When the match was near to the end, both players gave the best of themselves, and this 26 shots rally is an evidence.

Djokovic is one of the few guys that I've seen not only go toe-to-toe with federer's forehand, but neutralize the angles and put federer on the defensive. amazing tennis.

These players inspired me to go out and play tennis for the first time....I have tons more respect for what they do out there now....the shots they pull off are just completely bonkers..

Thanks. But not only is Federer's game beautiful and graceful, put is powerful and athletic. At 30 he still has one of the wickedest, ie. fastest, punishing forehands in the men's game. The racket head speed he can generate shows how much of an athlete his is, also how quick he is, even now that he's slowed down a bit, how he can produce triumphant shots crouched down, off balance, knees bent, hit winners from between his legs, again show off his supreme ability

You cannot play at that level for as long as Roger has, and still have the desire and tools to win major championships without possessing a true fighter's spirit, and enviable athletic skills. I like Nadal's style of play, and now Novak's too, and I loved Johnny Mac's finesse, Connor's guile, Agassi's tenacity, Boom Boom Becker's big gutsy swinging, Pat Cash's serve and volley hustle, Sampras' deceptively agile game, etc. but Federer has completely changed my appreciation of men's tennis.

Couldnt have agreed anymore. Thanks sir for sharing the knowledge. Federer is just overall a genius. Thats the perfect way describe him and its necessary that some ppl like this dude over here "stefantennis" understand that great men like Federer are not born frequently, they are rare. Anyways, thanks again!

I agree there are key moments in every set (3-3 or 4-4) when he fights to the death especially in defense and striking with full eficiency every short ball. Sometimes he's like a tiger and some players like Bellucci (who bother Fed with their style) just get too nervous which is normal. If the point isn't so important we've seen him making consecutive errors of the return and not covering his forehand well. Imagine what would it be if he played every match like he did in IW semis vs Nadal.

Nadal, Fed, Djokovic are amazing players and have unique racords that no one is likely to break soon. Fed is maybe the GOAT but i really hate to hear "omg he is a poet, omg magician, shhh genius at work, so much grace elegance, puts everyone in their place, no one can do what peRFect does" . He does what everybody does but with more consistemcy. Of course he has magnificent shots but everybody can hit a tweener and some drop shots. I like Rafa most. He haD some positive energetic aura.

he plays in toronto every year. your comment makes so sense. How would playing great in a masters tournament next year help him be confident for the olympics another 2 years away? by that time he will be like 35 yr old lol, it would be surprising to see him even qualify

I think every tennis player has the capacity to underestimate an opponent they have beaten...it's not a Federer trait. What is a Federer trait is his deconstruction of his opponents' games to figure out how he could possibly beat them, and testing these theories in an energetic/athletic way, fighting for every point like Nadal. He just makes less noise, makes less abuse on his body doing so.

The case for Federer is very very different from normal players...He wins ALOT of matches, which means he played ALOT more matches than normal players. If you check out wiki...he played in more than 1000 matches now...even more than Sampras. Imagine the strain on his body.

@TheYu87 Yeh so true. Also, Nadal has a game like bull, he just runs around the court like crazy trying pick each ball. While on the other hand, Federer has a more effortless game, he doesnt have to run around like crazy and work hard. He's a clever player. Plus, his shots are soo beautiful. Very rare do we see such elegance in tennis.
@StefanTennis
@StefanTennis 12 жыл бұрын
But you have to agree that one of the few things Fed can't do well is attacking a slow serve with his backhand. If the serve is very hard he blocks it with a precise slice which is a great talent and feel but if he has to generate pace with his backhand from the return he'd rather rely on opponent error. We've seen him try some chip and charge for some months now but I don't think it works so well for him.

@aidniymevoli I totally agree, watching Fed during his prime looks much better than looking at Djokovic right now. Just the form itself looks significantly different, where Fed looks like he is annihilating the ball, as to Djokovic just swatting it

@rlagywns @rlagywns Yea, thats true. But, besides annihilating the ball, just "style" with which he plays is beautiful. How can someone play so effortlessly? People like Djokovic and Nadal are great players which is why they are in top 10 but they lack elegance & style that Federer has. And that is what makes him the greatest ever. I have watched him live in US open three times all against top players but man, ths guy just stands out! Its a fucking eye-treat to watch this guy!

Whatever he manages to achieve in his career, Djokovic will be remebered as the only player who could out-hit Federer and out-run Nadal. Of course not always, but relatively often. On the other hand, when Federer and Nadal play each other, they both stick to their strong points, so the end result depends on 1 - the surface, and 2 - what "mood" Federer is in (because Rafa's defence is always fantastic). If Djokovic manages to stay healthy in 2012, he is looking at least at another AO and USO.

@StefanTennis Well, ofcourse he has lost that same energy on court. But, thats understandable. He has grown up. He doesnt have young body like Nadal or Novak. But, whats more important is that his game still has that beauty and effortlessness like before. Sure ppl have different taste. But, you need to understand that if u dont find his game/play beautiful and gracefull, then YES u dont understand 'aesthetics'. I kno u'd disagree. I can understand cuz u just dont have it in you.

@CodeGreen47 Djokovic is #1 in the world right now, for sure, but Roger is approaching 31 (and is still the only guy who has beaten Novak in a Slam the past two years, and came closer than anyone else at the US Open), and Nadal has infinite miles on the tires because he's been in his "prime" since he was 18 years old. Djokovic is the beneficiary of the decline of Fedal. Yes, his game is steady, but it's not dynamic, impressive, or spectacular.

@aidniymevoli Ppl have different taste. Fed is great and i don't have nothing against him. His shots just don't have the same effect on me but that doesn't mean i don't undersatnd "aestheics". Personally i don't find grace in his shots at all. You don't have to sue me for liking Nadal. I like other players too and its not only the shots they produce. I like those players full of energy fighting for every point and never underestimating their opponents which sometimes Rog does.

That's bullshit. Do you even watch tennis when it's not a Grand Slam tournament? Hewitt got to the final of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships this year, beating the 2012 champion John Isner on the way. He only lost the final because the semis and the final were played on the same day. Mahut's semi-final match was over in an hour, but Hewitt's was over two hours long. If rain hadn't delayed the semi-finals until Sunday, Hewitt would have won the final easily.

Do you see how much strain Nadal puts on his body? He isn't going to last as long as Federer....Feds movement is very natural....you never really hear about injuries from him...I think the last time he didn't play was because of mono in 2008? That's the last I remember seeing him hurt......Nadal knees aren't invincible...I don't think some people really understand how demanding of a sport tennis really is..

@CodeGreen47 Well, u dont seem to understand wat I said. Obviously, Novak is growing in confidence against Fed but u need to understand Fed isnt in his prime. He is growing old or rather, is old. So u cant expect him to win against him as much. So, u prefer Novak because he is beating everyone? Sad! Thats my point. If u actually loved the sport, then u wont follow the trend and still, prefer watching Fed over Novak. You are led by the results not by the game/play of a player. Its sad but true!

@CodeGreen47 No doubt that Fed is one of the greatest if not the greatest. Well, as for y certain ppl prefer him. There is a simple reason-they arent rank1-worshipper and unaesthete like u. Just cuz Fed has grown older and slower on court doesnt make them love him any less. They dont "move on" with their favorite players. They dont follow the rankings! Favoristism isnt about ranks, my friend. One who loves Fed or any player for his 'art' wouldnt prefer anyone else, even if he's beating everyone.

Every one with good hand&eye coordination and reflexes can play a sport and even make it to the top but God doesnt bless everyone with beauty, elegance and grace in his movements. Federer is one of the gifted players. I dont expect 'unaesthetic' people like you to understand that. Btw,I like Novak, he's a great athelete! :)
