Amazing Birding at Lake Naivasha and Hells Gate National Park | Kenya 2021 | 4K-Video

Mighty african fish eagle catching fish out of the water, breeding colony of cormorant nesting on top of tree, pied and giant kingfisher scour the lake for fish. Together with our guide we went on an amazing boat safari on lake Naivasha and spotted many water birds along the shore and in the trees. We came accross many African fish eagles sitting on the branches and as soon as they spot an easy catch they take off and grab the fish out of the water. We found many water birds along the flooded shore and in the woods. Hippos and waterbucks can also be seen. An upcoming thunderstorm added some suspense to the end of our trip, but we managed to get back just in time before hell broke loose.
As you notice from the video, the entire shore is flooded due to a constantly rising water level of the lake since 2018. Heavy rainfall have contributed to the situation but may not be the final answer to the phenomena. This led to entire communities being forced to move to higher ground and a lot of infrastructure and buildings were lost to the rising water.
After lake Naivasha we continued to Hells Gate National Park for our last birding and wildlife safari of our trip to Kenya. Hells Gate National Park offers staggering rock formations all along the way including Fischer's Tower, a vulcanic pinnacle that is famous among climbers. Plentiful birdlife can be found throughout the park including the Agur buzzard, black kite, Rüppell's vulture nesting in the cliffs and the magnificent scarlet-chested sunbird.

WOW again! Bit sad though ... I was in a boat on Lake Naivasha some 16 years ago when the water was low and many people were doing the laundry and mamals had a zip of water. Lots of Bambu then too, it was heaven .... Thanks anyway for your absolutely fantastic video!!

I worked as a volunteer for the conservation of Lake Naivasha. The project was jointly run by the University of Nairobi and Leicester University. We operated out of Elsamere Wildlife Park reserve. Majic days and wonderful memories.

Hallo Christiane, vielen Dank für deinen tollen Kommentar, das freut mich sehr, dass Dir das Video gefallen hat. Wir hatten ein ganzes Boot für uns gemietet und waren damit auch viel länger unterwegs als sonst üblich. Wir hatten den gleichen Fahrer an zwei Tagen. Die erste Fahrt war im Pauschalpreis mit dabei und im üblichen Rahmen aber den Preis kennen wir nicht. Die zweite, wesentlich längere Fahrt haben wir zusätzlich vor Ort bezahlt für 180$ (inkl. Trinkgeld). Den Preis hat unserer Fahrer verhandelt und ich glaube, er hat den Preis etwas zu sehr gedrückt. Nachdem wir zu Hause die tollen Aufnahmen gesehen haben würde ich jetzt dem Bootsführer gerne noch etwas mehr in die Hand drücken, der hat sich mächtig ins Zeug gelegt. Aber ja, für wirklich gute Aufnahmen ist ein Boot für Euch alleine ein Muss. Viele Grüsse, Markus
