For the mortar rounds, the AoE ignores armor values and so you can shoot pratoreans and oppressors in the face and still be effective. Armor breaking would still be good for helping teammates or for a secondary like elephant rounds. I think the mortars though are a great OC to run the Friendly perk with. The perk becomes more useful the higher Haz level you go and I can clear bugs off my teammates with minimal guilt. Finally, if you get the RoF scaling increase in Tier 2, by the time you're firing your second shot, you're at make RoF triggering the Tier 5 damage buff/resistance. I like the resistance to be able to shoot at my own feet or bugs right in front of me.

Neurotoxin Payload is perhaps the most true-to-purpose overclock for the Autocannon, in which you have 3 ways of controlling swarms: Poison, Slowdown, and Fear. They all work great when you have other players on a mission; especially if you tend to shoot from a zipline often, so you can get clear overhead shots on bugs. That's how I like to use the Autocannon. To balance it's low DPS, I like to go with the Coil Gun with the Triple Tech Chambers for that much needed burst damage on high value targets.

I remember trying the Meme Flak Cannon build with Carpet Bomber once. I believe it was near the end of season 3 or the start of season 4, but what I do remember is that I did not enjoy using it. Felt like I had replaced the .50-caliber tungsten rounds the Thunderhead is supposed to fire with toilet paper rolls. And I still haven't used Carpet Bomber since that mission. Maybe I should give it a second chance some day, but with a proper build and not the Meme Cannon.

Worth noting, that for Solo, the doubled magsize in T1 is amazing. You don't have to share resupplies, so total ammo is never an issue, but you also have noone to cover you while reloading, so only doing that half as often is huge.

My main gunner build is splintering shells thunderhead with 2 1 1 1 3, and compact mags brt with I don't remember, but it's pretty basic anyway. Always works no matter where I am or what mission I'm doing; and the last tier 3 autocannon perk lets you tank a lot of damage.

Yes, the 50% dmg reduction mod is very underated - it helps a lot on higher difficulties, as it allows to safely tank a lot of hits and give breathing room for the rest of the squad. Synergizes very well with extended mags.

I found fear to work better than damage reduction because its better to scare them away and take no damage than to take 50% reduced damage. Also the fear applies to all shots while the damage reduction is only active when you're at max rate of fire.

Mortar rounds only real downside is that it gives the aoe explosions friendly fire, which the thunder head normally doesn't have, only the direct impacts do friendly fire. For me, it's a fun alternative to the neurotoxin rounds.

I honestly think mortar auto cannon with 2 ROF mods is better at dealing with dreads than big bertha, You don't even need to hit the butt of the boss. You can just spam the rounds on their face and deal insane damage.

I enjoy mortars a lot. I noticed it works well in Industrial Sabotage while facing the Caretaker. Don't need to be facing directly at the eye. The splash damage will hit it. lol

For me I'm building big bertha as a hybrid build so I can do both of the things better and build is 33212. For seconday every things is okey but I choose magic bullet so I can do better aoe control because I'm already great at single target with big bertha

I like how the base autocannon chews through grunts but compared to the minigun and hurricane, I really feel like it needs to do more. The only autocannon build that feels good to me is big Bertha, I really wish the base autocannon had a bit more direct damage and armor breaking, or that big Bertha had a less harsh mag penalty 🥲 something like 70 rounds instead of 55 would be amazing Mortar rounds is also pretty amazing for damage, but I don't like how it limits your range and the incredibly slow ROF feels very out of place for gunner

LOL! Iam A gunner ... Have almoust all OC on gunner guns! But not on Autocannon... i love the fellin of the gun.. but think Minigun and Rocket Launcher is better(BUT I HAVE ALL OC and On Autocannon no).... i dont Have Big Bertha and i want soo bad this OC ... i watched like 6 videos about autocannon builds and big bertha today... you video came rigth on time❤!
