At the risk of sounding like a left wing woke person why kill a fish that big? It’s been proven they have better genes to keep the eco system going. The Hauraki is a great example of them being depleted kina taking over etc. I love your north but see this happening there next.

Have to disagree on that one, it's been proven that they have more breeding capability but not necessarily any better genetics and even if the genetics were better it is more likely to have already passed them on as given its size it has likely been at breeding age for many years. I see multiple large snapper on most of the berleys I set so taking the odd one every now and then just leaves more food for the smaller snapper to grow at a faster rate. Either way it's taken to feed people and that it did! Cheers!!!
