Small towns often have the best stuff when it comes to antiques and vintage, and there's both beauty and amazement when we visit The Rusty Trunk in Ponderay, Idaho for our appraisal fair!
This one has so many great things that haven't seen the light of day in years! A Victorian shawl dripping in elegant beadwork, a portrait of a wealthy woman from the 1830s and a pair of hand painted Royal Vienna ewers evidence the finery that came to this mining and timber district in its early days...but there's both primitives and 20th century fabulousness here as well!
Pioneer days are represented by a huge, handsome yoke (think farmhouse repurposing), a jug that emigrated from England and a copy of a sign warning guests not to be afraid of those newfangled electric lights! Yet side-by-side we see a JFK campaign award from 1960, an English tile scene that puts Elizabethan classicism in a modernist vein and a pair of 1930s composition dolls found by a cowboy in an old cabinet.
The sheer unlikeliness of all these great old objects coming to a fun vendor antique mall for our review is what makes small-town appraisal fairs so great! We look forward to sharing even more from our visits here in upcoming videos...but this one is a really fun place to start.

I purchased a chamberpot. It's 132 years old. It has a manufacturing mark on it. I researched the mark and it was made by a man from North Carolina. I have his name on my phone. I know there's plenty of them out there. Probably not worth anything. But, what astonished me was that it's 132 years old, and there's no chips, breaks, or crazing. The only thing is that the gold rim is faded. I'm going to plant my ivy in it. So, it's worth something to me.

King Richard has beautiful colouration, and such a sweet boyish face…and, of course, the perfect name. I have high hopes for his survival, having seen Mandi, with her patience and loving care bring one back from the brink last year, and I was rooting for him very much to maker it back to flying. King Richard is eating his slurpy fruit slowly, and doggedly, so he can get his strength back…I will enjoy watching his journey in the care of Mandi. Thank you both for sharing this Mandi and Meg.🖤🇨🇦

Loved the reference to Connecticut near the end with the Victorian engraving about the Revolutionary War. You were spot on about us Nutmeggers, we totally geek out because we live in places where the battles and the spying went on (I live half a block from Caleb Brewster's place -- a lead spy for George Washington.) Was interesting to know that pieces like that are less desirable than in other parts of the country., yet it makes sense too. And thanks for sharing your knowledge!

What a terrific collection of antiques and collectibles. A lovely group of Idahoans and you are so good with people, I think you have fun. I might need to tackle the lady with the Kennedy Campaign box, I think that would go for $$$. My favorite was the large yellow German porcelain vase. Thank you for taking us along.

There's a factory artist (group of artists?) that pop up on one of the Facebook art ID groups, and weirdly all they did were paintings of old guys: rabbi, sea captains, Swiss guys in costume, etc. often smoking a pipe. They either used generic American sounding names or made up European sounding names on their paintings. I'm not completely sure if they were sold at furniture stores like most factory art or as souvenirs in various places.
