how do you get them off that base? Will they break clean or will all need to be ground?

with crystalline glaze firing, the bottom support is usually broken off by first torching it to heat it up then it should come clean off because normally the support you see isn't attached permanently ( No slip use). Since there is that space opening between the vase foot and support the crystalline glaze should come clean off when torched at a very high degree.

Matt you are one brave guy, getting into crystalline pottery. Wow. Although I've never attempted crystalline myself, I do understand all the complexstacies of undertaking this kind of glazing techniques. I was excited watching the unloading of your kiln today and some of the amazing results, personally the cobalt crystals are my favourite ones. Amazing results. I was also amazed at the pots that were dipped in acid after the firing. What an incredible difference of "before and after". I never heard of this process SO I learned something new today, thank you. I've watched quite a lot of videos of this technique Matt, mostly from yourself, Matt Horne + Bill Powell; both amazing potters like you. I was wondering if you are using the best pedestal methods for the release of the pots after firing? Both Matt Horne + Bill Powell seem to use their same methods of pedestals, which to me [as a layman] look much better and easier than method you use Matt! Have you watched their crystalline videos at all? Can you tell me why, if there is a special reason why you use the pedestal method that YOU use? I now can fully understand why these types of pots to be so expensive. From what I gather, there is a great likelihood` to have high losses in producing crystalline pots. This was a video Matt and thanks for sharing your talents with us. I look forward to seeing the results of the next crystalline firing. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PS: The picture you posted on facebook of you all out on your bikes is a beautiful picture, the kind of picture that will hold the memory of that day forever in your hearts.

結晶釉施釉下處薄些就能減少粘底發生,保温時問愈長,花朶會大,底下可放断熱磚切片约2公分厚片,防止流釉。

WOW!! These are absolutely incredible!!! Is there a reason you didn’t fire the rest of the pots in the same load? Looks like there is a lot of room left in there.

Hey Matt, interesting load of chrystalline glazed pottery. Just curious how do you break away the tile underneath each vessel without damaging your piece ? I’ve done lots of pottery but never attempted Chrystalline glazing.

Crystaline glazes need to be held at a hot temperature for a long time, but when you do that the glaze drips more

Crystalline glazes are beautiful. Is it something you can do with a cone 6 electric kiln, or does it have to be cone 10/gas? And do I need a high tech controller?

NEVER too many crystals! The cobalt ones almost appear to have a texture in the crystals, is that just a play of light or is it true?
@mohawkpiper

this is in oxidation right? i dont expect an answer, but would you be willing the share the colorants in the light blue one at 10:40? (and other time marks as well, as you did several in that glaze) titanium? rutile? a smidge of cobalt carb? edit: i feel like it is reduction. that glaze in particular looks like a reduction glaze. the greens led me to believe oxidation, but the greens likely wont reduce at higher temps with enough colorant in them

Oh, those crystals are just breathtaking! The more crystals, the better! I think my favorite is the tan/light brown ones but the Galaxy glaze finished exquisitely! Will any of these be in your Etsy shop? Question: Are the crystalline glazes food safe? Thanks for posting! I missed you!

Found you via TangoTek’s YT VOD which included Tango and Zed receiving and opening your Christmas gift mugs and ornaments. Tango is forever receiving comments about his mug on his streams. It is a beautiful shape and, for a streamer, a useful size. I was most impressed by the delicacy of the snowflake ornaments! They almost appeared to be made of crystal, they were so fine! Just curious…do you have a “desk jockey” form of mug? By that I mean a sort of bell shape….twice as wide at bottom as the mouth at the top, and the mouth at top is standard mug (as opposed to cup) size…..the break from cylinder to slope starting approximately one inch from top. Difficult to do without a seam, so challenging. I haven’t found anyone who makes this shape. There used to be Thermos mugs in this shape, but “they’ve gone the way of the dodo.” 😆 The flat, flared base absolutely would NOT tip, as opposed to the later rolled edge base….that one would tip if given a hard (accidental) elbow 🫤. Yes, I speak from experience…lol! Anyway, just thought I’d ask. Computer and accounting desk jockeys everywhere would thank anyone who brings it back to help save keyboards and laptops, not to mention elderly in assisted living facilities. Very helpful; no idea why they stopped making it. I’ll be interested to see the result of the changed timing on the crystal glazed pots. I imagine something resembling small flowers speckled in the grass, or hanging from branches in a breeze. Some of these large crystals resemble pansies in shape….large flat faced flowers.
