Thank you Jack for the most interesting and education video. As I go through a box of fig bars, I will think of the sacrifices the fig-wasps made.

Thanks so much for the tour of some fascinating trees; interesting information. I cracked up when you described the fig tree pollination and the queen wasp. If you ever decided to be a stand-up comedian, you could take that fig tree explanation of pollination on the road. 😉 😅

Thank you Jack for informing us how fig trees survived in the wild. Then,i bet, predators got there before humans. Rare figs I'd say😂😂💝

...the fig wasp life cycle is truly an enigma, isn't it?! I also found interesting the mahogany tree. I have several pieces of furniture that I have inherited from when this was the fine wood of choice (cherry, too) in the 1950s/60s. 🌳👩🏼‍🌾💚 =^..^=

Love aboretums - a great place to see what grows well in your area and learn. The fif and wasp atory has me captivated. I like to eat figs and I guess I like to eat fig wasps too.

This was fascinating and loved the mention at the end about environmental acclimation rates being much slower than what we, as the stewards of the environment, are throwing at them. Kudos to U of M for having this lovely space. 🌴🌳🌲🌳🌴💚

The Lignum vitae tree is indigenous to the Caribbean. It is the national tree In Bahamas and the national flower of Jamaica 🇯🇲. They use the wood to make furniture as I remember growing up in Jamaica.

Is that just certain fig species or all figs? I got to research this! My grandmother lived in south east Georgia, had figs trees and made the best fig jam ever, with fresh out of the oven, homemade bread! That’s what I’m talking’ about!

Just a correction…..not ALL fig trees need wasps for pollination. As an example, Brown Turkey fig trees are one very common fig tree which are self pollinating….no wasps needed or other tree necessary for pollination.
