Prehistoric Planet has the best depiction of the T-Rex in any dinosaur media. From being shown to be able to swim, to showing an…interesting mating display. And deciding to wait till nightfall to avoid the risk of getting injured by plant-eaters that have defensive body parts. And can we talk about the baby T-Rex? They're so tiny! That has to be one of the most beautiful depictions ever of T-rex. May not be the awesome Hollywood style like in Jurassic Park/World, but it gave us a great look at what the dinosaur would've looked like based on modern science. There are many and I mean many pieces Science is missing about Dinosaurs. T-Rex swimming shouldn't have taken this long honestly, like of course they can swim. Just because it have little arms, doesn't mean a thing. We know so little about this animal despite discovering a lot of it from its fossils.
@reuireuiop0
@reuireuiop0 11 ай бұрын
... But, if that animal had the intelligence etc to care for it's young like this episode theorizes, would it swim such a stretch of ocean of which it is aware that the most dangerous sea predator hunts in those waters ? I think not. This sort of intensive Parental care is a huge investment. You would not want to waste your young - or risk an injury yourself, disabling your own hunt, in such dangerous waters.

@reuireuiop0
@reuireuiop0 8 ай бұрын
@@privateer3333 the whole scene of course is cooked up by some science visualizers ( to not use term "fiction" ;) so it's purely theoretical anyways. But, long lived large predators _will_ be aware of their surroundings, otherwise, they wouldn't be able to catch all m enough prey to sustain. And they would be hurt by all the dumb unnecessary interactions with other dangerous species. Indeed humans are long-lived and do stupid things, but there won't be many to take their family thru an enemy/ predator infested terrain but for _extremely_ good reason. There might be prey on that island suitable for young Rex ( adults and young mostly have different diets, as not to compete with another. Often the elder young feed on yet another sort of prey. But to swim a predator filled lagoon in order to find food for "chicks' you might lose on the way; most human stoopid acts are on a lesser level.

This is without a doubt the best depiction of my favorite dinosaur. Absolutely gorgeous. Out of all depictions this is my favorite. The Jurassic Park/World Rex as much as I love it, I prefer this take. Did take some getting used to the covered teeth, but looking closer and getting a better understanding, it makes sense. Now I know anything we say about dinosaur behavior is mostly speculation but I really love the idea of T-Rex when hunting is more of an ambush hunter rather than full-on pursuing predator. Because obviously T-Rex wasn't a super fast animal, but it definitely did have speed for short durations. Also, I believe that when mating, they were monogamous considering the fact that many theropods have that connection to present-day birds. In fact, many species of birds of prey are monogamous. It would be beneficial if T-Rex had mated for life for both a stronger chance for a successful hunt and raising their young.
@guillaumelassus9307
@guillaumelassus9307 3 ай бұрын
Since T-rex most likely hunted in pairs or group, it can be hypothesized that theses pairs would either be couples or as depicted here, siblings. As for the groups, probably families (young isolating a prey and leading it to the adults). I think it is unlikely that 2 strangers would team-up since T-rexes were probably territorial (need a large, stable food supply to sustain their nutrition and secure chances for a mate). So just like wolf packs, multiple individual groups were probably mostly families.

Prehistoric Planet is amazing for giving us more realistic depictions of dinosaurs prehistoric reptiles, but I still have nitpicks with some of the animation. I wish the animators paid closer attention to the behavior of birds and reptiles especially with regards to eye movement and reactive gestures to their environment. Some of the animations still feel a little bit glamorized, like those anthropomorphic animals you'd see in a Disney movie. Not a knock against the animators since they've already done great work here, but I hope they keep at it so we'll get even more immersive and convincing depictions of these animals in the future.

The graphics for this considering it's just a TV show, are amazing. Jurassic Park is my favorite film of all time and so many people have been saying for years if they ever remake it they want to see it as a more true to the novel version but I disagree. What I would love to see is a miniseries. The first book can be like 6 hour long episodes and the second book can be another 6. It will give much more time to flesh out the characters and with the popularity of shows streaming these days and not having to worry about censorship for tv, they could really do something amazing. The biggest issue would be the cost of CGI and practical effects. I don't see it happening anytime in the near future but another 10 or 15 years, and I could definitely see it being a possibility. CGI is getting better and better and less expensive the more we improve. I am fully confident that someday we will see a more novel based version of Jurassic Park with a lot more horror and Gore and I really hope that the miniseries is the way they go with it. Giving each novel 6-8 hours is the way to do it.

My head canon is that she never had a reason to sneak around and ambush prey. Every prey animal she's ever eaten was just handed to her chained on a platform. This is proven further when Rexy hunts the Gallimimus, she bursts out of the trees without a single sound hinting at her approach, no one knew she was even there before she ambushed the Gallimimus.

kinda cool to think that not only could the tyrannosaurus smell the dead sea turtle from MILES away, it literally has the conscious to walk directly past a living one, knowing full well that it can just eat the dead one. Like it not only realizes that it doesn't have to disturb the living mother turtle but it also can save the energy and have a free relaxing meal after crossing a long swim instead. Such a smart creature.
