Considering even the most arid-dwelling varanid lizard can swim well it is a little dramatic to show the Protomosasaurus to be so hesitant to flee into the ocean from predators. Varanids are already well adapted to feed on aquatic life by being able to use their forked tongue to smell prey underwater and a strong paddle-like tail.

So many inaccuracies. 1) Mosasaurus would only evolve live birth AFTER it became predominantly semi-aquatic. Not while it still is a lizard with legs. Until going out to shorelines would actually be somewhat impossible or difficult, they would just lay eggs in the sand like real sea turtles do. 2) It wouldn’t just be one individual who randomly decided to jump in the water once. This species would gradually move to shorelines and explore water, until their young would become more and more adapted to swimming via natural selection.
