There was a time my family has to sells coconuts for almost a year and let me tell you now, it takes a few months to learn how to chopped it properly. You need a strong arm and a very well sharpened cleaver to do it safely with a satisfying appearance. So what they’re doing in this clip is considered an artisan work and frankly I think it worth the increase price

Its not just the coconut peeling skill here that's impressive. Its also the ability to spot and pick the coconut at the right age where it can still be cut like this. Too young and the meat will be too thin and fragile. Too old and the meat will be too tough and attached to the pit too much.

Making sure no bugs can build a home up there. Like a pet, id climb coconut tree clean it and not harm the buds. Sometimes just sleep in the coconut tree and take in the cool breeze and the sounds of its leaves as they brush on each other. Like music. Or i just stay up there for hours. And when they bear fruits(coconuts). There would be abundants of it and huge ones too. Soo good it tasted like it was carbonated. Coconuts on trees grow in big, fibrous protective casings called "husks." When fully ripe/dry, the husk dries and peels away to the small brown coconut you'll commonly see in stores. What they're cutting away in the video is all husk on a younger, less ripe coconut, because they're sweeter and better for drinking. Around 1:25 you can see a faint brown line around where he's cutting, that would be where the shell of the brown coconut starts if it were fully ripe!

@@ayoadeleye227 this is unripe coconut, not different species. The ones impossible to be scooped, the ones with strong shell are ripe coconuts. Ripe coconut meat is crunchy. Ripe coconut meat is also a hard enough to hurt people when thrown (not joking) More coconut facts: -The water inside coconut is called coconut water. Not coconut milk. -Although its effect is weak, coconut water is a natural laxative. While it is a good rehydration source and energy drink as it is filled with electrolytes, over-consumption will result in diarrhea. -Coconut milk is the milk-coloured liquid extracted from grated ripe coconut meat. It is greasy as it contains a lot of oil. -Coconut milk tastes really good to drink as is. It is also used in many tropical and sub-tropical cuisines, such as the famous Rendang from Indonesia/Malaysia, and some types of curry. (And many more!) -You can extract the oil from coconut milk by using certain processing method that's easy to find on KZbin. -Coconut oil smells really good. Oooooh if anybody's wondering what those cherry looking things are, lots of those grow in my country too In some parts here they call it Alatiris, or Aratilis, but I found out they're sometimes called Jamaican Cherries, you don't eat the skin (Though from watching the vid, he did eat them, which makes me wanna try that out now), you just pull the stem, then you can see a hole where the stem was, put your lips against the lil' fruit then you squeeze it, or suck it, or do both. it has looooots of very tiny edible seeds, it can taste really really sweet if it's really ripe, or bitter if it isn't ripe enough which is like, greenish still. in a wiki it said it tastes like cotton candy, which I can agree to some degree xD

It's really nice how they also avoid touching the white parts without gloves :)
@coachmcguirk6297
@coachmcguirk6297 Жыл бұрын
I try to avoid eating anywhere where they use gloves. Disgusting. I've worked in fast food, people don't change their gloves for a whole shift a lot of the time out of laziness. I've seen people clean the bathroom and make a sandwich with the same pair of gloves. Any nice restaurant with actual chefs will be washing their hands often, and properly. The places where the people making the food are called "cooks" generally have very low hygiene standards which is why they require gloves. You get what you pay for, and if you pay people minimum wage to make your food, they will put in minimum effort and have no knowledge of safety or hygiene, both things actual chefs have instilled in them from day one. Keeping yourself and your station clean is always no. 1 for a real chef. Cooks wear gloves. Chefs don't. If you really want to scare yourself, get a food handlers card. It's free, takes 4 mins online, and all the questions are things you can Google while you take the test. There is no standard when it comes to the people making your food whatsoever.

The vendor just slowed down so they could showcase step by step how to make it on camera. I think irl they're way faster. Near my house there is a stall that sells a snack similar to this one and it's real quick.

Very creative, impressive too. My only thing though... While cutting the coconut, I noticed that the actual meat of the coconut was on the same area that the outer part of the coconut previously was, the coconut water you poured into the other coconut was running on the outside of the coconut while filling up the other. Is it the same gloves used to hold the outer part of the coconut also used for holding the meat of the coconut that was being cut into small slices 🤔 people generally do not wash coconut so I'm really thinking here.... I've known and heard of persons getting sick from things like this. 🤔🤔🤔

i usually love these videos, but this one is poking at my impatience. i love fresh coconut water. you can find people selling them on almost every street corner in the Caribbean. the guy chops off the top. you drink the liquid and hand the coconut back to him. he chops it open so you can scoop and eat the soft coconut flesh inside. the whole thing takes a couple-few minutes total. either that, or they dump the liquid into a plastic cup, add the scooped out bits of coconut, and you can take it "to go". i definitely don't have the patience to stand around waiting for something that literally adds NOTING to the taste of the fresh coconut.

I agree, though the coconut being used as a cup also means its biodegradable...which that plastic cup is not. I'm not preaching because I'm *extremely* guilty here as well, but if we're ever going to get this global garbage issue under control, we're going to have to start making some concessions. Also, maybe the guy couldn't afford plastic cups 🤷🏾‍♀️. Who knows.
