used for parts or rebuilt at some point. The alternative would have been for them to be scrapped years ago, and they'd be gone forever, so to see them stored in the dry for now is fine by me. Thanks for watching.

I love an Alvis, especially the elegant TC21 'Grey Lady'. Great to see there's stock available at Chris's place but I fear that his stock will outstrip the demand in the long term unless a lot of young enthusiasts suddenly develop an interest in Alvis cars. Found the video interesting and sad in equal measure.

Sad to see that so many had been left to rot in the rain. Inevitable, probably, as parts ceased to be available and repair costs would have exceeded the value of the cars.
